What Is A Champagne Bellini

Holiday Cooking & Baking Recipes: New Year’s Eve Champagne Punch Recipe

It was then that I realized that a champagne bellini is pretty much just champagne and fruit nectar. Sometimes people add other liqueurs, like schnapps. But really, a bellini is fruit + champagne. And since they dont have to be peach, then you can make them any flavor.

I normally see the punch version of this cocktail at New Years Eve parties and baby showers, or sometimes bridal showers. Basically its a container of sherbet or sorbet floated in a punch bowl with champagne and sometimes lemon-lime soda.

When I decided to make these Raspberry flavor, I added sorbet to the champagne flute, which is how you make champagne punch. Hence the name: Champagne Punch Bellini!

What Makes This Skinny

A champagne punch recipe can often include multiple types of alcohol like orange liqueur , simple syrup or sugary soda like ginger ale. Thought delicious these pack on loads of calories too.

Our champagne cocktail is slimmed down from most holiday punch recipes using only sparkling wine and some cranberry juice for the calorie ingredients.

Champagne Vs Prosecco: Which Is Best

When it comes to Champagne vs Prosecco, we always opt for Prosecco. Why? A good Prosecco is cheaper than a good Champagne. The modern Prosecco-making method is easier than champagne, making it cheaper to achieve just as good of a flavor.

To us, its best to grab Prosecco at $15 per pop for this Champagne punch, rather than opting for a good Champagne. Save that for drinking straight or using in Champagne cocktails! Heres a breakdown of the flavor differences in different types of sparkling wine:

  • Champagne: French sparkling wine. It tastes bubbly and fruity, with undertones of almond and orange. A good bottle costs $30 to $40, so you may want to save that for drinking straight versus using in punch.
  • Prosecco: Italian sparkling wine. Its a little sweeter than champagne: fruity and flowery, with notes of apple, pear and lemon. A good bottle costs about $15.
  • Cava: Spanish sparkling wine. It has more citrus notes, and is a little more savory and less fruity. It also typically costs around $15.

What’s The Difference Between Champagne And Sparkling Wine

Champagne is a style of sparkling wine that is produced exclusively in the Champagne region of France under specific guidelines. It is the best-known sparkling wine, and its prestige means that it’s also among the most expensive. In any Champagne punch recipe, you can substitute another sparkling wine. Italy’s prosecco and Spain’s cava are two great alternatives that tend to be more affordable, but you’ll find great sparkling wine options produced throughout the world.

Whats better than a champagne cocktail, whether the bubbly is flavored with cranberry juice or cotton candy? Honestly, you could float Lucky Charms in champagne, and Id probably drink it. So when Tom Hanks went on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and introduced the world to his new, bizarre champagne-spiked cocktail, I was ready to raise a glass.

If youve ever downed a mimosaor fourat brunch, you know how simple it can be to make a champagne cocktail. Just spike the juice of your choice with bubbly, and youre off. In Utah, non-drinkers are all about spiking sodas with everything from fruit juice to cream to fancy syrups, dubbing them dirty sodas. So Hanks bubbly brew is really pretty understandable.

    Whats In Champagne Punch

While I love a large punch, sometimes you dont need that much cocktail, and I hate wasting champagne. Thats why my Champagne Punch Bellini is the perfect party drink.

Basically, this cocktail has two ingredients:

    • Champagne or Prosecco use a good brand. We love La Marca.
    • Sorbet or Sherbet Raspberry or strawberry or any flavor you like.

Like a belllini, you can add any fruit to champagne, so pick your favorite sorbet or sherbet. Garnish with fruit!

Raspberry champagne punch is the most logical one to make, because raspberry sorbet is the most prominent one Ive found. But now that there are all sorts of fun ice cream and sorbet flavors out there, you can pick any flavor you want! I think these would be fantastic with lemon sorbet or mango!

OK, this is so simple, and the 21+ crowd will love it.

Get yourself inexpensive sparkling wine. Look for a dry one with the word Brut on the label. Spend about $15 per bottle. Something from California, a Prosecco from Italy, or a Cava from Spain will work perfectly. Check out our guide to sparkling wines over here.

Put the bubbly into a pitcher or punch bowl with some clear soda . Equal amounts of sparkling wine to soda. You can also add some fruit-flavored liqueur. I like orange, such as Triple sec but Chambord and peach are also very nice. Just dont choose one with a sour note. You just want a sweet liqueur here. No Jolly Rancherness allowed. Then garnish with fruit and ice. Done!

It wont be a very sweet drink. Its actually pretty mellow. It wont be super-alcoholic either since each serving will have half a glass of Champagne. That makes it a good sipper for a long evening.

The best part is that you can make it as your party progresses throughout the night. Since the ratio is a basic 1-to-1, you can keep topping it up as needed. All you need to remember is that a bottle of sparkling wine is 750ml, which is 3 cups. So whenever you pour in a bottle of bubbles, add 3 cups of soda. Thats it.

  • Prepare ice cubes/garnish well in advance if desired.
  • Combine all ingredients except champagne and ice in a drink pitcher. Refrigerate up to 24 hours.
  • To serve, fill a cocktail glass full with the punch mixture and top with champagne. Garnish with cranberries, pomegranate seeds or mint if desired.
  • NOTE: The champagne and ice are added when serving to keep the mixture fresh. This means the ice doesnt melt into the drink and the champagne stays nice and bubbly!

    Faqs About Champagne Punch

If serving from a pitcher, ice is an easy route for single serve glasses. If serving from a punch bowl, make an ice ring by freezing water in a bundt pan, dip pan in warm water to loosen ice ring for removal. Float it in your punch bowl.

Add sherbet to any punch by scooping it right into the punch bowl! I love raspberry and orange sherbets with this recipe.

Youll want to enjoy it on the day it is made, preferably within a couple of hours.

To prepare in advance, you can combine the grapefruit juice, orange juice, and simple syrup up to two days ahead. Just keep refrigerated until ready to serve. The finishing touch on this punch comes as you serve it with champagne and a splash of grenadine.

Notes On Serving Champagne Punch: Preserve The Bubbles

This Champagne punch is best served immediately after you add the bubbles! Of course, that presents a challenge for parties when you leave the punch bowl out during the party. Here are a few notes on serving:

    • Add the champagne and ginger ale right before serving. This way you get the best bubbles.
    • Bubbles last for 20 minutes. So serving it within this window is best. However
    • It still tastes great after 20 minutes. Its not as sparkling, but the flavor is still great.

    How To Serve Champagne Punch

You can absolutely make the best champagne punch for a crowd right in your serving bowl or pitcher if you think you can keep things clean and pretty.

Although this is a punch and your natural instinct might be to run towards your standard punch bowl, you can also change things up a bit.

Here I decided to use a vase to serve the punch in. The shape was fun, it was plastic and perfect for serving outdoors.

You could also put it in a serve-yourself drink dispenser. Or, OMG!, a punch fountain! Or use a pitcher so its easy to walk around and refill glasses.

If your drink container doesnt have a pour spout, just use a ladle to serve. It is punch after all! Punch bowls are gorgeous but not needed.

One of my favorite things about entertaining is using things in new ways or doing things a little bit differently. Sometimes these little touches are enough to create a lasting memory for your guest. And as a host, thats truly what were after.

If serving in a clear container, you can really see the citrus slices in the punch.

For a party, I typically dont garnish the punch once its in the cups. Sometimes I feel like Im fighting the garnish just to get a sip. But thats just me. Im lazy.

What Is Tom Hanks Cocktail Made Of

    Champagne Punch Recipe

Gael Fashingbauer Cooper for Taste of Home

Hanks told Colbert he isnt a drinker. But recently while dining out with his wife Rita Wilson, he asked the restaurant staff to pour a shot of champagne into his Diet Coke, so he could feel like he was celebrating, too. To name the new tipple, Hanks combined the words Diet Coke and champagne, dubbing the drink a Diet Cokagne. Someone alert Sheriff Woody because that kinda sounds like it should be illegal.

The recipe, however, couldnt be simpler. Hanks fills his glass about one-third full with Diet Coke, then simply tops it off with champagne. You dont even have to stir. Why, a guy cast away on an island with a volleyball could make it, if he had the ingredients in one of his handy-dandy FedEx boxes.
