Blood Orange Mimosa Recipe
One of our favorite mimosa variations is made with blood orange. Blood oranges are in season from December through April. They give the cocktail a vibrant reddish-pink color and have a sweeter flavor.
To make a blood orange mimosa, simply switch out the orange juice for freshly squeezed blood orange juice.
How To Choose Sparkling Wine For Mimosas
I like to use a dry sparkling wine, not sweet. Use the wine that you like the taste of. You dont need to break the bank, though. We spend $12 to $15 on the sparkling wine we add to our mimosas.
Your best bet is to look for Cava, which comes from Spain or an American sparkling wine thats around $15.
A dry Prosecco is a great option, too. Unless youve found something you absolutely love, dont go lower than $10 since that can lead to headache central.
For The Best Mimosa Use Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice
If you can swing it, use freshly squeezed orange juice. It seems over the top, but when you consider half the drink is juice, you want the best.
Freshly squeezed orange juice tastes fresher, lighter, a bit tart, and more delicate than anything you can find in the store. With that said, when were in a pinch, well use the Simply brand of orange juice.

In general, you can get 6 to 8 mimosas from one 750 mL bottle of champagne.
Most people will probably enjoy more than one mimosa, so keep that in mind when buying champagne for a party.
For a party of 10 people, three to five bottles should do the trick. For 20 people, youll need six to eight bottles. A good rule of thumb is to buy one bottle for every three people.

The Best Ratio For A Mimosa
Most champagne flutes hold 6 fluid ounces of liquid.
The perfect mimosa ratio is 1:1. Equal parts champagne to orange juice and liqueur is a great ratio to start with, but you can do less OJ in lieu of more champagne if you like.
However, if you do that, it will technically be called a Bucks Fizz, which has a ratio of two parts sparkling wine to one part orange juice.
If you are adding triple sec to your mimosa, which I HIGHLY recommend you do for a more complex, elegant flavor, you should replace 1 ounce of the orange juice with the triple sec.
This is the ideal recipe for a mimosa:
- 2 ounces orange juice
- 1 ounce orange liqueur
- 3 ounces champagne
If you are not using triple sec, you can use another ounce of OJ to keep the ratio 1:1.

Here are the easy step by step directions to create these festive cranberry orange mimosas:
Step 1: Chill all ingredients.
Tip: Champagne can take 2-3 hours in the refrigerator to fully chill.
Step 2: Fill 1/3 of your champagne flute with orange juice.
Step 3: Add 1/3 cranberry juice to your champagne glass.
Step 4: Fill the final 1/3 of your glass with champagne.
Step 5: Wet your cranberries and add 3-4 fresh cranberries onto a cocktail skewer. To coat them, roll the skewer in a small bowl of sugar.
Tip: It can be difficult to roll the skewer if the bowl isnt large enough. You could certainly use a small saucer instead.
Step 6: Top the champagne flute with the skewer of sugared cranberries. These taste delicious while drinking this cranberry orange mimosa!

The Best Juice To Champagne Mimosa Ratio
Mimosas should never taste overly sweet, so when deciding how many parts orange juice to sparkling wine aka champagne, use the ratio of 1/3 juice to 2/3 sparkling wine, or about 2 ounces of orange juice per drink.
You can add the juice either before the sparkling wine or after, but either way be careful of it flowing over, which in my experience means 1 out of 5 glasses likely will.

Heres a fun fact: How we serve a mimosa now is not how it was traditionally served almost a century ago. One of the first published recipes for the mimosa calls for drinking it out of a wine glass … with ice. Now we associate it with the champagne flute, sans ice.
I think we should take a note from this change of drinking vessel and serve it however youd like. If you want to stay within the wine glass category, stemless wine glasses are a more casual option. But go ahead with a traditional flute if it fits your occasion.

- Keep the bubbly cold! Mimosas are best served chilled, without ice, so youll want to use wine buckets or a beverage tub to keep the champagne cold!
- Presentation! Make sure you plan out what type juices you plan on offering and think about the number of pitchers or carafes for serving. Also, you will need to pull out your champagne flutes or grab some plastic champagne flutes online. Lastly, grab some small bowls for holding your cocktail garnishes!

Pour the chilled sparkling wine in first.
That way, you can tip the glass slightly and pour the champagne down the side to prevent the wine from bubbling over the top.

Add a Splash of Grand Marnier It gives it extra flavor and is our favorite way to drink a mimosa.
Use a Champagne Flute This glass is designed to preserve carbonation. They are perfect for celebrations and the only glass of sparkling wine and Champagne should be served in. These are the ones we used.
Make a Batch If youre serving many people, mix the mimosa up in a larger pitcher then pour it into each glass.
