Blue Wine Anyone How Gik Is Shaking Up The Wine Industry
Blue wine is not something you expect to see on the menu or at your local supermarket. But that might change with Gik blue wine, the creation of a Spanish company creating new market space in a highly competitive industry. Gik is now sold in over 25 countries including the US. As of December 2017, the company has sold roughly 400,000 bottles. Taig Mac Carthy, one of the founders of the company, tells us more.

Bluet Maine Wild Blueberry Sparkling Wine
Tart, bubbly, and cider-like. Toss them into the cooler for a day at the beach, or in your knapsack for a hike. With more than a pint of wild blues pressed to make each one, no carbs and zero sugar, think of Bluet-in-a-can as summers super drink!
Bluet wild blueberry sparkling wine captures summer in Maine with the purity of a single ingredient: native Maine wild blueberries.
Made from 100% Maine wild blueberries 1lb. pound in every can. Wild blueberries have twice the antioxidants of grocery store hybridized blueberries, and great natural acidity. Bluet is a bone dry wine of moderate alcohol with nothing added other than yeast and the liqueur de tirage to produce effervescence. It is made using the Charmat Method.
Bluet tastes like wild blueberries yet is not a blueberry jam sweet wine. It defies expectations, offers vivid fresh berry aromas, and lives in a world between cider and fine wine. It is naturally well balanced and refreshing. The bright acidity and bubbles work nicely with salt and fat. Bluet is also often mixed in cocktails: try it in a French 75 or mixed 4 to 1 with triple sec over crushed ice. 7% alcohol.

What You Taste In Your Glass Is Most Important
One of these conversations is between a supermarket and a big winery , the other is between independent winemakers and their customers
Well let you guess which one is which )
Grapes are a limited resource and they can throw a tantrum if the weather isnt good so its hard to stick to a demanding sales quota.
Wed rather pay 20 cents more to have 3,000 bottles of something genuinely delicious than 3 million bottles of something thats just barely palatable.

In Short Gk Blue In Spain
Theres red wine, white wine, rosé wine and even orange wine, but who thought blue wine would ever exist? Blue wine is revolutionary, says Aritz López, one of the co-founders of Gïk Blue. Created in Spain by six people with over two years of research, Gïk Blue is the worlds first blue wine on the market. The founders of Gïk decided they wanted to be innovative in a very traditional industry. Is it changing the way people look at wine? Its hard to answer no to that, now that there are other wineries making blue wine around the world.
Heres how Gïk blue wine was researched and created, its made from a mixture of both red and white grapes that are turned blue thanks to a technological pigmentation process that combines a pigment of the skin of red grapes and a pigment that comes from a flower. What may surprise you about Gïk Blue wine is that there are no artificial additives in this version of blue wine and it is 100% organic. The creators of Gïk wanted to make a wine that even the most environmentally or health conscious wine drinker could enjoy. Gïk Blue is now in 30 countries across the globe.

Blue Tongue Skinks are not the most popular pet, so you might have to go to a breeder anyway if you want to buy one. It is especially important to consider rare morph when buying one. Blue Tongue Skinks, for instance, can be as low as $150, for example. Skinks that are rarer can cost up to $5,000, however.

But Gik is so distinctive that many were able to pick it out right away, for better or worse. Tasting notes included: “Blue Jolly Ranchers,” “Robitussin,” “Capri Sun” and “Gross.” It was a highly polarizing drink. Not surprising, people who prefer sweet wines thought it was great, and people who prefer dry wines thought it was disgusting. When it comes to the United States, it will retail for less than $15 a bottle – just the right price for an impulse purchase for a party.
After all, as Kroll notes, “the millennial wine drinker always wants to Instagram things.”

This New Blue Wine Is Finally Available For Purchase In The Us
Would you add blue wine to your collection of red, white and rosé varieties?
Do you remember the blue wine, Gïk, that came out last year? With cerulean hues that came from a grape skin pigment known as anthocyanin and indigo extracted from a plant, the wine was only available in select European countries. But now theres Blumond sparkling blue wine, a bottled Prosecco cocktail, and you can finally buy both it and Gïk in the states.
You can pre-order Gïk through their website, but if youre planning to try and get it for the Fourth of July , youre out of luck. The wine wont ship until later this year, in October. You can order one bottle for $16, two bottles for $28, six bottles for $66 or 12 bottles for $124 if you really cant get enough of the stuff.
As far as Blumond goes, you can buy it for $21.99 per bottle via Saracenis online store, which isnt quite as good a deal as Gïk. Its also not technically wine. Blumond is a blend of peachy-tasting Prosecco grapes from the Italian winery Fratelli Saraceni that has been mixed with blue curaçao, according to a review of the wine by VinePair. And because it only has 7 percent alcohol by volume, Italy doesnt even consider it to be real wine . Its a sweet wine, so if Moscato and Riesling are your go-to wines, you might like it.
Would you try the new blue wine, or would you rather stick to the red, white and rosé varieties?

What Blue Wine Tastes Like
We tried Gik’s blue-hued beverage that’s hitting the U.S. this fall.
When we first heard about Gik‘s blue-tinted wine last year, needless to say, we had many questions. Why is it blue? How is it blue? What does blue wine taste like? Now we know. And soon, so will the rest of the country.
Gik answered the first two questions on its website early on. With regard to “why” the brand makes a blue wine, the response was “why not?” Fair enough, though as one staffer here at Food & Wine pointed out, there’s a very salient quote from Jurassic Park’s Dr. Ian Malcom that could easily be retorted: “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn’t stop to think if they should.”
The “how” question is answered with two, perhaps surprisingly, natural ingredients. Blue indigo dye and a compound derived from the skin of red grapes called anthocyanin give Gik its mouthwash-y hue. To that end, if you’re looking for a blue wine, this one is certainly blue and certainly a pleasant enough shade of the color. The 11.5 percent ABV beverage is otherwise made from red and white grapes grown mostly in Spain’s La Rioja and Zaragoza regions, and France’s Courthézon region.
Okay, enough backstory: How does it taste?
In the end, the best reason we could surmise to try Gik’s blue wine is, well, because it’s blue. For that novelty alone, it might be worth the price of a bottle.
Gik is available for $16 per bottle by pre-order online.
Spanish Wine: Is Blue The New Red
Five years ago, a group of university students in Spain’s Basque Country decided they wanted to shake up a sector – any sector – but preferably one to do with food or drink.
So Imanol, Inigo, Gorka, Aritz and Taig picked the most traditional of them all and created blue wine, one of several innovations in a deeply conservative industry.
After two years of research at the University of the Basque Country with the help of in-house, professional chemical engineers and an outside centre for food innovation, they launched their company Gik Live! in 2015.
It sold 30,000 bottles in its first year and close to 500,000 in 2017.
The young company now exports to 21 countries, the United States being its main market and wine-loving France its second.
From five rookie entrepreneurs, the company has grown to 12 employees.
We understand that for many people wine is something sacred that mustn’t be changed, says Irish-Basque co-founder Taig Mac Carthy, standing at a bar in the company office in Portugalete, a northern town near Bilbao.
But we like to change things and we’re not afraid to try, he adds, as employees type at their computers in the room next door where a drum kit and guitars stand ready for use in true hipster startup tradition.

In Short Lots Of Producers Make Blue Wine Now
Besides Gïk, there are only a small handful companies thought to be the original few makers of blue wine, all based in Spain. One such producer is Alma Azul and was quickly scooped up by the international market at a time when blue wine was very rare. Now blue wine is popping up everywhere and event the mass produced, grocery store wines are jumping on the blue wine bandwagon. Here are a few blue wines you might find in your market.
Blue Wine Is Now A Thing Because Your Instagram Doesn’t Have Taste Buds Fortunately We Do
Americans went crazy for rainbow bagels and Unicorn Frappuccinos and millennial pink tequila. And given how quickly we flock to the newest hyperpigmented trendy food item – snapping trophy photos for social media, of course – the makers of Gik must be pretty certain they have a hit on their hands. The Spanish-based winemakers will soon begin selling their blue wine in the United States.
It’s really, really blue. Mouthwash blue. Smurf blue – those little guys probably get hammered on this stuff. It’s a blue that you’d think wouldn’t be found in nature, except it is: The wine gets its color from anthocyanin, a pigment found in grape skins, and indigotine, a dye extracted from plants.
Gik hails from Spain, where the company’s co-founders – none of whom had any experience in the wine industry – decided they wanted to create something. They worked with a team of chemical engineers at the University of the Basque Country to develop the wine’s unusual color.
“Thanks to them, we discovered that the best way to create it was to go back to the beginning and merge nature and technology: we mix different varieties of grapes and after that, we use two organic pigments to turn it blue,” Aritz López, one of the wine’s creators, said in an email. “Then, we improve the flavor and make it easy to drink.”

Blue Wine Not A Gag: Apparently Americans Love It
Gik Blue Wine / Facebook.com
October 18, 2018
In 2015, the world was introduced to Gik, Spains first blue wine. Unsurprisingly, the pool-colored product, developed by a group of students at the University of the Basque Country, raised some eyebrows . Critics called Gik a gimmick.
Turns out, Gik is not a gag. The blue wine sold 30,000 bottles in its first year close 500,000 in 2017 and is now exported to 21 countries. Its primary market? The U.S., where it debuted last year. Its second biggest market is France.
We understand that for many people wine is something sacred that mustnt be changed, Taig Mac Carthy, Gik co-founder, told the Local Spain. But we like to change things and were not afraid to try.
Skeptics can have their wine and drink it blue. Blue wine is, allegedly, all-natural. The color comes from two pigments, one thats found in red grape skins, called anthocyanin, and another called indigo carmine. Gik, whose wine is produced at several wineries in Spain, says its color is an industrial secret resulting from a mashup of nature and technology.
Apparently, Bacardi picked up on the trend: its Bombay Sapphire gin brand announced a range of edible paints to enhance the flavor of gin and tonic, the Spirits Business reports. Its debut color? Blue.
Out with the old, in with the blue.

Shaoxing Rice Wine: Where And How To Buy It
Several people have inquired about Shaoxing rice wine, a commonly used Chinese ingredient that I frequently reach for when making Chinese food, including many Asian dumplings. The questions asked include: Where do I buy the rice wine? Where is it stocked in an Asian market? and What is a substitute for it? This post will hopefully answer those questions and more!
What is Shaoxing rice wine? How is Chinese rice wine used?Amber colored, aromatic, and pleasantly nutty tasting, Shaoxing rice wine is the standard spirit in Chinese cooking. Made of brown glutinous rice, it is one of the earliest types of liquors that the Chinese made. Shaoxing rice wine adds an unmistakable flavor and fragrance to dishes, whether it is mixed into Asian dumpling fillings, added to marinades for roasted meats such as char siu pork, combined with seasonings for stir-fries, or simmered with soy sauce and sugar for red-cooked dishes. If youve ever used sake in Japanese cooking, Shaoxing rice wine is employed quite similarly in Chinese cuisine. Sip on some of the rice wine and youll warm up quickly as it contains about 17 to 18% alcohol.
Surprise Shaoxing rice wine is made in Shaoxing, a city located in Zhejiang, a province on the eastern coast of China. Picture Shanghai and Zhejiang province is right below it.
