What About Wine In Bottles

What Type of Glass Do You Use for Pinot Noir? : Beer & Wine FAQs

Ah, glad you asked. As you may have noticed, Usual Wines come in single-serving glass bottles, which have been specially designed so you can enjoy your wine whenever and wherever without ever needing to break out a wine glass.

However, if you’re feeling fancy or want to follow a more traditional way of drinking wine , we wont judge. In fact, we have a few suggestions.

Best Ros And White Wine Glasses

If youre more of a white wine lover, dont just pour your Riesling in anything and hope for the best. While white wines have less body and fewer intense flavors than reds, it still matters what glass you serve them in.

In contrast to red wines, light-bodied wines go best in narrow-bowled glasses. This is because the smaller glasses can preserve the fruity flavors by maintaining a cooler temperature.

Also, because white wine glasses are shorter, the space between the drinkers nose and the wine is reduced, meaning you can truly experience the aroma of the wine.

However, because white wines are so diverse, there are exceptions to this rule. For example, fuller-bodied white wines or oaked white wines, such as Chardonnay, suit a glass with a wider bowl. This is because the glass directs the wine to the back of the tongue, allowing you to taste the bolder flavors more intensely.

Is Rioja Wine Sweet Or Dry

Theyre generally low in acidity, with good sweetness and tannin and little to no oak. Older reds, especially reservas, are everything you want to experience in Rioja. Medium sweetness and tannin and low acidity with a medium to high oakiness. These wines are true class and offer unbeatable value for money.

Its Time To Raise A Glass

What Kind of Wine Drinker Are You?

Like pairing food with wine, choosing the right types of wine glasses can help bring out the notes, flavors, and textures of wine.

When selecting wine glasses, first pay attention to the body of the wine youre serving. If it’s a full-bodied red, choose a Bordeaux glass. If its a light-bodied red like Pinot Noir, pick a glass with a wider brim.

For white wines, a small glass with a narrow mouth is usually the way to go. However, dont forget to serve those full-bodied whites in a wider glass to experience the aromas. When it comes to sparkling wines, opt for a long-stemmed glass to avoid over-warming the drink with unnecessary hand contact.

There are many factors that can affect your wine drinking experience, and choosing the right wine glass is just one way to get the most out of your bottle. To learn more about the best ways to serve wine, check out our blog, which is loaded with helpful tips.

Wineries And Wedding Venues

In recent years, winery weddings have become more and more popular. Wineries and vineyards make gorgeous wedding venues, with lush fields, beautiful cellars and sprawling grounds. Thanks to the rising popularity in vineyard weddings, many wineries offer fantastic wedding packages that include a certain amount of wine from their very own cellars as well as champagne for toasts. However, most wineries will not allow you to bring in other wine and if they allow beer and hard alcohol, you will most likely also have to purchase a wine package in order to have a full bar.

How Much Wine Should I Get

Running out of wine at your wedding would be a travesty, so make sure you pick up enough to serve everyone. Many people enjoy drinking a glass of wine with dinner, while some enjoy drinking wine throughout the night. To accommodate all of your guests of legal drinking age, the general rule of thumb is to purchase one drink per person per hour of your reception. A typical ratio of alcohol to serve is 1/3 beer, 1/3 liquor and 1/3 wine as well as sparkling wine or champagne. So, if you have 100 guests in attendance then you will need about 30 to 40 glasses of wine per hour. With approximately 4 glasses of wine per bottle, youll need about 8 to 10 bottles of wine per hour. If your reception is 3 hours long, we suggest purchasing about 24 bottles of wine, or 2 cases. Each bottle of sparkling wine or champagne will provide about 8 glasses to toast, so for 100 guests you should purchase 13 bottles of sparkling wine for toasts only.

Of course, if you know your side of the family are excellent wine-drinkers, then you should tailor your alcohol menu to have more wine. If you find yourself in between cases , we suggest rounding up. After all, if you have any left over after the wedding, you or your guests can take it home!

Can You Use White Wine Instead Of Red Wine In Beef Stew

Try something new! All wines will chemically behave in the same way, so theres no danger that a recipe wont work if you use a white instead of a red or vice versa. Flavors will become more concentrated and pronounced as the wine cooks and reduces. Keep this in mind when you pick a wine for cooking.

From Other Fruits And Foods

Quiz: What Kind of Wine Are You?

Wines from other fruits, such as apples and berries, are usually named after the fruit from which they are produced, and combined with the word “wine” and are generically called fruit wine or country wine . Other than the grape varieties traditionally used for wine-making, most fruits naturally lack either sufficient fermentable sugars, proper amount of acidity, yeast amounts needed to promote or maintain fermentation, or a combination of these three materials. This is probably one of the main reasons why wine derived from grapes has historically been more prevalent by far than other types, and why specific types of fruit wines have generally been confined to the regions in which the fruits were native or introduced for other reasons.

Mead, also called honey wine, is created by fermenting honey with water, sometimes with various fruits, spices, grains, or hops. As long as the primary substance fermented is honey, the drink is considered mead. Mead was produced in ancient history throughout Europe, Africa and Asia, and was known in Europe before grape wine.

Starch

Some UK supermarkets have been criticized for selling “wine based” drinks, which only contain 75% wine, but which are still marketed as wine. The International Organisation of Vine and Wine requires that a “wine-based drink” must contain a minimum of 75% wine, but producers do not have to divulge the nature of the remaining 25%.

The Wine You Should Be Drinking: Take The Quiz

February 10, 2011 by Caroline

*Note: I spent hours slaving over my computer hand-crafting a quiz to help you find the wine you should be drinking!

The link is all the way down at the bottom of this post to encourage you to actually read it.

Also, please take the quiz, post your results, then, if you are so inclined, go out and grab a bottle of the suggested wine and let me know how it goes!

Just the other day I got into a conversation with a coworker who considers herself a passionate, knowledgeable, and sophisticated foodie about the fact that she knows nothing about wine not even what kind she likes. My coworker went on to mention that she usually goes for white wines that are really sweet but has recently been falling for Shiraz but thats about the extent of her wine knowledge and tastes.I was reminded, then, of my own developing tastes in wine and how I started off drinking only whites, too. When I was first starting to drink wine I loved a Pinot Grigio that was light, crisp, vaguely fruity and super easy to . Next, I had a brief fling with Sauvignon Blanc that was really ripe and tropical-tasting and had the kind of pineapple acid that gently fizzed on my tongue. I guess these very early affairs precipitated a lot of what I would come to look for and love in wine later, yet also illustrated something I always knew, right from the start, that I didnt sweetness.

Best Types Of Wine Glasses For Sparkling Wine

When it comes to serving sparkling wines such as Brut, a Champagne flute is ideal.

Because sparkling wines such as Brut are best served cool, the long stems of a Champagne flute are perfect drinkers can hold their glass without transferring the heat from their hand to the wine.

Avoid stemless glasses when it comes to white wine or sparkling wine. Since stemless wine glasses force you to hold the bowl, they cause the wine to warm far past their optimum temperature. However, this matters a lot less with red wine since its served slightly warmer.

Sparkling wine glasses are also specially designed to maintain the wines iconic bubbles. Because flutes are long and slim, they have a small surface area, which means the bubbles have less time to oxidize.

However, for some aged Champagnes and Cavas, you might want to serve them in a tulip-shaped glass the slightly wider bowl collects more of the aged brioche-like flavors.

Why Glassware Matters

Types of Wine Bottles and Their Origins – What is the Best for You?

Selecting the right type of wine glass all comes down to vapor. Studies show that the shape of a wine glass can have a noticeable effect on the nose and finish of the wine because of how the glass lets off ethanol.

While a classic wine glass will have a lower alcohol concentration in the center of the glass than around the ring, a martini glass or a straight glass will not. Scientist Kohji Mitsubayashi refers to this as a ring-shaped vapor pattern:

This ring phenomenon allows us to enjoy the wine aroma without interference of gaseous ethanol. Accordingly, wine glass shape has a very sophisticated functional design for tasting and enjoying wine.

The aroma of wine is significant in wine tasting. These aromatic vapors give you a clue as to what the flavor compounds are in your chosen glass, even before you taste it. They ready your brain for the taste and add to the wine tasting experience.

If you dont believe it, try it. Take your favorite wine and serve it a few different glasses, varying the width of the bowl and the opening of the glass. Can you taste or smell a difference? We bet you can.
