Use Paper To Wrap Your Wine Glasses

How To Properly Pack Wine Glasses

Crystal wine glasses need to be wrapped in paper, but not newspaper. When you wrap them in newspaper the ink from the paper will transfer to the glass and you will have to scrub them to get them clean. They may survive the move, but end up broken from all the scrubbing.

Instead of using newspaper, choose white tissue paper for wrapping your wine glasses. You want to use a separate sheet for each glass. Start the glass at an angle on one of the corners and roll it up. Then, you can simply fold the ends and you have a well wrapped wine glass ready to be packed.

No Cell Box Solutions For Wine

What if you cant find a cell box or you have literally waited until the day before to start packing, and now no stores are open? Well, rest-assured that you do have options! First, wrap the glasses individually in brown paper lunch bags. This will give you plenty of crumply material to take up space in the box.

Now, to create the cells so the glasses dont rattle, you are just going to use Styrofoam plates. Dont forget cushioning in the bottom of the box, too. This will offer a little extra protection. Place a hoodie, a couple tees, or a soft sweater in the bottom of the box. Of course, you can always leave the packing to the professionals.

Label Your Wine Boxes

Wondering how to pack crystal wine glasses ? Make sure fragile labels are on at least two sides and the top of the boxes containing glasses and/or bottles. If there is only one box and you have room in your car, you may want to just move the box with you. Then you know exactly where it is, and you can place it somewhere safe in the new home where nothing will get stacked on top of it.

You can now start packing all the delicate items.

Stack plates in an upright position and not one on top of the other plates. Should the box experience any kind of force with other boxes, this process allows the edge of the plates to handle a lot more pressure than if they were laid flat.

Make sure to use the cell dividers when packing each glass.

Once the glassware is safely laid out inside the box, use the rest of the crumpled paper to fill any empty space in the box.

When packing mixed items, start by placing the heavy/sturdy items at the bottom of the carton and the extra delicate/light items on top.

Place the crumpled paper on top of the glassware as the final layer. Your gauge to know if youve done it right will be when the box lid is closed, the top flaps of the box should be difficult to push down. This way, should the boxes be mishandled, any items stacked on top wont break your items.

Make Sure To Write Fragile All Over The Box

How to Pack Glasses When Moving

It wont do to mark your box as fragile on only one side of the container. Shipping service agents and movers rarely bat an eye to anything that isnt immediately visible to the naked eye. And if something does happen, blaming them will only take you so far, so it is best to be safe and write the word in big, bold letters all over the box. This will ensure that heavier boxes arent piled on top of them for long periods of time, potentially ruining all the previous hard work.

When it comes to packing materials, it really depends on the situation. When traveling, most of the time youre limited on the materials that you can choose, so you have to be creative about what you choose. If the material is soft and flexible, you should be good to go.

Bubble wrap. From my own experience, this is the best material for packaging wine, beer, champagne, and other alcoholic beverages. We like to use it as an extra precaution because we dont want the drink to spill all over my baggage. When we know Ill be returning with a few bottles of wine, we usually bring a sheet of bubble wrap. If you forget to bring some with you, its readily available to find in bookstores, DIY stores, stores like Home Depot.

Clothes. Theyre the next best thing after bubble wrap and dont result in extra space and weight. Usually, synthetics work better as theyre elastic and soft by nature.

Containers and boxes. For really fragile items, like wine glasses, dishes, and plates, a cardboard or wooden box works excellent. Usually, theyre available in bookstores, DIY stores, and local post offices.

Ziploc bags. If youre packing liquids, a Ziploc bag is a must to protect against any spillages.

Paper. This works best for packing wine glasses, mugs, dishes, other glassware, and ceramics.

Also be mindful of the stem, which is very delicate and a common cause of wine glass breakage. Then, take the wine glass and place it horizontally on a piece of paper and wrap the glass tightly like a roll. If you are one of the lucky folks on the move this month, you are probably up to your knees in boxes and packing paper. Youre trying to figure out how to pack everything so it ends up in one piece in your new home. Well, let us help you with one of the most difficult items to pack: wine glasses. Because of their odd shape they are often packed incorrectly and their delicate glass and long stems get broken in the moving process.

We have seen too many new homeowners sipping out of plastic cups after a move. Let the plastic frat house red cups be gone! Lets put some elegance into that new home from the start. Heres a simple step-by-step guide on how to properly pack wine glasses to keep them in one piece and easily accessible after move day

  • Select the Proper Box: One of the key factors to keeping your wine glasses from breaking or getting crushed is using the proper box. You need a box that is big enough and secure enough for your glasses. We recommend a dishpack box because its 5.2 cubic feet high and has double thick walls for extra protection.
  • Gather the Right Materials: Once you have the proper box, gather the packing materials to wrap and protect the glasses. Here is what you will need:
  • Packing Paper
  • Cardboard Inserts
  • Protect Your Box First

The old magi and other people who have relocated frequently would tell you that you need to make a protective layer at the bottom and later top of your box to prevent shifting. Its best to start with taking about 4 inches of rolled-up packing paper and spread it for this purpose. You can also reinforce the containers with tape if you feel some ominous foreboding.
