Wines For The Weekend: These Two Whites And Two Reds All Come From Languedoc

Wines for the weekend: Aldis Limoux Chardonnay, Roussanne, Marselan and Fitou Réserve

Apparently, we like big, heavy bottles, as many of us associate them with superior wine. So producers, especially in Spain and North and South America, use them as a marketing tool. The problem is that they arent very environmentally friendly, as they use more glass than a normal bottle and are more costly to ship. Ideally, we should all be buying wine packaged in light glass or plastic, including the kind of of packaging used for bag-in-box wines, but that day is probably a long way off. So I was surprised to find quite a few heavy bottles among Aldis additions to its autumn-winter range. That aside, the line-up includes plenty of very well-priced wines, including this quartet from Languedoc, an area that produces plenty of good inexpensive wines.

Limoux Chardonnay 2020 Chassaux & Fils, 9.99 Limoux, up in the mountains above Carcassonne, is one of the cooler parts of Languedoc and a good source of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and sparkling wine. This is a light, refreshing wine with green-apple fruits, subtle vanilla and a dry finish. It would go nicely with grilled or fried plaice goujons with tartar sauce sounds good.

Torre Del Falco Nero Di Troia Puglia 799

The grape variety might be unfamiliar to you – it’s rarely seen outside the boot heel of Italy – but don’t worry about that, because this is a very fine, unoaked red, with perfume to spare, fine tannins, refreshing cherry and raspberry fruit, and a bright, stony finish. It works well with chicken or lamb dishes.Buy Torre Del Falco Nero Di Troia, Puglia

It Gets Some Pretty Bad Reviews

Best Aldi wines: Tasted and rated

It’s true that lots of people are talking about Aldi’s Winking Owl wine. There’s plenty of chatter on Instagram with the hashtag #winkingowlwine, which is pretty impressive for a company that doesn’t do a lot in terms of marketing and advertising. But unfortunately, not all of that talk is very nice. In fact, a quick Google search on the brand will reveal that there are some people who have some pretty awful things to say about Winking Owl wines.

Comments on the wine rating site Vivino complained that Winking Owl’s red blend was “weak in flavor” and tastes “like water.” As of April 2019, the wine had a dismal ranking of just 2.8 stars out of 5. In a thread about Winking Owl wines, Reddit reviewers described them as “terrible” and “just nasty.” And if that wasn’t enough to completely turn you off, one especially tough post on CellarTracker said the wine tasted like a “wet sponge that was used to clean the sink after pouring it down the drain.”

How To Create A Build

Mimosas are traditionally made with orange juice and Champagne, but you can pair any bubbly with a variety of juices and fruit garnishes. Creating a mimosa bar lets everyone customize their own unique cocktail. And buying everything at ALDI lets you do it affordably.

Heres what you need from ALDI to make this mimosa bar:

  • Belletti prosecco
  • Natures Nectar Orange Juice
  • Other varieties of juice such as Simply Nature Organic 100% Super Fruits Juice and Natures Nectar Cranberry Pomegranate Cocktail
  • Fresh berries and sliced fruit like lemons, limes, and oranges, raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries
  • Champagne flutes or other slim glasses

Mimosas are typically a 1:1 ratio between bubbly and juice. One bottle of Belletti Prosecco will be enough for about six mimosas.

What Is The Best Wine At Aldi

ALDI rated BEST alcohol in the world?

We finally have alcohol at our Aldi starting today! I need to know which wines are the best. TIA

Their $3 wine is pretty good, especially for the price. My favorite though is their Outlander Meritage

I really like the moiselle sparking red! Its super cheap and pretty good!

I personally like the winking owl store brand. Chardonnay is pretty much only what I drink and its not too bad, especially for the cheap price.

The toffee buttermint is good the first glass and nauseating the last. I drank it all in one day though, so YMMV

I’m more of a fan of dryer wines, so make of that what you will. I noticed the Winking Owl brand makes me feel like shit/give me a headache even if I only have 2 glasses. I think there’s a lot of sugar in those. I like the vino fuerte red, which runs about $4.99 where I live. The Belletti prosecco is TERRIFIC and very reasonable. I also think the big bottles are a good value and actually taste surprisingly well. I’m blanking on the names, but I tried the sauvignon blanc last week and it was good. There’s a big bottle of pinot grigio that’s about 11.99 that I also enjoy… I think the name starts with a V? Sorry if this isn’t helpful.

Winking owl isn’t great , BUT WOW, do I miss this stuff. . The box is the greatest deal. We always kept a box of white in our fridge, and could just get a quick sip of wine whenever. I think the box is like $10 or something silly cheap.

Zinfandel By Scarlet Path

From Lodi, California, this affordable and velvety smooth Zinfandel has a pleasant smell of licorice, mint, dark fruit, spice, and just a bit of earthiness.

Youll taste plenty of sweet and juicy fruit, plus a hint of spice. Its smooth and velvety and every mouthful is delicious and full of flavor. This Zinfandel ends with plenty of fruit and just a touch of oaky spice and tobacco.

One item to note for this wine, although it doesnt directly impact the drink itself, it the label. Other wines and vintages have normal paper looking labels. However, this offering from Scarlet Path has a velvet label, which matches how the wine tastes.

Best: Pardon My French Fitou Languedoc

If you’ve never had Fitou, you might want to pick up a bottle of this tasty wine the next time you’re at Aldi. According to , this wine is earthy and full of red fruit flavor, like raspberries and plums, plus, interestingly enough, lavender. Do you like really juicy red wines? This one hits the mark.

Exquisite Collection Sauvignon Blanc

Reverse Wine Snob says that one of the best wines is the Exquisite Collection Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand. According to the bottle, “Marlborough, situated at the northern tip of New Zealand’s South Island, is located in the rain shadow of the spectacular Kaikoura mountain range to the south and to the east. The proximity to the Pacific Ocean, with its cool and moderate temperatures offers the best conditions for fantastic Sauvignon Blancs.” Ultimately, this produces a wine that is fresh and crisp with fruity notes.

The wine’s acidity is well-balanced, and it has notes of tropical fruits as well as green apple. It’s slightly sweet and has a somewhat fruity finish to it as well. The Exquisite Collection Sauvignon Blanc is imported by Mark & Schule Inc. and exclusively sold at Aldi but the best part of all might be that each bottle is only $8.99, a price point that makes it easy to stock up on.

There Are Lots Of Wines To Choose From Under The Label

Pinot Grigio By Giretto

Imported by Broadland Wineries, this Pino Grigio by Giretto comes from Delle Venezie, Italy. This wine starts off with a delectable aroma of melon, citrus, pear, and a bit of nuttiness.

Tasting this delicious wine will surprise you with its depth. One sip is full of lots of green apple, tropical fruit, and lime. In short, this is a very tasty Pinot Grigio. This is a fairly dry offering, despite its abundance of sweet-tasting fruits. You typically wont find this type of Pinot Grigio available at this price point.

Youll notice a hint of mineral which goes well with a dry, crisp finish. This Pinot Grigio is great for when you want to spend some time on the front porch and people watch. However, its also great when you need a wine for your salad or seafood.

Some of the biggest criticisms about less-expensive Pinot Grigios are that they are watered down or too sweet. This wine does a great job of avoiding both of these problems, which makes it a steal at its low Aldi price point.
