Tip : Ladies Find A Middle Ground

For the ladies out there who are worried about being over or underdressed, strike a balance! A blouse and blue jeans with wedges can look modern and effortless. A dress with a jean jacket and cowboy boots can look country chic. Use your style to express yourself, knowing that youll likely be indoors and out and in a variety of settings during a day of wine tasting. If youre still a little unsure, try bringing a different pair or shoes, a scarf, or fancier earrings along with you. That way, you can dress up or down depending on how you feel once you reach your destination. Of course, if you plan to follow your wine tasting experience by going straight to a fancy Michelin-starred restaurant, youll want to wear something that can be dressed up.

Wine Tasting Outfits For Summer

Oh boy, summer in wine country can get hot hot hot. On top of a top-notch deodorant, I always reach for sunglasses, sun hats, straw hats, flowy dresses, and linen jumpsuits. I like to channel Greek island vibes sometimes big dresses that billow in the wind and help cool me off while still looking effortless.

Summer is when the vines will be covered in green leaves and purple grapes. If youre trying to take that classic photo walk through vines, this is the month to do it! Pure white will probably glare too much in the bright sunlight, so opt for either cream, or a bold print.

While there are seldom formal dress codes in Wine Country, we have some tried and true tips that will ensure youre prepared well before you start packing.

When In Doubt Go With A Simple Outfit

Honestly, wine tasting is literally just fancy day drinking. Youll be tired and a wee bit drunk after a long day of sipping wines. Skip the button-up romper that is hard to take on and off, or the wrap dress that likes to blow around and instead just wear something simple and/or hassle-free.

Now time for some major style inspiration!

What To Pack For A Summer Weekend In Napa:

Summer in Napa. Are there three better words in the English language!? Napas high season is Summertime- and for good reason. Its GORGEOUS in Napa in the Summer, the vines are blooming, the skies are blue, and the weather is usually hot-hot-hot.

My general Napa weekend packing list is: A wine tasting outfit for each day youre there, a nighttime dinner outfit to change into after tasting, shoes to go with each outfit, a workout outfit if you plan on exercising, and a travel outfit for the way there/back to Napa. Heres what I love to wear in the Summertime.

Wear A Crossbody Purse

Youll be holding a wine glass and will need your hands free to open doors or take photos with your phone. Skip your Cult Gia bag and trust me when I say youll be grateful for a small hassle-free purse like this one. Make sure it has an easy open top for you to reach in and out of as again, you dont have two hands to open a zipper or complicated button.

What To Wear In Napa In The Spring:

Its also Mustard season in February/March which is just GORGEOUS its when all the mustard seed flowers bloom over the vineyards, its like a yellow version of the Lavender Fields in France. Wine Country Outfit Idea

What I Wear to Wine Country

For wine country, in the spring and summer, I love to pack lots of dresses. Flowy, comfortable dresses allow you to sit and enjoy wine without worrying about your pants getting too tight. Because, hello bloat, right? I always pack a denim jacket for a good light layer or even a lightweight sweater or cardigan. And as for shoes, keep them simple and low. Theres no need for high heels. In fact, I prefer a good block heel in case you end up heading into the vineyards to do a little exploring. You wont want a heel digging into the ground. Sneakers or converse are also a good call and work well with jeans too.

A few other notable items to pack are a swimsuit just in case, sunscreen and of course sunglasses. I also love to pack this setting powder with SPF. Its great to keep in your bag so you can easily add SPF to your full face of makeup.

How Do I Select My Winery Outfits

Whether youre enjoying a romantic weekend, reuniting with a group of girlfriends, or attending a winery wedding, dressing for the winery is usually a no fuss affair. Here are a few guidelines to get you started:

  • Dark colors are a great go-to for winery attire . We like to coordinate black separates with a colorful shawl or accessory.

  • Practical shoes are essential. Essentially, youre visiting a farm, so high heels and shoes that cant tolerate a bit of mud just arent a good idea. Aim for practical but stylish boots.

  • Plan for rain with an umbrella and a raincoat. It could be a chilly 55 degrees or lower, so youll also want layers for that damp cold.

  • Plan for sun with sunglasses, a practical sun hat, and sunscreen.

  • Avoid excessive jewelry, floppy hats, or flowy clothes that can catch on vines or wine barrels.

  • Dark-colored separates are ideal, as they will transition nicely from winery to an upscale restaurant, in the event that youre dining out after your wine tasting.

Now that you have a general guide to winery attire, here are a few of our favorite items to fill the gaps in your winery wardrobe.

What Is Wine Country Casual Attire

Wine country casual is a very vague term that frustrates some and inspires others to create their own definition of wine country fashion. For women, wine country casual means sundresses or a cute dress top and dress shorts or capris. Fancy jeans can even work. Shoes can range from boots and sandals to flats and stylish sneakers. For men, that means a short-sleeved dress shirt, golf shirt or designer tee shirt with dress shorts, casual pants or dressy jeans. Casual dress shoes or stylish sneakers. During the evening, if youre going to a fancy restaurant like French Laundry or SingleThread, ladies will probably want to wear a dress or dress slacks , but you could easily wear jeans and a nice top to Barndiva, Valette, Chalkboard or Spoonbar in Healdsburg.

What wine country casual is not: gym shorts, cut-off Jean shorts, or sports t-shirts. If youre going to brewery for dinner, feel free to don those duds. High heelsregardless of how fabulous they look are iffy. Feel free to pack those kicks if youre only walking from the Uber to your table at the restaurant.

People do, however, tend to dress up a little more than wine country casual at night if theyre going to dinner at a white-tablecloth restaurant like Dry Creek Kitchen or Farmhouse Inn, but for most places, the same style of wine country casual works for day or nightjust dont forget the sweater or jacket.

What To Wear To A Wine Tasting: Womens Fashion Photos

Below are some examples of typical clothes women wear to a wine tasting. Some wineries are more formal with seated tastings, like Jordan Winery, while others are more casual, such as Gundlach Bundschu, which has outdoor concerts and vineyard tours in a vintage military vehicle. Be sure to dress accordingly based upon the tasting description.

What To Wear To A Winery In The Spring

The weather in Napa during the springtime ranges from the high 60s to low 70s during the day and mid to upper 40s in the morning and evening.

Napa Valley in May is chilly in the mornings and evenings, but the daytime temperature is perfect. Perfect to me is the 70s, so if you like it a little warmer during the day, I would recommend waiting until last spring or early summer to visit Napa Valley.

In the spring pack more sweaters than you expect. Keep the sweaters handy in your car if you dont plan on going back to the hotel before going to dinner. Its also useful to keep them in the car when the tasting room is too cold or if you want to enjoy a glass of wine outside in the winery patio and its too breezy.

Chic Wine Country Fashion

This is the one that befuddles wine-goers the most. Chic is defined as elegantly and stylishly fashionable, so this style falls somewhere in between casual and formal. It is the perfect opportunity to spruce up without donning cocktail attire, but feel free to dress the look up or down a bit to fit your taste.

A not-so-dressy dress or a pantsuit that is both breathable and comfy are good pieces to invest in. If you are headed to an evening outdoor wedding, rehearsal dinner, or upscale daytime wedding, this is the perfect level of style. Plus, its the excuse youve needed to sport those statement earrings you have been dying to wear! Its wine country fashion at its finest.
