Pink Grapefruit Vieux Mot

Le Fizz: GREY GOOSE Vodka Cocktail

Tart grapefruit juice, lemon, gin and St. Germain elderflower liqueur come together to make one of the most refreshing summer cocktails around. The pink grapefruit Vieux Mot is the perfect pink drink for your next Sunday brunch or pool party.

Its color also makes it perfect for Bachelorette parties or baby showers. This is a great option for those who complain fruity cocktails are “too” sweet.

Garnish with a bit of grapefruit peel.

No one ever said you couldn’t put beer in your cocktails, and the Elvis cocktail does it perfectly. As one of the most refreshing drinks around, the Elvis cocktail takes hoppy and citrusy to the next level.

Tips For A Better Cocktail

Here are my tips for making the best version of this elderflower champagne cocktail:

Choose a floral gin. I like Hendricks for its floral and botanical notes. I would stay away from flavors of pine and juniper that might not pair as well with the delicate floral taste of St. Germain.

Choose a bottle of dry champagne. St. Germain is a sweet liqueur, so you dont want to add more sweetness to this cocktail. Stick with a bottle that says brut on the label for the ultimate flavor magic.

Use a pretty garnish. I used a lemon twist, but you can use a cocktail pick or lemon wedge if you like.

Gin And St Germain: Which Gin To Use

St Germain Champagne Cocktail A Couple Cooks

If you know anyone who has traditionally shied away from gin , this Elderflower French 75 is the perfect cocktail to show them that gin really isnt scary at all.

As I discussed in my gin guide, gin is flavored with juniper and other botanicals, so it pairs extremely well with other botanical liqueurs.

In this elderflower cocktail, the St. Germain brings out the floral notes of the gin. I recommend using a gin with fewer juniper notes and more floral or herbaceous notes.

I personally reach for Hendricks when Im making a gin-elderflower cocktail, as its flavors of rose and cucumber pair quite well with St. Germain.

And if you still cant get into gin? Feel free to use vodka instead in this Elderflower French 75.

History Of The St Germain Cocktail

Liquor pioneer Rob Cooper created his own exclusive brand of Elderflower Liqueur in 2007. Its made from fresh elderflowers handpicked every year in late spring. Theres only a two or three-week window, so speed is of the essence when it comes to making this delicate botanical liqueur.

Over 1,000 fresh elderflower blossoms go into one bottle! While many people tend to associate Elder trees with the English countryside, the elderflowers in this liqueur actually come from France.

When the elderflower liqueur was launched, Simon Difford created the delicious cocktail, also known as the Elderflower Spritz. The contemporary recipe calls for sparkling wine or Champagne, but the original recipe created by Difford called for Sauvignon Blanc.

Either choice works well, as the delicate elderflowers give the effervescent wine a lightly sweet and floral taste. This liqueur is also a beautiful golden yellow color, which is naturally derived from the elderflower pollen.

~ St. Germain is a light, floral, fragrant liqueur made from elderflowers. You can find it wherever you find specialty alcohol, it costs about $35.~ Champagne is the ingredient in the original recipe, but any dry white sparkling wine works. Prosecco, a somewhat “lighter” Italian sparkling wine, makes this cocktail even more refreshing ~ most produce from local LA farmers’ markets, of particular note, Santa Monica on Wednesday~ the mint is from my kitchen herb garden

St Germain And Champagne: Which Champagne To Use

When Im combining St. Germain and champagne, I like to reach for a dryer, more brut champagne.

St. Germain is slightly sweet, so the sweetness of the elderflower balances nicely with the dry champagne and also brings out any floral notes in it as well.

If you dont love champagne , feel free to substitute your favorite sparkling wine, such as prosecco or cava, instead.

Get more info on each of these options in my champagne 101 guide, which explains how to choose the right bottle. I recommend choosing one in the $10-20 range.

Dry champagne, which will say brut on the label, is a good pick to pair with the sweetness of the elderflower.

This NYE cocktail is fantastic and you definitely need to make a round of them for your New Years party!

Start off by combining the St. Germain and lemon juice in a champagne flute. Then, add the club soda. Also, keep in mind that if you want your drink to be even crisper and colder, you can chill the champagne flutes prior to pouring!

Next, pour the champagne into the flute. Pour just a little bit at a time, otherwise youll end up with a bubbly mess on your countertop.

For an unforgettable garnish that elevates this cocktail even more, consider toasting your rosemary sprig. Simply torch some of the rosemary ends until aromatic using a kitchen torch. Drop the toasted rosemary sprig into the flute with the cocktail, and enjoy!

Caberet Cocktail With St Germain Liqueur And Blackberries

Blackberries are fresh, juicy, and wonderfully sweet.

Theyre not as sweet as blueberries, but theyre also not as sour as raspberries, making them a great middle ground.

Since they have earthy notes, theyll only get better when you add the florals of elderflower. Plus, theyll have the most amazingly intense color.

Why Should I Torch Rosemary As A Garnish

This is an amazingly aromatic trick I learned from one of the seasoned bartenders I used to work with. There are many cocktails out there that go well with rosemary flavors and benefit from the bold scent. When you lightly torch rosemary, it releases a lot of aroma that fills the room and stays around the cocktail glass. While taking a sip, you will breathe in the aroma, and it will enhance the overall flavor of the cocktail!

What Does St Germain Elderflower Liqueur Taste Like

St. Germain liqueur is both fruity and floral with a pleasant sweetness. The main flavor is a green, floral note from elderflower blossoms. The liqueur is rounded out with notes of stone fruit , citrus and tropical fruit . I also notice a little bit of Asian pear.

St. Germain is a very pleasant and approachable liqueur. You can sip on it in a glass with ice or enjoy it in a St. Germain cocktail .

What Is A French 75

A French 75 is a classic cocktail thats made a comeback in recent years.

Gin, champagne, lemon juice and sometimes simple syrup come together in a bubbly, fragrant drink.

The French 75 is extremely sippable and a great introduction to gin for anyone who has previously sworn it off.

But the Elderflower French 75 takes this classic cocktail to a new level with the addition of St. Germain elderflower liqueur.

The blushing pink color of this cocktail should be enough to encourage you to make this recipe. How adorable does that look?

If you do give this a try, youll find its light, refreshing, tart, sweet, and floral with just a few bubbles to boot.

Rosé vodka was new to me, and if you cant find it, just add extra rosé to the mix. Although, I would go for something slightly sweeter in that case.

Traditional margaritas include Cointreau or triple sec along with lime juice for a very citrusy flavor.

The great thing about St. Germain is that its wonderfully fruity.

So even though its not specifically orange-flavored, all those peach and lychee notes make this one of the best margs youll ever drink.

However, since St. Germain is quite pricy, I dont recommend making this into a frozen margarita.

That would water down the taste, which would be a real shame.

Boulard Calvados is one of the worlds most well-known and well-regarded apple brandies.

Its double-distilled and perfectly aged to create something truly delicious.

So, with such a unique spirit, you dont want to drown it out with lots of mixers, right?

This cocktail complements the apple flavor with elderflower and adds just a hint of citrus to balance everything out.

The tonic water makes this lighter and easier to drink.

This might be the most famous St. Germain cocktail out there. In fact, I wouldnt be surprised if this was the first drink you had with elderflower liqueur.

The Forbidden Flower Sour

I know plenty of people who hate bourbon, yet they love this flower sour mix.

Bourbon adds a deeply flavorful warmth in cocktails, and its not as overpowering when mixed with citrus.

Without St. Germain, this would be super yummy. That intense pomegranate taste is delightful, after all.

But with the elderflower, its lighter and a touch sweeter, too.

How To Make A St Germain Cocktail

It just takes a few steps to make this cocktail recipe! Youll want to use a champagne flute and then pour in the following:

  • Champagne or prosecco

Youll want to add ice as well to chill the drink if your bottle of St. Germain is room temperature. If youd rather not add ice to the whole beverage, you can add the liqueur to a cocktail shaker with ice to chill first.

I like adding a raspberry to add a little color to the drink, but you could add just about any fruit or garnish to match your events atmosphere and details!
