The Seattle-based e-commerce website on Thursday announced that its wine store is open to Michigan customers. It also now includes offerings from Michigan wineries, a move that can help them expand their sales into more states.
Amazon currently acts as the marketplace for wineries to sell directly to consumers in 20 states.
has about 200 bottles and sampler packs available for shipment to Michigan from about 30 different wineries. The overall site offers thousands of labels from hundreds of sellers. The vast majority are domestic wines.
Wines available to Michigan buyers range from $10 to $125 per bottle. Customers can ship up to six bottles for $9.99.
Not all wines are available for shipment to Michigan since state law only allows U.S. wineries to ship wine directly to consumers with a special license. Wineries must obtain a copy of customers’ photo identification to verify they’re at least 21 years old.
