A Solar Eclipse Wine Tasting Aug 17th

Jarhead Red 2009

A total solar eclipse is a rare cosmic event where the moon passes in front of the sun in orbit. This year, and on August 21st the Solar Eclipse will occur.

In Kentucky, its said that Hopkinsville will be a prime location to view the Solar Eclipse and even were said to be able to see the eclipse as well. In fact, astronomers and meteorologists alike have plotted the course of the best viewing spot and many states on the route are prime wine producing states.

We here at Capital Cellars think it would be a great time tonight to taste wines that are from those states!

Whiskey Wednesday Angels Envy Port Vs Angels Envy Cask Strength 08/23/2017

One of the great things about our Whiskey Wednesdays is that you get to sample expensive bourbons that you might not necessarily buy a full bottle of. This helps you know more about a wide variety of bourbons, grow your palate, and experience more mash bills.

Also, Whiskey Wednesday lets you sometimes compare and contract similar bourbons in a battle of bourbons. Which one do you like more? Which can you not stand to drink?

Such is this weeks Whiskey Wednesday. We are featuring Angels Envy Port versus Angels Envy Cask Strength. The cask strength is a very exclusive and rare bottle that retails at $189.99 a bottle and $40 a pour. $20 for a 1/2 ounce of each is a great deal! Join us from 5-8 on Wednesday August 23, 2017 to see which one you like the most! Heres what the distillery has to say about them both:

Angels Envy Port

Angels Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon is finished in port wine casks for an award-winning spirit. We guide each batchs conditioning, blending our handcrafted bourbon in small batches of 8 to 12 barrels at a time.

Its typically aged for up to 6 years. While we lose about 5% of the spirit each year to evaporation, or the Angels Share, whats left behind after were done is truly worthy of envy.

Once its deemed ready, we finish our bourbon in ruby port wine casks, which adds subtly distinct flavor nuances that enhance the whiskey without challenging it. Our port finishing process lasts between three to six months, depending on taste.

The Wines Of August 2020

Sommelier Tries 20 Red Wines Under $15 | World of Wine | Bon Appétit

I guess I messed up and didn’t post August. So here it is, late but available.

2015 Garnet PinotNoir, Monterey County, California

Aromas: Blackberry cobbler, toasted hazelnuts, Chinese fivespice powder, cloves and dried juniper berries.

Flavors: Red and black fruits and berries followed by notesof coffee and vanilla. To us, this wine brings to mind strawberry jam andbutter slathered on freshly toasted home-made bread. The long finish isdelicious and mouth-filling.

Our Monterey Pinot Noir is blended from a few acres in eachof four vineyards scattered along benchlands near the Santa Lucia Highlandsthat are subject to the cool, foggy influence of Monterey Bay.

This was a pleasantPinot, California style with nice fruit in the strawberry line. Finish wasfair, not as long as described, no real tannins, decent backbone to fit to ameal. Winery price is $20, generallyavailable for $10. Decent school-nite wine.

2017 Jepson Syrah,Mendocino County, California

Middle weight, intensely fruited with wonderful earthentexture Brambly blackberry aromatics flow seamlessly into plum and berry fruitforward flavors on an impressive balanced tannin foundation.

Staff Comments: An intense Syrah from Mendocino, California!Rich ripened blackberries on the nose with a touch of peppercorns. This is fullbodied and superb. Notes of caramel latte, smoked almonds, espresso, and bakedboysenberry pie. Serve this with lasagna al forno, a skirt steak salad withBleu cheese crumbles, or BBQs ribs.

Whiskey Wednesday Choose Your Bourbon

We have to admit. Sometimes its hard for us to choose the bourbons we want to feature for our Whiskey Wednesday event at Capital Cellars. Weve chosen Ryes, weve featured full strength cask bourbons, and now, were stuck.

We cant decide what to feature. Were going to feature them all. Yes, every bourbon we have behind our bar and on our menu will be featured. How?

Were going to do a buy-one-get-one half off pours of bourbon.

With over 100 bottles behind our bar, were sure that you will find something you like or have not tried yet.

And for our wine drinkers, were going to offer a great Australian wine, Molly Dooker for $10 a glass. This is a premium wine that we havent found anywhere else. From Australia, this is a fruit forward and enticing wine that you really need to taste to believe.

Wine Of The Week: Jarhead Red

The market is full of labels with clever marketing strategies, but this wine is as straightforward as the name suggests.

The red blend from California is made by two former Marines whodonate some proceeds from each sale to the Marine Corps ScholarshipFoundation.

One would expect a rough and robust wine from a Marine, which isexactly what this delivers. We suggest your consumption battle planinclude giving this wine time to breathe to help subdue thetannins.

Jarhead also offers a chardonnay and a reserve red, but no rosé.”While Marines might drink a rosé, they aren’t likely to admit it,”the winemaker says.

Jeffersons Reserve Very Old Very Small

2. Bought 10Kg of Grapes. Now What ? How To Make F* Wine At Home Ep2

In 1997, when Jeffersons was first starting out, we found a 15-year-old bourbon that we immediately knew was rich, complex and needed to be brought to market. It was in 2003 that we decided to bring in other bourbons to marry with the original Jeffersons Reserve. Similar to Jeffersons, we still use over 50% of that mash bill and add up to 3 more bourbons to create more flavor and complexities. Jeffersons Reserve is a big, sophisticated bourbon that has a lot of flavor up front, a lot of weight mid palate and a deep, wonderful finish.

Wonderful Experience In The Tasting Room And Excellent Wines

Billy took great care of us – made us laugh, poured us amazing wines and I joined the wine club. The attention to detail in describing the wines was impressive and our large group really enjoyed ourselves. I hope to get back to the winery for a relaxing day on the lawn with a bottle of anything!

Curtis Winery has always been my favorite winery in the valley and I have been a wine club member there for some time now. Every time I visit I feel welcomed by either Julie or Bill, who usually work on the weekends. They have always been very accommodating and even let me have an extra taste of something it it’s open because I’m a member. The only thing that they cannot taste you on is the Jarhead Red wines all of the proceeds go towards the Marine Corps. Scholarship Foundation and every bottle they open in the tasting room takes away from that fund. Curtis has a beautiful front lawn with views of the vineyards which is perfect for picnics or tasting outside. Their wines are beautifully understated, reflective of an old-world style and their Syrahs showcase specific vineyards. If you come during harvest and in the middle of the week, chances are they’ll take you back to the crush area so you can see the winemakers in action! This winery is a must try if you are in the area!
