    Screaming Eagle Cabernet 1992$500000

The most expensive red wine still belongs to this vintage, a surprisingly young wine, a six-liter bottle of Cabernet from Napa Valley. The wine arguably won by technicality when it fetched for charity the record-smashing price at the Napa Valley Wine Auction in 2000.

Still, this bottle is for keeps and now worth its price for topping many most expensive wine lists over the years and gaining the worlds attention in the process. The region, the most prestigious in the New World, is famous for Napa Cab, a rich, oak-aged aroma range laced with blackcurrant, liquorice, vanilla, boysenberry and smoky dark chocolate.

    Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon 1992

The most expensive wine ever sold is the exception to the dated rule of rare wine, as it was not even a decade old at the time of purchase the six liter Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon 1992 bottle sold for a whopping half a million bucks in 2000 at a Napa Valley charity auction! It was only available for a limited time in 1995, and apparently was the cats meow, at least to one wine connoisseur out there, because it is rumored Chase Bailey, a former Cisco Systems executive, picked this up, though we have an asterisk* here , because the $500K bottle was knocked down a bit in price because it was a charity sale, although it could still have sold for more than any other wine in history.

Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon 1992 $500000

Trust the Americans to get the best of the deals. For the most expensive bottle of wine to have been sold till date was made not in Italy or France, but urm, in America Oakville, California to be precise. Thanks to the rarity and the small quantities of wine produced from here, the wine has achieved cult status. A bottle of Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon 1992, described as âspectacularâ, managed to fetch the unbelievable price of $500,000 for a charity auction in 2000. Unfiltered and unfined while bottling, this wine is aged in 60% new oak and is opaque purple in color. It has an aroma of jammy blackcurrants, and there are subtle traces of oak in it.

    Grape Variety: Cabernet Franc

What Is It About? The Guado a Tasso estate is located approximately 50 miles to the southwest of the city of Florence near the medieval hamlet of Bolgheri. The property, with an overall surface area of some 2500 acres , extends from the Tyrrhenian sea to the inland hills and cultivates, in addition to its 750 acres of vineyards, wheat, corn, sunflowers, and olives. The vineyards are located between 150 and 200 feet above sea level on rocky and slightly calcareous soils. The first vintage of Guado al Tasso was the 1990.

The crop was picked entirely by hand into 15 kilogram packing cases and was then brought to the cellars where it was sorted and selected twice, once before and once after destemming. The grapes were then given a soft pressing and a cold five day maceration on their skins at 50° Fahrenheit in stainless steel tanks. Fermentation was then allowed to begin and temperatures to rise to 77° Fahrenheit skin contact lasted a total of 30 days, well beyond the transformation of sugars into alcohol. After fermentation the wine went into 100% new 60 gallon French oak barrels of various provenance, where it completed its malolactic fermentation by the end of the year. The period of oak aging lasted 18 months, and during this period each individual barrel was carefully observed and controlled. At the end of the aging period it was decided to bottle only those barrels whose wine showed a superior integration with the oak.

In Particular The Bordeaux Region Of France Is The Most Famous Of The Wine Producing Regions Particularly For Their Gorgeous Reds

For centuries, the French have been known as the greatest wine producers in the world. They wrote the book on vinification and were the ones who even named the varietals. Weve always looked to the French for the fundamentals of producing a great wine, even here in the United States.

In particular, the Bordeaux region of France is the most famous of the wine producing regions, particularly for their gorgeous reds. This is unique because most wines refer to the grape, rather than the wine itself, although a Bordeaux blend will always imply the wine is made from a combination of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petite Verdot grapes.

Although many places, including California, produce what they call Bordeaux red blends, but a true Bordeaux can only come from that specific region in France. Its because of this exclusivity that we werent surprised at how expensive some of them are!

Coming in at a whopping six grand and 100 points from Wine Enthusiast, the Chateau Petrus 2005 Pomerol is a stunning red blend that is worth every pretty penny. Its one of the prized vintages from this established chateau, and the beautiful flavors of black figs, dark chocolate and plums will bring you so much joy. $6000

Next on the list is the Chateau Latour 2009 Pauillac. In true Bordeaux blend style, this gorgeous red brings you a mix of plum and berry flavors that is fruity and spicy which gently balances the acidity. You can enjoy it too for just $2300!

  • Worlds Most Expensive Wine: How Much Would One Bottle Cost You

These are the MOST EXPENSIVE wines in the world? Burgundy, France

It is not uncommon to come across a $1,000 bottle of wine every now and then. However, shocking as it may be, such a bottle would probably not even make the top 20 list when it comes to the most expensive wine in the world. Some of the priciest wines are more of collectors items and can carry price tags going up to hundreds of thousands of dollars. These prices are often the results of quality, rarity, and the fascinating stories behind the bottles.

What’s the most expensive wine in the world, and what makes it so pricey? Here is a look at the ten most unbelievably pricey wines.

    Ampoule From Penfolds $168000

Each one of these extraordinary bottles of wine costs $168,000.

Released by South Australias most famous winery, Penfolds, the wine does not have much of history, instead, it relies on the experience, presentation and reputation of the brand.

Tasting the wine is meant to be an experience in itself, as you have to break off a small piece of wood before you even begin to get to the wine.

    Champagne Heidsieck 1907 189750

One of the most expensive Champagne sales ever recorded was from a consignment of Heidsieck 1907 rescued in 1998 from a ship which was torpedoed during WW1. It achieved £189,750 at auction.

An online publication ranked the ten most expensive Champagnes in 2019 earlier this year and the top five of these featured a bottle which may have been described as all style and no substance as the 18-carat gold embellished label adorned with a 19 carat diamond raised the overall value to US$2.07M, from US$299 for a standard bottle. Wines made by Armand de Brignac, owned by probably the worlds most famous rap artist, Jay Z made the ranking. A 30-litre of their 2013 Rose sold for US$275,000 and a 15 litre 2011 for US$90,000.

In terms of Champagne more recognised for investment purposes, Dom Perignon Rose 1996 led the way. Only 35 of these were produced and should you be lucky enough to get hold of one you can expect to hand over US$49,000.

These wines are the record-breakers that attract media attention worldwide. When it comes to your wine investment you dont have to invest six or even five figure sums to see good returns from investing in fine wine and a portfolio can be started with a case of a blue-chip Bordeaux such as Chateau Lafite Rothschild for as little as circa £3,000.

Most Expensive Portuguese Red Wine Goes On Sale

Following its June debut, Herdade do Rocim Jupiter Code 01 2015 became Portugals most expensive wine. To shatter a glass ceiling is one thing, but it takes chutzpah to launch a wine at £1,000. This is almost double the price of Casa Ferreirinha Barca Velha, Portugals longstanding icon from the Douro, the countrys most prestigious region.

From Alentejos Vidigueira sub-region deep in the south, Jupiter could not be more different. One might expect a fuller-bodied, opulent red. However, Jupiter was fermented and aged for 48 months in talha . Hardly a classical élevage, talhas have made rustic wines for centuries. Released in the year of production, talha wines were traditionally made for early consumption direct from the talha.

Remarkably fresh, despite its long journey in talha, Jupiter is vivid in hue and fruit. Pure and slinky, exceptionally sophisticated, it is the first of nine releases from the Wines From Another World collection. Named after different planets and sourced from different regions worldwide, a portion of each wine will be held back for future release at every launch, including the final box-set of all nine.

Portuguese co-founder, Cláudio Martins, explained the aim of the project. It is going back to the roots of wine, using foundational methods to bring ancient flavours back into a modern world creating something completely unique and extraordinary that the industry has never seen before, he said.
