Behold, the 2019 Avalon Chardonnay, a product of the western edge of Sonoma County where the Pacific Ocean breezes give shape to every grape. Best Under $: 2018 Flora Springs Family Select Chardonnay

Courtesy of Wine.com

With its misty mornings and sunny afternoons, Napa Valley has the natural climate for peak chardonnay production. Winemaker Ken Deis at Flora Springs knows how to romance the land to make that chardonnay soar. Their refreshing 2018 Family Select was aged for ten months in French oak barrels, culminating as one of the top bottles representing the region, variety and vintage.

Bold, dry, and easy to love, this wine is creamy, lemony and toasty with a nice mineral tension. Make it a match with shellfish, creamy soups and sauce-covered meats.

Thgeneration Vineyard Chardonnay 2017

H-E-B Virtual Wine Class| New Wines to Try in 2021

Winemaking

The grapes are from the Okanagan Falls vineyard. 80% of the juice ferments in French oak barrels, completes the Malolactic fermentation and ages on sur-lie for another 5 months in the same barrique barrels to gain texture. The rest does the same in Stainless Steel tanks to keep the pure fruit intensity. Blended together in Spring and aged until Fall, the result is a fruity, complex yet layered wine.

Tasting Notes

14% Alcohol. If you love buttery chards this one is for you. The nose has kiwi, ripe apple, pear and lemon. Flavours of apples, Anjou pear, tropical fruit and citrus with a buttery mouthfeel that keeps on giving. It belongs to the new Generation of Chardonnays and is a perfect example of a premium cold climate Chard. One majestic oaked Chard. 93 Points

Some Chardonnay Buyers Also Ask

How many glasses of wine will get me drunk?

Two glasses of wine in an hour will make you legally drunk unless you weigh 250lbs or more. If you want to drink responsibly, drink wine slowly and alternate with lemonade or water.

How do I capitalize ‘chardonnay’?

Weirdly enough, wines are capitalized based on origin. If a wine is named after a grape or something, it isn’t capitalized. But if it’s named after a region, then it is. This means that wines like ‘chardonnay’, ‘merlot’, and ‘malbec‘ are not capitalized.

Is alcohol-free chardonnay available?

Yes – alcohol-free chardonnay is available. However, the variety of flavors you get from real chardonnays will not be present in alcohol-free chardonnay. You can find alcohol-free versions of most alcoholic drinks.

Chardonnay Styles And How To Find Them

If youre just getting started with Chardonnay, heres what you need to know. There are 3 primary styles of Chardonnay. Once you learn the secrets to this grape, youll be able to find great Chardonnay wines on your own.

Since Chardonnay is made everywhere, you can begin to familiarize yourself with regional differences. The climate plays a lot into these differences, although things like can play a hand.

Thomas S Moore Finished In Port Casks

8 Best White Wines to Drink 2021

Average Price:$76

The Whiskey:

Barton 1792 doesnt release their mash bills to the public. Though its very likely this is a low-rye bourbon mash. The barrels are pulled from various, undisclosed age ranges and vatted. That juice then goes into ex-port casks for an additional maturation of one to three years. That whiskey is then married, slightly proofed, and bottled.

Tasting Notes:

The nose is beautiful rich with hints of red berries, sweet and dry dates, a touch of vanilla tobacco, and a whisper of soft leather. The palate has a jammy presence with a plum compote spiked with cloves and allspice next to a touch of port-soaked cedar planks, vanilla cream, sultanas, and I want to say mulled wine cinnamon sticks. That spice does start to build towards the medium-length finish but doesnt overheat. The fade is nice and mellow with more dried and red fruit leading towards a creamy veneer of spicy vanilla custard with a very distant tobacco vibe on the end of the tail.

Bottom Line:

This is one of those whiskeys that grew on me as the year passed by. The silken hues seemed to mellow into a nice, sweet, and approachable bourbon. While Ive used it more in cocktails, it works well on the rocks if youre looking for something a little different.

Don’t Miss: What Takes Wine Out Of Clothes

Chamisal Vineyards Sta Rita Hills Chardonnay 2018

This Chardonnay is all about texture, with creamy, buttery aromas previewing the experience that awaits in glass. Each soft and velvety sip arrives with mild acidity, amplifying subtle mineral notes that reign in its weighty viscosity. Enjoy with a rich risotto or classic roast chicken dinner. Average price: $38. Rating 89.

Wilderness Trail High Rye Bourbon

Average Price:$86

The Whiskey:

Wilderness Trail is the whiskey nerds whiskey. Their High Rye Bourbon is a mash of 64 percent corn, 24 percent rye, and 12 percent barley grains that are fermented with a proprietary Wildness Trail yeast using the sweet mash process. The whiskey then spends four years and nine months aging before its bottled without any filtration and barely proofed.

Tasting Notes:

Theres a mild holiday cake vibe with brown spice, nuts, and dried fruit mingling with touches of oak, chocolate-covered berries, and biscuits. The taste becomes a sort of buttered-biscuit-smothered-with-berry-jam thats been touched with spice as a note of sweetened vanilla lurks in the background. The end is long and leans back into the fruit as the vanilla and spice create a silken mouthfeel.

Bottom Line:

Every bar cart should have at least one Wilderness Trail on it. And I really got into mixing Manhattans and Sazeracs with this one this year. Its a great, bold whiskey that truly shines when mixed.

Belle Meade Single Barrel

Average Price:$89

The Whiskey:

This expression is all about the prowess of the team at Nelson Green Brier. Each of these MGP barrels is hand-selected for its beauty and then bottled at cask strength to let that barrel shine through in the finished product.

Tasting Notes:

The nose opens with deep vanilla that mingles with hints of dark chocolate sugar cookies with a touch of mint. The palate centers the creamy vanilla while adding in a cinnamon bark vibe with notes of black pepper and floral honey moved into the background. The end is long-ish and carries more of that vanilla cream while that cinnamon becomes slightly chewy with a dried choco-mint tobacco buzz on the tip of the tongue.

Bottom Line:

This bourbon is a great example of how important barrel selection can be. It also helps shine a light on how diverse the bourbon coming out of MGP really is. On top of all of that, its also delicious and makes for a great sipper with a little water.

Oaked Chardonnays That Defy Expectations

W2S (Harry) NEW GIRLFRIEND 2021

Chardonnay is the most widely planted white grape variety in the world. It is also the one most often associated with oaky white wine because it takes well to oak, despite whether it spends a year in barrel or just a few months. Oak-fermented or -aged Chardonnays are made across the globe in a variety of climates, so if creamy, buttery, nutty Chardonnays are your palate predilection, these wines are for you.

Clendenen Family 2016 Le Bon Climat Chardonnay $50, 94 points. Jim Clendenen saves his richer styles of Chardonnay for this family brand, and he remains a master of the style, adhering to balance while toying with woody lushness. Aromas of roasted nuts, toasted oak and butter meet with crisp and fresh citrus blossoms on the nose, while the viscous palate combines roasted apple, pecan and apple blossom flavors with bright acidity. Editors Choice.Matt Kettmann

J. Moreau & Fils 2018 Valmur Grand Cru $108, 94 points. The richness of oak expresses itself as the scent of roasted hazelnut on this wines nose. Smooth and rounded, the palate can handle the oaky resonance that sets the tone. An edge of honey is balanced by lemony brightness. Concentration and freshness signal that this wine will age well. Food Pairings

This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with rich dishes like steak bearnaise, creamy risotto or eggs benedict with Hollandaise sauce. Equally as nice is BBQ chops with a selection of summer fresh red peppers, butternut squash and fresh baby potatoes with a hint of dill. Also works well with seafood such as Dover Sole with a crab sauce.

Chteau Ste Michelle Canoe Ridge Estate Chardonnay 2018

A juggernaut of American winemaking, its somewhat fitting that this Château Ste. Michelle wine encapsulates the type of Chardonnay thats associated with this nation. At 14.5 percent ABV, and with 96 percent of the wine encountering some form of oak, its an undoubtedly heady white. But the rich influence of oak, and the creamy texture provided by malolactic fermentation, are tempered by pronounced Meyer lemon notes. Each sip finishes with harmony and balance. Simply put, this is one of the finest American Chardonnays available right now. Savory dried herbs and green leaf notes build layers of complexity upon its tart fruit and floral core. The wines texture is round, its alcohol content does not register, and the finish doesnt linger but instead sets up camp for the long haul. What a fine Chardonnay this is. Average price: $65. Little Book Chapter : The Invitation

Average Price: $125 MSRP

The Whiskey:

The juice is a blend of four whiskeys three straight bourbons and one straight rye. The rye is a 100 percent malted rye thats three years old. The bourbons are two, five, and 15 years old.

Tasting Notes:

The nose opens with a Pecan Sandie vibe with a flake of salt, spiciness derived from fresh ginger juice, and dark chocolate laced with raw sugar and apple-soaked cinnamon sticks that have been ground to a fine powder. The palate builds on that cinnamon spice with a touch of nutmeg and clove that ties to a vanilla pudding-esque svelte body next to little pops of dried pecan shells, faux maple syrup, cinnamon toast with plenty of butter, more of that ginger, and a touch of subtle red fruit. The mid-palate leans creamy with light milk chocolate that leads back to the warmth with a dried red peppercorn pepperiness next to a rush of cedar boxes full of vanilla tobacco leaves with the slightest echo of menthol and dried reeds on the very deep back end.

Bottom Line:

Freddie Noe hit this one out of the park. Its crazy-sippable neat while really going deep when you bloom it with a little water. Its just excellent in every respect.

George Dickel Bottled In Bond Spring 2007

Average Price:$45

The Whiskey:

Nicole Austin has been killing it with these bottled-in-bond releases from George Dickel. This years release is a whiskey that was warehoused in spring 2007. 13 years later, this juice was bottled at 100 proof and sent out to the wide world where it received much adoration.

Tasting Note:

The nose on this one is mildly sweet with almost earthy maple syrup next to pecans from a pie with a touch of dried apple and old leather. The taste runs deep with vanilla leading the way next to a touch of apple and pecan crumble. The mid-palate takes a turn away from all of that and dives into a candied cherry thats dusted with dark chocolate and a ground-up fruit Neco Wafer or Flintstones multivitamin before the finish gets this browned butter vibe with a touch of soft, sweet oak.

Bottom Line:

This remains one of my favorite sips of the year. It stands out. Its highly drinkable neat or with some water. It also makes a great cocktail. Theres really little more you could ask for.
