Campo Viejo Cava Brut Reserva
When it comes to picking a sparkling wine for a mimosa, I always choose a cava over a prosecco . Im always open to trying a new cava but this one came recommended by a friend and I keep returning to itits dry, crisp, and fresh. Plus, very gentle on the wallet. Pair with the fresh, cold juice of clementines or blood oranges . Arati Menon, Senior Editor
Andre Brut Sparkling Wine
This easy-on-the-wallet champagne is one of the top five best-selling brands in the country, according to Statista. It has a light and mild to dry taste, plus has hints of green apples and lemon. This makes it a great option for mimosas or pairing with dessert. And honestly, you cant beat that $6 price!
Taittinger Comtes De Champagne 2007
- Grape: Chardonnay
The Taittinger family were wine merchants who moved to Paris in 1870. In 1932, they bought the Château de La Marquetterie from Forest-Fourneaux and began producing champagne. Today Taittinger has become one of the most prominent prestige champagne houses in the world.
The 2007 Comtes de Champagne has a unique legacy it received the highest score ever given to it by James Suckling , and yet it is affordable. So much so that some billionaires have deemed it too cheap to buy. Dont let that fool you, though it is deserving of its high acclaim and has a crisp, fresh taste that is perfect for making a classic mimosa.
- Alcohol by Volume : 12.5%
- Grape: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay
Named for its founder, Pol Roger opened in 1849 and is now one of the most beloved champagne houses in the world. Known for producing high-quality, sophisticated and crisp champagnes that stimulate and invigorate the palette.
Despite there being a tiny number of vintages released to the market in 2012, the Pol Roger 2012 is considered to be equal to, if not better than, the legendary 2008 vintage. A light, delicate champagne with a dry yet fruity taste, there are few champagnes as well suited to making a mimosa as this vintage.

What To Serve With Mimosas
My best tip to enjoying alcohol is to make sure youre eating a well rounded meal! These mimosas pair perfectly with a festive brunch menu. Heres what I would serve them with:
- Apple Cinnamon Baked Oatmeal Bubbly apple cider + an apple baked oatmeal = perfect match!
- Dairy-Free Spinach Quiche I love having an egg dish at gatherings and this dairy-free quiche is my new go-to. Its loaded with protein and so tasty.
- Fruit Salad with Mint Cant have brunch without a fruit salad!
- Fuji Apple Salad I always love serving a fresh green salad at brunch. This apple salad pairs well, but honestly any side salad works.

Ca Furlans Cuve Beatrice
There are three main criteria for sparkling wine when being used for mimosas: It should be affordable, marry well with fruit flavors, and taste good on its own . Ca Furlans Cuvée Beatrice checks all the boxes. Its refreshing, but has plenty of the ripe, clear, juicy pear flavor that glera, the grape used to make Prosecco, is known for. The fizz is foamy and delicate, but persistent enough that it wont go flat when mixed with fruit juice.

I’d go with a typical one, since you are mixing it with juice. A lot of restaurants will use cheaper ones in mimosas. You could always buy a selection and if people are self pouring , they can choose the nicer one.

I’m so glad you asked this question!! i’ve always wondered that too

LaMarca prosecco or Cupcake prosecco is really good, but honestly if its for a mimosa bar- no one will be able to tell.. so I’d go with the & dollar 6 bottles of Andre lol. Barefoot also makes decent & well priced champagne/sparkling wines that are easy to find- we’ve done mimosas with sparkling barefoot moscato and they were good!
Pro tip: If you add chambord to them they are absolutely amazing.

What Is The Best Value Champagne
Although there are many cost-effective champagnes currently available, you need to make sure that you are not purchasing a brand that is below the recommended price.
Otherwise, you could find yourself with a cheap formula that offers nothing in terms of taste and aroma. However, some notable best value champagnes include: Veuve Clicquot Demi-Sec, Graham Beck Bliss Demi Sec and Moet & Chandon Nectar Imperial Rose.
Ruinart Blanc De Blancs
The name “blanc de blancs” means white of whites . This somewhat poetic name has roots in the Champagne’s ingredients. Unlike other types of Champagne, blanc de blancs specifically and solely use white wine grapes. While this may seem like a minute difference, it makes for a unique style of Champagne. Blanc de blancs Champagnes are extremely refreshing while still being well-balanced.
So, one can expect an extremely crisp mimosa when using blanc de blancs. When making drinks, this genre of Champagne makes for a really flavorful Mimosa that cuts a bit deeper. The Ruinart Blanc de Blancs is a wonderful contender among the various choices and genres of Champagne.
The Champagne has all the refreshing qualities that define blanc de blancs Champagnes. Additional botanical and lemon flavors and a notable smoothness only work to further refine the Champagne. The Ruinart Blanc de Blancs is both light and incredibly rich, and it would make an ideal match for citrus juices, like an especially refreshing lemonade.

Most people would agree that mimosas are a must-have for any weekend brunch. As a sommelier, I recommend you stick with good quality but inexpensive sparkling wine for any champagne cocktail. Orange juice will mask your bubblys finer points, so its wise to save your high-end champagne for enjoying on its own.
For mimosas, choose prosecco, cremant, cava or entry-level Champagne to bring fizz and flavor to mimosas.

What Is Real French Champagne
French Champagne is pricey because sparkling wines can only be called champagne if they are grown and produced in the Champagne region of France. This, combined with the lengthy production process, makes champagne rather expensive, starting at around $40 per bottle in Australia.
Famous brands include Moet and Chandon, Tattinger, Pipers, Veuve, Dom Perignon.
Best Sweet Sparkling Wine: Freixenet Cordon Negro Sweet Cuve Cava
Courtesy of Drizly
Freixenet is one of the best-known names for Spanish cava. While the winerys extra dry gets a lot of attention, their Cordon Negro Sweet Cuvée Cava is equally impressive. Made with the same méthode traditionnelle as Champagne, the cava has a ton of personality and an irresistible creaminess anyone will fall for.
Produced in the Catalonia region of Spain, Freixenets wines are designed specifically for modern tastes and cuisine. Sweet Cuvée Cava is a newer addition to the portfolio and its an expression that is sure to catch on as more people give it a try. The cava is a blend of Macabeo, Xarel-lo, and Parellada grapes that come together with a tantalizing peaches and cream taste. Its not too sweet and very approachable, and the elegant black bottle hides its thrifty side, so its perfectly shareable, too.
Region: Catalonia, Spain | ABV: 7% | Tasting Notes: Peach, cream, grapefruit
For a true Champagne, we recommend the Mailly Brut Reserve Grand Cru Champagne because it’s big, bold, and fruity. La Vostra Prosecco, on the other hand, is a dry and acidic prosecco with lovely fizz.

Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut Champagne
The Veuve, or widow, Clicquot has done many remarkable things for the Champagne industry, so much so that journalists at Smithsonian Magazine even claim that she invented the modern Champagne game. It’s nothing short of amazing, and all brunch-goers truly can raise a glass to her still! Among her best contributions is the iconic Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut Champagne, otherwise referred to as Yellow Label.
The Wine Library describes Yellow Label as being a total knock-out. When popping open a bottle of it, bon vivants can expect the highest quality. The Champagne is made from a mix of Pinot grapes and Chardonnay grapes which creates a truly bright, yet bold, Champagne that combines the best of both worlds. Because Yellow Label is a Brut Champagne, it is exceptionally dry and crisp.
Yellow Label, when combined with orange juice, renders a truly electrifying and striking mimosa. The Champagne’s complex fruity and candy notes paradoxically add depth to what would otherwise be a uniformly sickly sweet drink.
All in all, the Yellow Label is one of the best choices on the market, available at what could be considered a midrange price. One bottle of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut costs around $48 as of December 2022.
Is Brut Or Extra Dry Champagne Better
As a result, Brut champagne is sweeter than Extra Dry champagne, a very important distinction. Despite what many people assume, Extra Dry champagne, as opposed to Brut, is sweeter. The French word brut translates to dry or raw.. The wine is so good that some people even choose Brut instead of the wine they had been drinking previously.

Effervescent and crisp, Champagne pairs wonderfully with the tangy sweet flavors of fruit juice. And when it comes to cocktails to try if you like drinking Champagne, the classic mimosa has been a delicious pop of fizz on brunch tables, wedding receptions, and formal celebrations since its inception in the 1920s at The Ritz Hotel in Paris .
Champagne comes in a variety of types and quality levels, and each house has its signature style and range. While the ways to store Champagne can affect your wine, the true quality of bottles spans three tiers: it starts with simple, non-vintage wines produced with grapes grown over several years to achieve the house style. The next quality level is found in vintage Champagne produced from grapes grown in one calendar year. The top echelon of Champagnes is called prestige or tête de cuvée, which is crafted from the finest grapes produced in only the best years.
In addition to the three-tier quality levels, other factors determine a Champagnes style. Its produced from three grapes two black grapes and one white grape called chardonnay. A Champagne house will blend the grape varieties to achieve its unique individual styles. Vineyard location also affects grape quality, and the best Champagne comes from premier cru and elite grand cru vineyards.

How Do You Estimate How Many Bottles Of Champagne You’ll Need For Mimosas For A Party
The easiest way to determine how many drinks to make for a crowd is to figure out how many people will be drinking and the average number of drinks each guest will have. Then, based on your mimosa recipe, youll be able to estimate the amount of sparkling wine and orange juice youll need, but be sure to have a few extra bottles on hand in case any of your guests end up thirstier than anticipated.
The Best Champagne For Your Mimosas Might Not Even Be Champagne
Theres more to mimosas than just the ingredients listed above. If the standard recipe doesnt sing to you, or if youd just like to try something different, here are 6 strange ideas that just might catch your fancy.
Sparkling Hard Cider
The rich, fruity, apple flavor and alcoholic punch of a nice hard cider just might be the perfect complement to your orange juice.
It will mellow out the citric tang that some people like least about mimosas. It is also likely to be more affordable than the average champagne, but not always.
A good seltzer water can be very refreshing.
Some people even argue that it has medical benefits. Its bound to make your mimosa less sweet, which might be what youre aiming for. It will also make it more refreshing in the more general sense.
Sake is an alternative to western beers that is well known for being more sparkly.
Its so sparkly, in fact, that it makes a fine alternative to champagne. It will add substance to your mimosa and is a good choice if you like a fuller beverage.
Miller High Life
This exceedingly popular beer is popular because its light and easy to drink.
That makes it a nice alternative to champagne. It will have a similar effect on the cocktail as sparkling sake, but with a more mellow result.
Quite similar to Miller High Life, Colt 45 is heavier, more alcoholic, and sweeter.
It will make the thickest addition to your mimosa of the last three options, and its cheap.
