How Is Pinot Noir Made
Pinot Noir grapes are usually harvested at night or in the early morning to keep the finicky grapes fresh. Harvesting at night provides for cooler temperatures, delaying inevitable fermentation and allowing for more control in the winemaking process.
After they are harvested and de-stemmed, they are placed in stainless-steel tanks.
Sometimes, the grapes are given a cool soak before fermentation to help achieve a wine with a deeper color and smoother tannins. Then, a crusher is used to release the juice from the grapes, and the juice and skins are left to ferment. Pinot Noir grapes are often fermented at lower temperatures to help retain their aromas, and sometimes they are stirred, punched down or pumped over during fermentation to once again develop richer color and smoother tannins.
After fermentation, the juice of the wine is separated from the skins and seeds and is placed into barrels, usually made from French Oak, for nine to twelve months before bottling. During that time, the oak barrels give Pinot Noir some of its unique flavors.

Pinot Grigio Vs Pinot Noir Flavor Comparisons
When it comes to Pinot Grigio vs Pinot Noir flavors, the most notable differences are the fruit notes in the wines.
Pinot Grigio, being a white wine, tends to display more subtle fruit flavors of apple, lemon, and pear, as well as a touch of spice.
Pinot Noir, being a red wine, tends to display more savory aromas and red fruit flavors of cherry, strawberry, raspberry, and plum.
Of course, the final wine will not only be representative of the grape variety but also of the climate where it was grown and the winemaker who crafts it.

Why Pinot Noir May Be The Best Wine For Your Health
Glass of red wine and electrocardiogram
The benefits of drinking red wine have long been debated. Numerous studies have suggested that there is a link between moderate red wine consumption and heart health, but the issue has yet to be definitively settled.
According to the Mayo Clinic:
Red wine, in moderation, has long been thought of as heart healthy. The alcohol and certain substances in red wine called antioxidants may help prevent coronary artery disease, the condition that leads to heart attacks. Any links between red wine and fewer heart attacks, aren’t completely understood.
The health benefits associated with drinking red wines are mainly associated with a powerful antioxidant called resveratrol. The Mayo Clinic has suggested that:
Resveratrol might help prevent damage to blood vessels, reduce low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and prevent blood clots.
It also notes, however, that other studies found no benefits from resveratrol in preventing heart disease and that more research is needed.
Before you rush off to buy another bottle of your favorite red wine, however, you should note that the level of resveratrol in red wines can vary widely.

Key Producers Brands And Buying Tips
Due to the stringent growing requirements for pinot noir, it is produced in much smaller quantities than other popular red wines, making it a bit pricier. That being said, pinot noirs are still easy to find in wine stores and even supermarkets at a range of prices. The quality of wine tends to be better if you’re willing to spend over $20. Look for long-standing vineyards from Burgundy, northern California, Oregon, and New Zealand. If you can’t find pinot noir, look for a smooth and balanced merlot.

The palate shows lively primary red fruits, supported with a hint of stalk influence giving a linear structure that is long and defined.

Escarpment Pinot Noir Te Rehua Martinborough Nz
At the southern end of New Zealand’s North Island, in the Wairarapa region, the Pinots from just around the town of Martinborough are fast becoming critical darlings. The area shares similarities to Marlboroughample sunshine, cool nights, rocky, well-draining soilsmaking it a hotbed for Point, but there’s something terrifically refined about the Pinots from here. They’re perhaps less flashy and opulent as those from Marlborough, and Escarpment’s founder, Larry McKenna, is a pioneer of the region. The grapes for Te Rehua are hand-harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts, gentle pressing into partial new French oak barriques for 18 months, bottled unfiltered, giving way to a mouth-filling and firmly structured wine, layered with creamy black cherry, sandalwood, wild sage, and cracked pepper.

Best New Zealand: Seresin Leah Pinot Noir
Region: Marlborough, New Zealand | ABV: 14% | Tasting Notes: Wild berries, Plums, Black tea
Founded by Wellington native Michael Seresin, this eponymous New Zealand domaine focuses on organic and biodynamic farming, hand-picked fruit, and gentle winemaking. After spending much of his early life in Italyand falling in love with its food and wine cultureSeresin returned to his native New Zealand, settled in Marlborough, and established his winery in 1996.
Leah Pinot Noir is named for Seresins daughter. The majority of the fruit for this wine comes from clay-rich soils in the Omaka Valley and was hand-picked, destemmed, and macerated prior to native yeast fermentation. After 11 months of aging in neutral French oak, the wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered. Energetic flavors of ripe wild berries, plums, and black tea harmoniously weave together on the palate and lead to a spicy, mouth-filling finish.

How To Serve Pinot Noir
As with all wines, temperature is crucial. A wine served too warm will seem out of balance, with the alcohol too hot. If too cold, the aromas and flavors are muted. Fuller, bolder styles of Pinot Noir are best at 65°F, while lighter styles are ideal from 55-60°F. As for Rosé and sparkling wines made from Pinot, serve at 50°F for the former and 40-45°F for the latter. If you dont finish the bottle, re-cork it and place it in the refrigerator. It should stay nicely drinkable for 1-3 days. As for glassware, a classic red burgundy glass with a thin rim is perfect. These have a large bowl and taper towards the top.

Best Pinot Noir Under : Mas Cavalls Dona Margarita Vineyard Marimar Estate 2017
Hailing from the Californian property of respected Spanish wine giant Torres, this was 2021s highest scoring Pinot Noir under £50. Taking its name from the Catalan for a horse farm or stud, the Mas Cavalls Pinot is certainly a thoroughbred red, with power and grace, and it proves why cooler areas of Sonoma are ideally suited to this pernickety grape. Its a particularly seductive style of Pinot, with ripe, juicy red berry fruit, from dark cherry to plums, vanilla-cream oak flavours, then some crisp cranberry, and plenty of fine dry tannins to make ones mouth water. This rich and refreshing Pinot is wonderfully indulgent, and usefully versatile when it comes to food matching too.

All About This Red Wine’s Flavor Pairings And Labels
Pinot noir is a type of wine grape and a style of red wine that is typically light to medium-bodied, fruit-forward, and relatively low alcohol compared to other red wines. Hyde Vineyard Pinot Noir
UK retail price: £75
Using Pinot Noir from this hugely sought-after site in the Napa Valley the Hyde Vineyard is this exceptional wine from Patz & Hall. Loaded with fleshy dark cherry, ripe strawberry, sweet blood orange, and some tomato, chocolate and vanilla, its a big, layered Pinot, but, with plenty of bright acidity and fine-grained dry tannin, its also a wonderfully mouthwatering wine.
Why Should You Drink Pinot Noir Wine
Depending on where it’s grown and how it’s produced, Pinot Noir can either be bright, fruit-froward, and perfect for everyday sipping, or capable of aging for decades. In addition to its use in rosé and Champagne , red Pinot Noir can be found in a wide range of styles and at price points across the spectrum. In general, however, good Pinot Noir costs a bit more than its Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah counterparts, often as a result of the challenges it poses in the vineyard. Across the board, Pinot Noir’s higher acidity and more moderate tannins make it both well-suited to drinking on its own and to pairing with a range of foods.
Indeed, Pinot Noir is one of the wines that disproves the old adage that red wine pairs best with meat. A nice bottle of Pinot Noir, after all, is fantastic alongside salmon, whose meaty texture works well with the weight of a red, yet isn’t overwhelmed by the wine itself. Pinot Noir is also great with mushrooms and game meats. Pinot and duck is a classic pairing, and pork tenderloin alongside a great Pinot will lift any dinner to the stratosphere.
