A Great Entry To The World Of Gibson

I bought my studio as a demo, full disclosure. My particular one was noted as having scratches. Honestly, I couldn’t tell. I trust that Sweetwater has a much more thorough process for evaluating the guitars than I do. So don’t be afraid of the “demo” items. On to the guitar: I would characterize this as a great workhorse guitar. It doesn’t have many of the fancier items that more expensive LP’s do. But it has the essentials. I really like the 498/490 combo. The 498 bridge is on the hotter side, but not screaming. Definitely rooted in PAF tones but modern voiced. Can definitely do metal, but cleans up nicely too. The neck is a great compliment to it and has warm, fat tones. Sounds great clean and handles delay, reverb and modulation effects well. I haven’t had any problems per se, but I have noticed that the neck moves a bit more than I expected. I am in a very humid climate, however, and this could just be my particular example. I don’t think it detracts from the guitar, it’s just something to be mindful of and it needs adjustment a little more often than my other guitars. I would recommend this if you’re looking to get into the world of Gibson. As always with a guitar, your mileage may vary. But I enjoy mine!

The Les Paul Studio has been a cornerstone of the Gibson catalogue since 1983. A more streamlined version of their flagship Standard model, the Gibson USA Les Paul Studio still provides that iconic LP sound but at a more affordable price-point.

Construction

The Les Paul Studio boasts Gibsons favoured tonewood combinations to give you that unmistakable feel and tone. With a Mahogany body, you can expect thick lows and a lively mid-range, with the Maple top adding some fizzy top-end. Weight-relieved using Gibsons ultra-modern method, this thorough chambering process gives the guitar more resonance and a wider frequency response.

The Studios body is joined with a set Mahogany neck, and it is this pairing of woods that gives the Les Paul its renowned never-ending sustain. Adorned with a silky smooth Rosewood fingerboard, you can effortlessly glide up and down the neck, especially with the modern Slim Taper neck profile.

Electronics

The Les Paul is famous for sporting a double-dose of humbuckers, and the Gibson USA Les Paul Studio is no exception. In the bridge position youll find the 498T, a powerful high-output pickup that boasts a potent upper mid-range and saturates beautifully with overdrive. The 490R neck humbucker is tamer, with a more vintage character akin to that of a traditional PAF.

Classic Mahogany/maple Body Is Weight Relieved For Comfort

You cant deny two fundamental guitar truths: that early Les Pauls were glorious, and they were also heavy. Thats the tradeoff of strapping a solid slab of mahogany to your body. But Gibson has done something special with the modern Les Paul Studios Ultra-modern weight-relieved body. It retains the chime and resonance of slab Les Pauls at a big reduction in weight. This just means you can enjoy yourself onstage for longer, and drag yourself out of bed more easily the next day, when youre playing the Gibson Les Paul Studio.

Versions 1 2 And 3 Of Burst History

This limited-edition 60th Anniversary model celebrates the iconic 1960 Les Paul Standard, which has shaped music across genres for six decades. The artisans at Gibson Custom Shop have proudly recreated the experience of owning a priceless original thanks to painstaking attention to detail and tireless study of vintage examples, closely following the three distinct versions seen within 1960. Those made in the first third of the year had the same specs as 1959 models, while the middle third had thinner neck profiles, different knobs and brighter colors. The final third featured even thinner neck profiles. Each version is available within this historic limited run of instruments, inspiring players in different ways. Included is a 60th Anniversary switch plate, a commemorative Certificate of Authenticity booklet and a vintage replica hardshell case.

The Gibson Les Paul Studio offers the player a more accessible and versatile Les Paul playing experience, taking the precedent set by the Les Paul Standard and improving on it. Some comments from people who come to the forum about this model:

Yet it only gets 4 as I did receive it with some small scratches on the end of the fretboard as well as in one corner of the corpus. The ones on the corpus can be seen easily, and I am wondering how the guitar still passed both visual QC check of Epiphone as well as Thomann before shipping. They are no deep scraches, I am confident that I can remove the ones on the corpus. The guitar just feels right, I decided to not have it exchanged. But, for an instrument in this price class damages like this still shouldnt be acceptable.

Got in touch with Thomann, they handled my complaint well and swift, and we worked it out. Thumbs up on the customer service!
