Today, the winery has three vineyard ranches nestled high in the Mayacamas Mountains, producing powerfully flavorful, concentrated wines that express their unique mountain terroir. This blend has a deep garnet color, a rich nose with ripe black currants, plum, black cherries with hints of chocolate and spices. The palate is loaded with ripe black fruits, fine tannins and good mountain acidity making for a well-balanced, complete and complex wine.

Aia Vecchia Lagone Toscana 2016

Cabernet Franc is the perfect addition that took this blend to the next level. It brightens up the Cab Sauv and adds juiciness that complements the Merlot, giving it an earthiness while not weighing down your palate.

The deep ruby wine has a delicate and complex aroma with notes of cherry, vanilla, and a surprise of beef and herbs. The taste is dry yet structured for an elegant finish that reveals plum, cherries, berries, and some spices.

This versatile drink pairs well as the perfect complement to red meats and white meat dishes or even pasta!

What Is Cabernet Sauvignon History

Cabernet Sauvignon is an offspring of Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc originated in the 17th century.

Its origin was discovered in 1996, at the UC Davis Department of Viticulture and Enology .

It has been popular in the Médoc region in France since the 18th century. 1976 is an important date for Californias wine.

Thats the date on which Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon won the blind taste test in Paris beating a top French wine.

From this day on, Napa Cabernet Sauvignon gained tremendous popularity.

Today Cabernet Sauvignon is the most widely planted grape in the world.

Conn Creek Cabernet Sauvignon

Visited this winery and was pleasantly surprised by the price and taste of their Cabernet. They are not the most well-known winery, and they dont stand out in any way. That might be a good thing because they just concentrate on making good Napa cabs.

This wine is not always found under $30, but we were able to get this bottle under $25. So it may be unfair to have on this list, but if you find the same deal we did GET IT!

Domaine Bousquet Gran Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Origin: Valle de Uco, Mendoza, ArgentinaVarietal: 100% Cabernet SauvignonPrice: $20ABV: 15%

The Bousquet family hails from the city of Carcassonne in the South of France and has four generations of history in the winemaking tradition. A 1990 vacation in Argentina was all it took for winemaker Jean Bousquet to fall in love with the Gualtallary Valley, a scenic, remote, arid terrain high in the Tupungato district of the Uco Valley in Argentinas Mendoza region, close to the border with Chile. There, where the condors fly and without a vine in sight, Jean discovered his dream terroir, an ideal location to nurture organically grown grapes in sandy soil a rarity. Sandy soil makes for elegant wines, its low fertility gives desirable vine stress it is permeable for good drainage and has no salinity issues, often a problem in arid areas. Grapes in this terroir are the last to be harvested, the extra hang time ensures heightened richness and body. The wine shows a deep violet color. The bouquet reveals ripe red and black fruit, candied fruit, pepper and mineral notes. The palate offers more ripe dark fruit, a touch of oak, present but ripe tannins and a long, complex finish.

Matchbook Wines Cabernet Sauvignon

Matchbook is one of my favorite wineries for good value wines from Northern California. I like everything of theirs that Ive tried the Tinto Rey and Arsonist blends, the Tempranillo, the Mossback Pinot Noir, and their Cabernet. This wine bursts with the flavor of cherries in the glass but also has nice hints of chocolate and blueberry. Total yum. Approx. $13.

Falesco Tellus Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

A solid choice for a wine enthusiast looking for a budget price, this 100% estate fruit is an excellent option. It offers blueberry and cranberry aromas with a medium body that’s ready to drink now. The flavors of currant are lovely, while the sweet black plum tastes surprisingly long-lasting.

The moderate climate and high elevation of this winery make for an exciting combination. The ripe black fruits with herbaceous notes complement hearty foods like lamb, steak, or burger.

Top 50 California Cabernet Sauvignons To Try Before You Quit Drinking

In putting together a list of the top California Cabernets, there is sure to be some disagreement. I tried to include those wines that have a track record, the wineries still making great wines, those that seemed to have the commitment for the future and some personal favorites. I am sure I left some out.

Visiting wine country? Why spend $250 per day in tasting fees when you can get the wine pass and pay less then half of that? 1 Day with the wine pass = $125+ in savings. 2 Days with the wine pass = $250+ in savings. The Priority Wine Pass

1. Shafer Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select Its always hard to name the number one wine. But this has a track record thats very long. Even in less than stellar vintages, it is an outstanding wine. They just dont seem to make a dud. My only complaint is the price at over $200 a bottle. But, in comparison to other Napa Cabs or elsewhere in the world, this is a fair price.

2. Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon Estate This has an even longer track record than the Hillside Select. There have been a few bumps along the way, but for the most part, this is consistently a fantastic wine and has been for decades. Made in a style that many have left behind, this needs to be cellared on release. To truly appreciate how good this wine can be it needs at least a decade in a good wine cellar.

Tenuta Sette Cieli Yantra Toscana 2018

The wine came from the winery Tenuta Sette Cieli, or “The Estate of Seven Skies.” The name is derived from the magnificent view atop the tiny estate overlooks Bolgheri and is named for this scenic landscape that can be seen nearly 1300 ft. above sea level.

Their Yantra 2018 is drawn off the high ground in Bolgheri using Bordeaux varietals just like Sassicaia does however, it provides an entirely different experience with its delicate aromas and flavors.

It is also much more price-friendly than its neighbors, whose prices can go as high as three digits.

It has a crowd-pleasing taste that is bursting with juicy hints of black cherries, licorice, red fruits, and spice. This wine’s flavor profile is perfect for the nighttime. You can drink this now or wait it out and let its flavors mature with age.

Dueling Pistols Paso Robles Red Blend 2016

The blending of unexpected varietals and skillful aging makes this wine a masterpiece. Petite Sirah is known as one of the smallest planted grape varieties globally, and its intense tannic structure can be challenging.

This cab acts as a buffer by subduing intense flavors with its smoothness, making for a balance when combined.

The inky purple wine offers a taste of dark fruit and floral notes with hints of spices. It starts sweet, but the tannins on the mid-palate are balanced by the softness that leads to a long and lasting finish. This bottle pairs well with roasted chicken or steak!
