What Are California Reds Famed For

Try this Apothic Red Wine, good value and taste – Atlas Daily 574

First of all, this state is so renowned for its red blends that they deserve a big mention of their own. A distinct style of red wine in California, these blends are often inspired by the blends from the appellations of Bordeaux and the mixes of the Rhône. The best California red bends follow these French styles but with greater depths and intensity owing to this states sunshine.

Napa Valley especially has ideal conditions for Bordeaux blend styles. The days are warm, and the nights are cool allowing the perfect ripening of grapes for this kind of blend. While more fruit-forward, richer, and bolder than the French styles that inspire the Californian take, these wines are highly regarded and respected.

The other popular California blend style encompasses a combination of Grenache and Syrah from the Rhône. As with the Bordeaux blends, this style tends to be fuller and more concentrated than the wines of the southern France region. Zinfandel is also a key player in big, boisterous California red blends.

The typical flavor profile of California red blends embraces ripe blackberry, vanilla, black currant, licorice, and chocolate.

Apothic Red Wine Review

A blend of four different grapes makes Apothic Red wine an interesting wine to review and drink.

Apothic Red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Zinfandel.

For this tasting I re-enlisted help from a previous tasting assistant, Miss Jonelle, who did a great job providing her analysis for a previous review.

She did a great job on the Apothic Red as well and the review below covers both our thoughts on this wine.

For comparison purposes, check out my reviews of Apothic Inferno, Apothic Crush, Apothic Dark and Apothic White from the same winemaker.

Why Is Apothic Red So Good

Its a way to soften harsher and more intense grapes or to bring to life grapes that are too subtle for words. According to the inscription on the bottle, Apothic Red is a masterful blend of the three grapes and creates a layered flavor profile of dark red fruits with hints of mocha and vanilla.4 days ago.

Which Is Sweeter Apothic Red Or Apothic Crush

If youre loyal to the classic Apothic Red though, you may only want to venture as far as the Apothic Crush or Apothic Dark. The crush is a slightly sweeter take on the original with notes of caramel and chocolate, while the Dark variation incorporates deep dark fruits like blackberry with hints of coffee.

This wine is a blend of three different varietals. They include Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio.

The winemaker is Debbie Juergenson. She specifically looks for a unique blend of grapes to create intense aromas and bold flavors.

As Many Varietals As There Are To Fit Your Palate

There are as many varietals of red wine as there are red grapes planted in all corners of the globe. The main types you will likely encounter include: Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Zinfandel, and Merlot, to name just a few. There are red blends, which are a combination of many different grapes, and there are single varietals, which are made with one type of grape. Apothic changes the game with their masterful creation of both types of red wine pleasing as many different palates as there are red wine varieties.

Is There A Lot Of Sugar In Red Wine

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, a five-ounce glass of red table wine typically contains about 0.9 grams of total sugar, while a glass of chardonnay contains about 1.4 grams. A sweet dessert wine, typically served in a smaller two- to three-ounce glass, contains as much as 7 grams of sugar.

Appearance: A Dark And Cherry Color

    Vino Value: Apothic Red

Wine isnt all about the taste: you also have to appreciate the odor and the appearance of wine.

A wine with a great impression typically seems more delicious and is likely to be easier to appreciate. Thankfully, this Red shouldnt let you down here.

Most of Apothic wines have an appealing dark and cherry-red color that looks rich and feels right for a red.

You dont get that transparency you may get with other red wines, even the type blended into this Red. I love this color density and think its one of the best things about this wine.

    Apothic Red Wine: A Review

Apothic Wine produces surprisingly tasty, low-cost wines that fit the budget market almost perfectly. In addition, they create a broad range of different wine options, each of which is fascinating and filled with many potential options.

I will review the general overall taste, texture, and much more of Apothic Red Winemakers Red from California, a blended wine that combines Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Zinfandel flavors!

    Apothic White Wine Tasting

In the glass, this wine is light straw in color. It also has a subtle copper shimmer to it. It didnt appear very leggy.

The wines aroma was noticeable from afar. Its complex and includes notes of sweet orange and citrus. There was also a muted hint of clove or some other dark spice in the background.

The flavors in Apothic White included some sweet citrus upon first sip. But, shortly after that, the sweet flavors dissipated and the more subtle characteristics of the Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio came through. There was also a tiny hint of vanilla in there.

The wine had a silky mouthfeel and a long finish.

Overall, I thought this was a great wine. Like the other Apothic wines, the taste of this wine is unique. The blend of the three varietals was very interesting. You can pick out each grape, but when you step back you can sense how each one compliments the other.

If you like a silky white wine with a bit of front end sweetness, give this wine a try. Apothic White price $9.99.

Sugar Content: Pretty Low To Non

If you want a dry wine, then Aphotic Wines has got you covered!

They typically produce relatively dry wines with higher alcohol contents. For example, a typical Aphotic Wine has almost 16% alcohol by volume, which is pretty high for a glass of red wine.

However, it also means that the wine is not particularly sweet, which may be off-putting to those who want a sweeter red wine.

But if you like dry wine , you should like Aphotic Wines. Just dont expect the kind of dessert wine you may get with many reds.

Theres probably less than one gram of sugar per bottle with this wine, which is pretty intense. However, you can balance this dryness with a bit of cheese and bread.

Apothic Wines Or What The Pharmacy Has To Do With Wine

    The Mysterious Apothic Red

Apothic Wines is a Californian wine brand under whose name characterful red wine cuvées are vinified. The name Apothic comes from the Latin apotheca , which simply means store. The word apothecary also has its origin here, as a store for medicine. And just as medicine can be stored, so can wine, which is sometimes said to have health-promoting properties.

    Odor: Subtle And Appealing

While Aphotic Wines does create some surprising and unique wines, one thing that may surprise you is the reasonably low-key aroma.

Its not that this Red is bland or has no smell. Its just that it is surprisingly subtle, with a blend of different scents that you may enjoy.

A quick sniff of this Red is likely to include a bit of black cherry and raspberry, though these scents may be quite low-key when compared to other wine options of this type.

However, you may also notice some maraschino cherry aromas combined with a butterscotch undertone. These smells perfectly compliment the tastes, in my opinion, though I personally would like them to be a bit more pronounced.

Is Apothic red wine sweet or dry?

Its sweet. It has 16.4 grams per litre of residual sugar. It certainly isnt the first red wine to be sweetened up like this: over the last decade, residual sugar levels have been creeping up, and producers have found that regular punters quite like reds that are marketed as dry, but which taste a little sweet.

AMAZING WINE UNDER $12: Apothic Red Wine Review

Making a Red Blend is a labor-intensive project. Each grape varietal is individually crushed and fermented. When the juice has been extracted, the wine producer creates the blend through blending trials. There is a lot of tasting and trial and error before the blend is considered complete. At times, white wine grape juice is added to provide further tones and balance.
