Long Island has really come into its own in recent years for light, easy-drinking summer winesthe perfect style for large-format boxes. Lieb Cellars Bridge Lane Rosé, a blend of Cab Franc, Merlot, Malbec, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc, remains a mainstay in my fridge during warmer months. The 2017 Bridge Lane Sauvignon Blanc wine in a can begins with pleasing aromas of citrus, grapefruit, lemongrass and a bit of banana. Despite what you might expect from the can format, this is a lighter-bodied, more sophisticated Sauvignon Blanc that is delightful to drink. It features a great mouthfeel with a lively texture and good acidity and similar flavors to the nose. It ends dry with a lip-smacking finish of long-lasting tart fruit.

Each week, well be spotlighting a different North Fork winery, showcasing its history and how you can support the operation at this time. Lieb Cellars is open everyday from noon to 5 p.m. for call-ahead curbside pickup. Guests are able to get the full line of Lieb Cellars, and its second label Bridge Lane Wines, from the Lieb Cellars tasting room on Oregon Road in Cutchogue. The Bridge Lane Wine tasting room is closed. All their wines can also be shipped to 14 states through their website.

One keg contains 19.5 liters of boozy goodness, which translates to 26 bottles, if you’d like more of a visual picture of just how much wine is shoved in these things.
Lieb Cellars Launches Wine In Can Under Bridge Lane Label
CUTCHOGUE, NY July 25, 2017 Lieb Cellars, a leading NY winery located on the North Fork of Long Island, announced today the introduction of canned wine under their Bridge Lane label. Known for breaking tradition and embracing alternative wine packaging, putting wine in cans was a natural next step for the innovative wine company which was the first NY winery to launch 3L premium box wine and 20L disposable keg wine in 2014.
Our Lieb Cellars reserve line is our anchor and will always be about crafting the best possible, elegant, age-worthy wines from our estate vineyards, says Lieb Cellars General Manager, Ami Opisso. Our second label, Bridge Lane, is a about making fresh, fruit-forward wines and saying how can we have some fun and offer value? As young, casual consumers, what and how do we want to drink wine?
Last year Liebs team started thinking about canned wine. We live near the beach and bunch of us have or know people who have boats. We were excited about the idea of throwing some Bridge Lane cans in a cooler next to Greenport Harbor Summer Ales and not having to worry about glass bottles or even cups states Opisso.
In 2014 Lieb Cellars sold 900 3L boxes in NY only. This year Lieb is expected to sell 11,000 across 10 states in the US.
Their canned wine will retail in their tasting room for $9.00 for 375ML and will sell as singles or 4-packs.

Two American students traveling in South Africa hit upon Lubanzi, a line of bottle- and-canned wines with a strong ethical component: In addition to being fair trade, carbon neutral, and a B-corp, the company sends 50 percent of its profits back for the healthcare and education of vineyard workers. Whats in the cans is the same luminous, vibrant wine thats in the bottles, including some less-usual offerings like a Chenin Blanc that tastes of clean minerality, pear, white peach and lemon peel, and a Rhone blend with notes of blueberry, plum and black pepper.

Two female Stanford Business School grads pulled in a third alum, cult winemaker Chris Christensen, to create this line of personality-driven cans: Each one has a different industry-insider maker, whose names are on the labels. Theres a compelling line-up of red wines, but we jump at the opportunity to get the canned version of Christensen’s highly regarded sparkling Sauvignon Blancits what hard lemonade should really taste like. Maker also prioritizes customer connection with a can club, virtual gatherings and one-on-one community building via SMS.
