Silver Oak Napa Valley
Silver Oak was started in 1972 with a simple driving philosophy – to focus production on only one varietal, Cabernet Sauvignon. What’s more, they resolved to create a wine with a style all its own: not another hard, tannic red wine requiring years of aging to enjoy, but a wine of fully developed flavors and a velvety soft texture on the day it is released for sale.
Silver Oak produces Cabernet Sauvignon from two appellations. Their Napa Valley derives its fruit from both owned and contracted vineyards, and is produced entirely at their Oakville winery. Beginning in 1994, small amounts of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot have been included in their Napa blend to add complexity and softness.
Silver Oak also produces stellar Cabernet from their Alexander Valley vineyards. A critical reason for the success of this wine, and every wine they make, has always been that they create the final blend before aging it in American oak barrels and then bottles. Over the course of four-and-a-half years, the wines flavors, aromas, and textures have an opportunity to meld with one another and the woods delicate qualities to create the kind of graceful cohesion found only in the world’s most elegant wines.

Wine lovers have counted Silver Oaks Napa Valley Cab as one of Californias bar-setting reds for nearly 50 yearsyet none of those vintages has been better than 2016.
A hot summer relented in August, when cool temperatures allowed Cabernet to hang longer and slowly ripen to perfection. Before the wines were even in barrel, winemakers and critics were hailing 2016 as a landmark year for Napa Valley. And when it was all said and done, Robert Parkers Wine Advocate deemed the 2016 vintage as perfect as any in Napa history, awarding it a rare 98 points.
Incredibly rich and perfectly integrated, the 2016 is overflowing with aromas of blackberry, currant, chocolate, and crème caramel, supported by hints of earth, allspice, violets, and sweet tobacco. Its supremely velvety, seamless, and smooth, with captivating notes of plum and blackberry supported by exotic spices, toasted coconut, and allspice.
Silver Oak has helped drive American interest in fine wine since the 1970sa fact that can explain their ascent, but doesnt scratch the surface of what has kept them at the top for nearly 50 years. In fact, their impeccable quality seems to be on cruise control only because of a restless desire to improve.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in color, 2016 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is an opulent wine with notes of cassis, ripe raspberry, toasted coconut and shiitake mushroom. This wine has a rich entry, depth through the mid-palate, great structure without being heavy and exceptional length on the finish. Fresh cherry flavors balanced with floral notes and a subtle hint of black pepper add a beautiful complexity. Plush tannins lend to its ageworthiness. Given proper cellaring conditions, this wine will show beautifully through 2040.
Blending and Aging
2016 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is comprised of 78.9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 3.5% Cabernet Franc, 2.3% Petit Verdot and 0.3% Malbec. In early 2017, the final blend was transferred to American oak barrels from our cooperage, The Oak, where it aged for 24 months. Of these barrels, 84% were new, providing a layered expression of bay leaf, coconut and vanilla to our wine. Blending before barrel aginga signature of our winemaking styleallows blends to be based on the inherent qualities of their vineyard components before oak influence. Vintage to vintage, the resulting Cabernets emerge integrated and ready to drink upon release.

Silver Oaks storied reputation across decades is a testament to its ability to remain focused, while evolving with the times. While many wineries try to expand their portfolios once they become successful, Silver Oak only produces two wine labels each year. This focus has allowed it to continue producing critically-acclaimed wines with an enthusiastic following, year after year.
While the distinctive profile of Silver Oaks wines may not have altered much over the years, its winemaking certainly has. Silver Oak is continually working to increase the sustainability of its winemaking. Its facilities are all LEED Platinum-certified, powered by solar energy and recycled water. And its vineyards are certified by the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance.

Cellar for up to 30 years. Decant 2 hours before serving. The story of Silver Oak began in the 1970s with two friends, Ray Duncan and winemaker Justin Meyer. From the very beginning the duo had a vision to only make the finest quality Cabernet Sauvignon, producing their first vintage in 1972 at the Christian Brothers Winery in exchange for Zinfandel grapes growing on the Silver Oak estate.
Our 2017 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is ruby in color with notes of blackberry, blueberry, roasted coffee beans, coriander and a hint of nutmeg. Smooth upon entry, this wine is broad and plush on the mid-palate. It has an elegant density throughout and a long, generous finish. Given proper cellaring conditions, this wine will show beautifully through 2041.
