Wineries & Vineyards On Korcula
The majority of wineries on Korcula Island are family owned and have been passed down through the generations, some for as long as 300 years. Most of the vineyards are located in Lumbarda, Smokvica & Cara.

Smokvica There are a number of small producers in Smokvica. These include Toreta, which also houses an interesting museum and Winery Grosic, which can be visited as part of our Driven Wine Tasting Tour.

Cara There are 4 winemakers from Cara, most notably is Krajancic. Krajancic winery is located on the road to Zavalatica.
Blato The largest wine producer in Blato is called Blato 1902, which is also an olive oil producer. From their shop/tasting room you can buy their premium bottled wines, their house wine , as well as domestic olive oil.

Testaments organic vineyards are located in the Northern Dalmatia region near the medieval town of ibenik. The famous native grape grown in this region is Babi This blue-skinned wine grape variety is indigenous to Croatias Dalmatian coast.
On the palate, I got flavours of berries, chocolate, slight oak, tobacco, and chocolate flavours. This full-bodied wine is smooth on the finish.

This 100% Plavac Mali from Dinga is full-bodied, deep ruby red in colour with intense aromas of cherries, blackberries, and a slight smokey tobacco scent. It has beautiful flavours of dark berries, dark chocolate, and Mediterranean spices. It is a well-balanced wine with silky tannins and a long finish. I would recommend decanting this wine at least one hour prior to drinking it.

Around the small city of Lumbarda on the island Korula, a very peculiar grape variety grows. You know how in the movie the head of the family brags how the Greeks invented everything? Well, the Croats invented Grk!
Grk is an autochthonous Croatian grape variety. It grows exclusively on the sandy soils near Lumbarda. Many tried to cultivate it elsewhere but failed. Part of the reason might be that the strip of land on which it grows is very narrow, so the grapes get a lot of sunlight and reflection off the sea.
Although the name might indicate a Greek origin, recent genetic studies have not shown any connection with Greek varieties. Even all attempts to find an equivalent variety in Greece have failed. Moreover, Grk was also compared to the Italian Greco, but the match wasnt exact.
Rather, Grk is confirmed to be indigenous to Croatia and a close relative to Crljenak Katelanski .
Grk is often called the most feminine of all the grapes, but the reason for that is not its taste, but rather the fact that the variety has only female functional parts of the plant. Therefore, in order to reproduce successfully, it must be planted with other grape varieties.
On Korula, the variety it is most planted next to is the well-known Plavac Mali, the most planted red grape variety in Croatia. The reason behind this is that both of those varieties blossom at the same time, resulting in ripe fruit at the beginning of September.

Kutjevo Graevina de Gotho 2018 is made from the most planted indigenous Croatian grape variety Graevina, also known as Welschriesling. In Croatian, Graevina comes from the Graica, meaning green peas. The name refers to the appearance of the berries at a certain point in the ripening process.
This Kutjevo Graevina de Gotho 2018 has a beautiful golden colour with aromas of honey, pineapple, flowers, and mango. It is rich on the palate with flavours of pineapple, mango, and honey. This wine received a Platinum medal in the Decanter World Wine Awards 2020 and is rated a score of 97.

Istria And Kvarner Bay
Three different types of soil and the mild microclimate make the sub-region of Istria ideal for wine growing. The green peninsula is well-known among experts and wine enthusiasts for its indigenous grape varieties: Istrian Malvasia, Teran, and Istrian Muscat.
Istrian Malvasia
Istrian malvasia is a dry, golden-yellow wine with a light green hue and a citrus aroma. It is served cooled at around 50°F. It pairs well with vegetables, pasta with cheese or cream-based sauces , white fish, and seafood.
Teran
Teran is an aromatic, slightly sour, dark ruby-red wine with purple tones. It is served at room temperature, at around 67°F. It pairs well with red meat, especially indigenous Istrian bokarin , and truffles.
Istrian Muscat
Istrian Muscat is a semi-sweet, golden-yellow wine. It is usually served as an aperitif or a dessert wine, cooled at around 50°F.
lahtina
lahtina is a high-quality autochthonous dry wine from the island of Krk in the Kvarner Bay. It also grows on the islands of Cres and Pag and in Istria. The yield is high and the wine is bright yellow, fruity, high in sugar and acidity. It is quite low in alcohol, at 11%. It works best with lamb, especially if its cooked in a peka, a circular pan with a bell-like lid.
