With small amounts of Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, this is classic Oakvillefrom gravelly soils, it is textured and cohesive with structure to spare. A warm vintage, it shows power and intensity in the form of juicy black currant, clove and brown sugar, lengthy and richly inviting on the supple palate. Virginie Boone

Best California: 2014 Heitz Cellar Marthas Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Region: Oakville, Napa Valley, California | ABV: 14.5% | Tasting Notes: Bay leaf, Cedar, Red currant

Heitz Cellar is a jewel among Napa Valley wine producers, and Marthas Vineyard cabernet is their flagship bottle. Aged five years in French Limousin oak barrels, this wine is made with intensely purple grape berries from an exclusive Oakville vineyard situated within its unique micro-climatemeaning this is one exemplary wine. Every vintage since 1966 is coveted by collectors, but 2014 was a particularly good year for this cabernet.

Positively a classic with true cabernet herbal aromas of bay leaf, cedar, mint, and flavors of raspberry, red currant, sassafras, dark chocolate and eucalyptus. Sweet, svelte tannins find a long, dry finish supported by mouthwatering acidity. Best of all, you could be drinking this and enjoying it 50 years from now!

Napa Valley Fabric Of The Land Red Wine

For our Napa Valley Quilt Fabric of the Land Red Wine, we work with grapes representing the diversity of varietals cultivated in the Napa Valley AVA. We source Petite Sirah, Merlot, Zinfandel, and Petit Verdot grapes from a spectrum of Napa Valley proper from Oak Knoll in the South to Calistoga in the North. The result of blending these diverse varietals and regions yields wines of extraordinary concentration of flavor, color, and texture. While the majority of the fruit comes from the valley floor, we also relied on grapes grown on the foot-slopes to achieve the texture and grip we desired.

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasnt until the 1970s that this marriage came to light sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stags Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignons structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soilas a perfect example, Rutherfords famous dust or Stags Leap District‘s tart cherry flavors.

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

3 Bottles

Our Cabernet Sauvignons garner their style from the diverse array of vineyards in Napas mountain, benchland and valley floor areas. Within each of these unique topographies, we focus on locations with well drained, nutrient deprived soils that can stress the vines. With proper farming, the grapes from these locations possess extraordinary concentration of flavor, color, and texture. Cabernet Sauvignon does not lend itself to vineyard designation. Quite the contrary. Cab thrives when blending multiple vineyard sites especially in places as diverse as Napa Valley with its multitude of soils, slopes, and pockets of unique weather.

Our approach is to create a perfect balance in this Cab by marrying the weight and firm tannins of the mountains with the supple fruit forward notes of the valley floor and honoring the natural acidity.

Not to knock Champagne drinks, but if you have an occasion worth celebrating, try skipping the bubbly and diving into this exquisite bottle of cabernet. The Lokoya Mount Veeder is an indulgence, and youll know why as soon as the first drops fall on your tongue. Best French: 2016 Chteau Lynch

Region: Pauillac, Bordeaux, France | ABV: 13.5% | Tasting Notes: Mulberries, Damson plum, Tapenade

Lets go to the left bank of the Gironde River for the most famous expression of cabernet sauvignon on the planet! says Matthew Kaner, host and producer for SOMM TV and the 2013 Food & Wine Sommelier of the Year. Indeed, its hard to imagine a better standard-bearer of old-school cabernet sauvignon than the region of Pauillac, home to some of the most legendary and storied red wine producers in Bordeauxand one producer crafting their cab-dominant blends in a consistently traditional fashion is Château Lynch-Bages.

I love this style of cabernet for having a gentle ripeness of fruit, while also capturing the terroir so well, says Kaner. As Château Lynch-Bages ages, it gains an incredible peatiness, kind of like Islay Scotch! I love it so much.

What Is The Wine Region Of Lodi Famous For

The region of Lodi is famous for its powerful Cabernet Sauvignon.

This tight-knit wine region is nestled between San Francisco Bay and the Sierra Nevada mountains. It is considered to be the next up-and-coming region of the States, as several innovative winemaking techniques and wines are emerging here.

The regions real focus is the ability to produce cost-effective wines, with 80% of the vines being Cabernet Sauvignon. However, the region also produces interesting expressions of Chardonnay, Viognier, Albariño, Zinfandel and Grenache.

For Lodi to produce grapes with such success, they are reliant on the warm summers and the cooling effect that the Delta offers their vineyards. This key combination of warm sun and a cooling breeze, ensures perfect ripening of their grapes, without losing any refreshing acidity.

As a fifth generation Californian winemaker, Joe Wagner has it pretty good. His family has built an empire in American wine. Caymus, the flagship brand is nothing short of a Napa Valley cult. And thats just one brand out of dozens that the Wagner family has built from the ground up into something huge. With their feet firmly entrenched in the soil and the fabric of California winemaking, perhaps theres no more fitting brand name for the Wagner family, than one of their more recent projects, Quilt.

With their access to an abundance of the best vineyards in the most choice AVAs in the valley, the Wagners set out to make Quilt a Cabernet blend from a patchwork of the top sites in Napa . The 2017 is a massive, show stopping Cabernet, a seamless blend that earned a rave 92-point review from the Wine Spectator in their most recent report. This wine is incredibly smooth wine and has the luxury of being bold, seductive and rich. If you love big Napa Cabs, this one is for you.

Review: Richmond Hill Takes Us On Melancholy Colorful Road Trip

Leaving Iowa features Don Faust, left, Leslie Day, Pam Kobre, and Kevin Babbitt.

The new show at Richmond Hill in Geneseo the family-friendly comedy Leaving Iowa is definitely a mixed bag, in good and not so good ways.

The nostalgic memory play by Tim Clue and Spike Manton is set both in the present day and in whiplash-inducing flashbacks the summer of a 1984 during a family vacation from Winterset, Iowa to Hannibal, Mo.

Leaving Iowa focuses on the road trip with the parents and their two kids, and is narrated by the only named character, Don Browning , and he, his sister and mom are played by the same actors in their then-and-now versions. Don is on his own modern-day journey to take his fathers ashes to his childhood home, as well as a way to breach the chasm between himself and Dad.

The kaleidoscopic, affectionate play is billed as a toast to the idealism and character of parents from the greatest generation, and a frantic roast of their dedication to the family road trip. It was nominated Best New Play in the Country by the Detroit Free Press and one of SoCal Theaters 10 Most Memorable Moments of the year after its run at the Laguna Playhouse.

A show suitable for ages 10 to 100, Leaving Iowa is a postcard to anyone who has ever found themselves driving alone on a road, revisiting fond memories of their youth.

Best Washington: Woodward Canyon Artist Series Cabernet Sauvignon

Region: Washington | ABV: 14.5% | Tasting Notes: Black cherry, Menthol, Baking spices

Washington State might seem like an odd place to cultivate a big, rich, warmth-loving red grape like cabernetafter all, isnt Seattle rainy about ten months out of the year? Maybe so, but once you get east of the Cascade mountain range, the climate is considerably drier and sunnier, yielding one of the nations premier growing regions for hearty reds.

Only the second winery to be established in Washingtons prolific Walla Walla Valley, family-run Woodward Canyon has been churning out delicious reds since 1981, and their Artist Series cabernet is a blend of grapes sourced from some of the most highly regarded vineyards in the entire state, including the lengendary Sagemoor Vineyard. The result is a silky, medium- to full-bodied wine bursting with notes of ripe black cherry, blueberry, cassis, warm baking spices, cedar, black pepper, menthol, and cocoa, says Claire Coppi, a Certified Sommelier and a cast member on SOMM TV. Wait about five years before opening, as the wine benefits highly from a little time to integrate in the bottle.

I W Harper Cabernet Cask Reserve Bourbon

Kentucky- Finished in Cabernet Sauvignon Casks and then aged for a second time in luxury Cabernet casks. The result is a wonderfully complex bourbon with flavorful bursts of toasted vanilla, ripe fruit and spice, for an exceptionally clean, lingering, smooth finish and a rich character.

2 oz.

Muddle sugar and 1 orange peel in glass. Add bitters and bourbon. Stir well. Add ice cubes and stir again. Garnish with fresh orange peel.

Bourbon, Americas native spirit, traces its heritage to immigrants who brought their whiskey-making skills to the American colonies in the 18th century. Rye was the crop of choice for them, because it was easier to establish than the traditional barley. But when settlers pushed west to Kentucky, which had gained a reputation for fertile soil and pure spring waters, corn became the base material for their whiskey, and it established a style that Kentucky could call its own.

Although its historically affiliated with Kentucky, Bourbon today may be made anywhere in the United States, so long as producers follow a recipe and process that is set by law.

Silver Oak 2017 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

New vintage of Silver Oak 2017 Napa Valley Cabernet now available.

96 Points Sames Suckling:This is a big upgrade in finesse and clarity to such a popular, premium cabernet from Napa. It shows lots of blackberry, tar, cedar and oak-tree aromas that follow through to a full yet toned palate of fine, integrated tannins and a vivid finish. Owner David Duncan explained that the American oak they use in the wine for aging now comes 100% from their own barrel-making facilities, which tones down the vanilla character in the wine. Really impressive and delicious. Its a joy to drink now, but can age. Drink or hold.

The Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is more limited in availability than the Alexander Valley. Production is the largest yet for the Silver Oak 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa . Full-bodied, chewy, and muscular with an inky dark ruby/plum color, and hints of wood smoke, tobacco, cinnamon, espresso roast, and herbs, this dense, chewy, lavishly oaked wine should drink well for 10-12 years.
