Sangria: About 85 Calories

Low Calorie Wines: How to Drink Wine on a Diet!

Originating from Spain, this drink is quite appreciated for its pronounced fruity side.

Made mainly from fresh fruit, sparkling water, wine, and a little sugar. Sangria has the advantage of containing good nutrients and antioxidants thanks to the fruit it contains.

Be careful because the notion of a little sugar can vary greatly depending on the restaurant or the person serving it to you!

To keep a close eye on the caloric intake of this drink, it is therefore recommended to make it yourself, especially since many manufacturers add sweeteners and sodas rich in sugar.

Muscadet De Svre Et Maine Sur Lie Chteau Du Clray

This wine is from one of the oldest estates in the heart of the Nantes vineyard region. Planted on clay and sandy soils over granite and schist bedrock, the vines here transport a minerality and a touch of richness to the liquid. On the nose, you’ll find citrus and apple fruit, along with notes of lime blossom and mint. A delicious light white.

We’ve chosen this wine due to the grape used in its production. Grapes such as Muscadet, Pinot Grigio, Albariño, Torrontes and Piquepoul produce dry and light white wines. These wines will have fewer calories than the likes of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier. Be sure to always check the ABV you can often find higher ABV wines made using Albariño, Torrontes or Muscadet.

Yellow Tail Pure Bright

Calories per 125ml glass: 79

ABV: 8.5%

One of the biggest wine brands in the world, Australias Yellow Tail last year announced the launch of a new lower ABV wine range in the UK. In line with Pernod Ricards strategy, Casella Family Brands, which owns Yellow Tail, cited changing attitudes toward alcohol to have led them to launching a lighter wine range in the UK.

At the time of its launch, head of strategy, Michael Sergeant, said health and social drivers were impacting the wine category in many ways, with drinking more moderately an aspiration for more people than ever, but that concerns over the taste of lighter wines was holding the category back. Pure Bright seeks to address this, with the aim of offering the same varietal characteristics of a Pinot Grigio, citing notes of red apple, pear and passionfruit, but at a lower abv.

At 8.5% Pure Bright Pinot Grigio carries 79 calories per glass, with the range also including a Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and rosé. The wines are available in Tesco at £7 each.

What’s The Lowest Calorie Alcohol

It’s more than understandable to want to kick back with a drink at the end of a long day, especially after you have one of those days. But, while there’s no shame in that game, it’s easy to forget about those liquid calories you’re sipping.

Unfortunately, they can add up fastespecially if you’re drinking on the regular. And, before you know it, you’ve sabotaged the healthy eating plan you’ve laid out for yourself.

“Calories from alcohol can add up fast,” Christy Brissette, MS, RD, owner of 80 Twenty Nutrition, tells Health. “And, because alcohol doesn’t provide nutrients or fill you up, these calories are usually in addition to what you’re already eating and drinking.” Drinking also can make you feel less inhibited, so you’re more likely to overeat, she says.

While some forms of alcohol contain a fair number of calories on their own , a big issue in all of this is mixers, Keri Gans, MS, RD, author of The Small Change Diet, tells Health. “Many of the mixers we add to alcoholic drinks are high in sugar and provide no nutritional benefit,” she says.

The good news is that you don’t need to swap your chardonnay for seltzer every time you want to celebrate. Just make wiser decisions when it comes to choosing what to drink.

With that in mind, these are the lowest calorie alcoholic drinks you can serve up, including easy tweaks to some popular favorites.

Fitvine Wine Cabernet Sauvignon

Unsurprisingly, FitVine is a brand with a wide range of low-calorie wine options. Their Cabernet Sauvignon is a great choice for a low-calorie red wine because it’s a full-bodied and richly flavored wine without all the added sugar. It’s also low in sulfates, which can be very helpful if you have a wine allergy. Best of all, it’s still 12%-14% ABV, which is a good wine alcohol content, especially for a low-calorie option. This is definitely a red wine worth trying.

Drinks companies have poured millions of pounds into deciphering the recipe to a wine that not only tastes great, but caters to those looking for a lower calorie serve.

Supermarkets have worked hard to introduce stronger and larger ranges of lighter wines, while the New Zealand wine industry has ploughed £8.5m into finding a way to produce lighter wines without compromising on taste.

Tapping into increasing consumer demand for lower alcohol wines, the NZ$17 million Lifestyle Wines project was first announced in 2013.

Funded by the New Zealand government, NZ Winegrowers and around 15 individual wineries, the project is working to develop new ways of working in the vineyard, the winery and responding to changing market demands in order to position New Zealand as a premium producer of low alcohol wines in the future, aiming for an abv of 8-10%.

Meanwhile, Pernod Ricard committed to providing a web link to nutritional information on the labels of all of its strategic brands in 2017, following a report by the EU Commission inviting the trade to devise its own calorie labelling strategy. Diageo and AB InBev have made similar pledges, providing nutritional information on a voluntary basis through a combination of online information and on-pack labelling.

Here, we have taken a look at low calorie wines that still have a decent abv, 7% and above, but carry fewer calories.

Calories In Ros Or Blush Wine

Rosé and blush wines, which come in delicate shades of pink, are particularly popular when the temperatures outside are steamy.

A standard 5-ounce glass of rosé wine contains 126 calories, per the USDA. This sweet wine has 5.8 grams of sugar, which is far more than other wines .

Recommended Servings

There are some health benefits to drinking wine. However, moderation is key: For people assigned male at birth, drinking in moderation amounts to 2 drinks or less per day, and for people assigned female at birth, its 1 drink or less, per the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

And keep the size of your pour in mind: For wine, the National Institutes of Health defines a serving as 5 ounces. If youre not measuring out ounces, its easy to exceed that amount.
