Groceries and alcohol have become some of the most popular delivery requests in 2021, two trends that were adopted during the pandemic and are likely here to stay, according to an Uber Eats report shared with Travel + Leisure.
Americans ordered everything from bananas to large margaritas and White Claw variety packs, according to the delivery service’s Uber Eats Cravings Report. And Americans turned to pharmacies and convenience stores like 7-Eleven to order practical things like Tylenol, COVID-19 antigen self-test kits, and perhaps less practical blue raspberry Slurpees right to their doors.
“Over the last twelve months, our customers have relied on Uber Eats to order sandwiches, sunflowers, screwdrivers, and everything in between,” Lexi Levin Mitchel, a spokeswoman for Uber, told T+L. “And we know that there is nothing better than having your order delivered exactly as you’d envisioned no matter how unique it may be. So whether you’ve got a hankering for watermelon with yellow mustard, or you’re in need of bandaids and baby formula, you really can get anything with Uber Eats.”
When it came to restaurant food Uber Eats users went for comfort as cheese fries exploded in popularity increasing more than 1,234%, compared to before the pandemic.

Uber Eats Launches Alcohol Delivery In Toronto

Uber Eats has expanded its delivery offerings in Toronto to include alcohol.
In a news release, the company announced that effective today, select restaurants will be able to offer beer, wine and liquor delivery. The first few restaurants Gusto 101, Gusto 501 and Chubbys Jamaican Kitchen are all operated by the Gusto 54 hospitality group.
The AGCO loosened the rules around alcohol delivery last month in order to give bars and restaurants an additional income stream during the coronavirus pandemic. However, orders had to be accompanied by food, and age verification measures still had to be enforced a potential hurdle for some services who might otherwise have offered the service.
Uber initially was cautious about the new move: As you can understand, ID/sobriety checks are at odds with contactless delivery,a rep told NOW shortly after the launch.
However, Uber now says they have new put measures in place, including reviewing the customers photo ID and entering the customers date of birth in the Uber Driver app to verify their age. At this time, couriers are not required to collect a signature from the customer to complete the delivery due to COVID-19, the company adds.

Convenience Got A Little More Convenient
Im a big fan of app delivery services, but nobody offered tobacco delivery. And then I found 7NOW. They do require ID at checkout AND when delivered and the driver is required to scan the ID. Super smart. I use this feature to avoid going out of my way/dealing with early morning traffic in the mornings to get cigarettes when my work is a straight shot from my home. I havent had any problems with the app, they always arrive on time or early. Only suggestion would be if the store is out of an item that you have an option to select something else. I find it a little hard to believe that a store is always out of 20oz Diet Pepsi but time will tell I guess. I would gladly accept a Diet Coke too And for those that are complaining about your 7-11 not delivering – not all stores participate- just like on GrubHub/DoorDash/Postmates. I know there is a closer 7-11 to me than the one that the driver shows up at on the map. Just cause there is a store a block away doesnt mean they offer delivery! Dont blame the app for that.
