Champagne And Gin Cocktail

Don't Miss

What You Need To Make This Recipe

4 x Champagne Cocktails – one of them has Guinness in it!?

Gin traditionally, you make a French 75 with a London dry gin. London dry gin means that the gin is infused with botanical flavor through re-distillation with no artificial flavorings or additives after distillation. There can also be no more than 0.1 grams of sweetener per liter. I went with Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin as it combines Asian and local Irish botanicals, leading to a distinctive spirit with citrus, juniper, and cardamom notes.

Champagne while all champagne is sparkling wine, not all sparkling wine is champagne. Champagne has to come from the champagne region in France to get that title. I recommend using brut champagne as its dry and made with less than 12 grams of added sugar per liter.

Simple syrup the sweetness from the simple syrup balances out the gin and champagne. You can use store-bought or homemade simple syrup.

The Top Shelf French 75

Shake first three ingredients over ice. Strain into a chilled flute, and top with about 3 oz. of chilled Champagne.

Using actual, real Champagne here is the quickest and best way to make this drink as good as it can be. Made as above, this is very much a cocktail defined by the sparkling wine , and Champagne has the depth, power and grace to handle that responsibility. Its not important what kind of Champagne, there are enough rules in that part of the world that if the bottle says Champagne, itll be great. Also an option here is a very high-quality Cava or Franciacorta, as long as theyre made in the traditional method and have seen sufficient bottle conditioning.

To Make These Dry Gin Drinks Start With The Garnish

This might sound counterintuitive, but youll need lemon juice and a twist of lemon for this recipe and its a heck of a lot easier to get that twist from a whole lemon than one thats already been juiced. Before you start blending the gin and champagne cocktail, get out your zester and use the channel tool to scrape a long, thin peel of the rind for the garnish. Set the peel aside, then juice the lemon.

What Alcohol Can You Mix With Champagne

Champagne is a sparkling wine that is often enjoyed on its own, but it can also be used in cocktails. Here are some of the best alcohols to mix with champagne:

Gin pairs well with champagne because its botanical notes complement the fruitiness of the wine.

2. Vodka

Vodka is a good mixer for champagne because it has a clean flavor that wont overpower the wines subtle nuances.

3. Tequila

Tequila is another spirit that pairs well with champagne due to its bright, citrusy notes.

4. Brandy

Brandy is a great choice for mixing with champagne because its warm, toasty flavors are a nice contrast to the wines crispness.

5. Rum

Rum is a good option for mixing with champagne because it has a sweet and fruity flavor that pairs well with the wines fruitiness.

Pineapple Dole Whip Mimosa

FRENCH 75

The one thing that most champagne cocktails are not is creamy, but this delightful pineapple dole whip mimosa is the exception that proves the rule.

Its thick, creamy, and full of pineapple yumminess thatll have you dreaming of the beach and the waves crashing over your toes.

Despite its fleshy pink appearance, the strawberry mimosa tastes remarkably similar to the traditional orange mimosa.

The only difference is a bright burst of berry deliciousness underneath all the tangy orange flavor.

The drink requires only three ingredients and takes 5 minutes or less to make.

These are perfect for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or lazy summer days beside the pool.

Which Gin Should I Use

You dont need to spring for a very expensive gin for this drink any mid-range gin will do nicely.

That said, I am a particular fan of a French 75 made with Nolets Silver, a really beautiful gin with notes of rose and peach. And while I dont usually recommend Hendricks gin for cocktail mixing , that gin is actually quite refreshing in this drink.

The History Of Gin And Fizz: How Gin And Champagne Cocktails Came To Be

Gin and Champagne cocktails are the perfect way to make an occasion specialand they have quite the history, too. Read on to learn more about how these two first got together.

Purists may scoff at the idea, but Champagne really is an excellent cocktail ingredient. Exquisite on its own, Champagne also adds balance and elegance to most servesnot to mention a festive dose of fizz.

But while many drinkers might assume Champagne cocktails are a more recent innovation, in fact their history dates back to the very beginnings of modern cocktail culture. Or, as drinks historian David Wondrich puts it, Champagne cocktails are from the Iron Age of American mixologythat final prehistoric period between the invention of the cocktail, whenever that was, and 1862, when the first cocktail book was published.

Some of the earliest written records of cocktails featuring Champagne date to 1855, though they were likely enjoyed even earliercontemporary sippers might be surprised to learn that, in those days, they were frequently served in tumblers over crushed ice. One of the earliest sparkling serves was the creatively named Champagne Cocktail, which was made with a sugar cube soaked with bitters, mixed with Cognac, and finally topped up with Champagne.

Before they came to be served in flutes, Champagne cocktails were served in tumblers, over crushed ice.

Choosing The Right Gin

Gin is a classic liquor if there ever was one, dating back hundreds of years this blend has been consumed all over the world. Gin, as we know it today, originated in Holland and later England. Gin is the base for so many cocktails, particularly the martini.

Gin gained popularity in the US about a century ago with the popularization of the martini. Then home brewers began making their own bathtub gin during prohibition. Its clear easy base is ideal for many drinks and just about anyone can find something they like made with gin.

What sets gin apart from vodka and other clear liquors is the addition of botanicals, juniper, during the distillation process. That flavor gives gin its unique taste.

For this cocktail I chose a London dry gin, the easiest to come by at most stores. It has a smooth dry taste and works well is so many drinks. Bombay Sapphire is my favorite, but you can also try Tanqueray. Start with a few small bottles of different varieties and figure out what suits your pallet first.

About The Classic Gin And Champagne Cocktail

The French 75 we know today first appeared in print during the late 1920s. According to cocktail historian David Wondrich, people had long been enjoying the mix of gin and champagne , but sometime during Prohibition, someone gave it the name French 75.

The name is a reference to the 75mm field gun, which was used by both the French and the Americans during World War I. The powerful bang of the large caliber firearm was the perfect metaphor for the potent punch packed by this boozy mix of spirits and sparkling wine!

Is Drinking Elderflower Good For You

Many people enjoy drinking elderflower cordial or tea, but is it actually good for you?

Elderflower has a long history of use in traditional medicine. It is thought to be a detoxifier and has been used to treat a variety of conditions including bronchitis, sinus infections, and bladder and kidney problems.

There is some evidence that elderflower can help to reduce inflammation and improve symptoms in people with conditions such as hay fever, sinusitis, and asthma. It may also help to reduce the risk of urinary tract infections and has been shown to be effective in treating diarrhea.

Some people also believe that elderflower can help to boost the immune system and improve overall health. However, there is no scientific evidence to support these claims.

Overall, drinking elderflower appears to be safe and may provide some health benefits. However, more research is needed to confirm these benefits.

Does Pink Gin Go With Elderflower Tonic

    Valentine’s French 75 – Tipsy Bartender

Pink gin is a type of gin that is made with the addition of either natural or artificial coloring, typically rose or strawberry. Elderflower tonic is a type of carbonated drink that is made with elderflower extract and other botanical ingredients. So, the question is, does pink gin go with elderflower tonic?

Well, the answer to that question is a bit complicated. It really depends on the specific ingredients used in the pink gin and the elderflower tonic. If the pink gin is made with a lot of artificial flavors and sweeteners, then it may not pair well with the elderflower tonic. However, if the pink gin is made with natural flavors and no sweeteners, then it may pair well with the elderflower tonic.

The same is true for the elderflower tonic. If it is made with a lot of artificial sweeteners, then it may not pair well with the pink gin. However, if the elderflower tonic is made with natural sweeteners, then it may pair well with the pink gin.

So, in general, it is probably best to try out different combinations of pink gin and elderflower tonic to see which ones work best together.

Other Types Of Bubbly You Can Use

All champagne is sparkling wine, however, not all sparkling wine is champagne. Why? Champagne has to come from the champagne region in France to get that designation. However, that doesnt mean you have to use French champagne in this gin and champagne cocktail. And to be honest, I dont.

This is a personal preference, but to me, using really good French champagne is kind of a waste when youre mixing a cocktail. The Veuve Clicquot on the left can run between $40 and $50/bottle. Consequently, when I DO pop a cork on a good bottle, I want to enjoy it for all the things its special for, not blend it with other ingredients. The Kirkland Prosecco is a very good sparkling wine for under $10. You can also use a Spanish Cava, Cremant De Bourgogne or any other type of good drinkable bubbly. Just look for Brut on the label for the driest sparkler.

Ingredients For A Gin And Prosecco Cocktail

Heres what youll need to make our Gin and Prosecco cocktail!

Gin. Of course! When choosing a gin, look for something dry with citrus notes . A bottle with a fresh, light flavor will bring out the other ingredients in this cocktail perfectly. We suggest a London dry you cant go wrong with Hendricks.

If youre feeling adventurous, you can also make your own gin like we have done.

Prosecco. In a pinch, we used a peachy sparkling rosé. It mostly added color more than anything. Experiment here a bit, if youd like to switch up your drink. For a no-fail crowd pleaser, I recommend a simple La Marca prosecco.

Lemon juice. Always use fresh lemon juice in your cocktails! Its one step to take that really makes them stand out.

Simple syrup. In a pinch, make your own at home. Or use something like this. If youre making your own, make it extra interesting by infusing it with a fun flavor.

Lemon twist for garnish. See below for our quick and simple lemon twist tutorial!

    Who Invented The French 75

Cocktail history has long said that the French 75 was created by Harry MacElhone. The Scottish owner of Harrys New York Bar in Paris and author of numerous 1920s bartending guides is known for creating many great drinks. While he took credit for the sidecar, old pal, Boulevardier, and even the bloody mary, in his book, The ABC of Mixing Drinks, MacElhone wrote that the French 75 was first created at Bucks Club in London.
