The Cost Of Wine Tasting

The price of wine tasting in Napa Valley varies from one winery to another. For a simple tasting, it can cost around $10 to $50 per person. Some fees can even be waived when you purchase a bottle after the tasting. If you want to elevate the wine tasting experience with food pairing or a complete winery tour, the cost will eventually rise to around $75 to $150 or higher per person. On the other hand, if you want to be part of an exclusive club, there is also the option of obtaining a wine club membership where wineries give discounts on wine tasting experiences to its members and be the first to know about a winerys new releases.

Wineries have different approaches to give a great wine tasting experience to its guests so its best to read up on what they have in store before visiting Napa Valley. It is highly suggested to look up different wineries so that you will have an idea whether you need to get reservations. Take, for example, Fantesca Estate & Winery in St. Helena wherein you need to request an appointment first before you can enjoy a private wine tasting experience for $150. The cost can also be refunded if you purchase a bottle. You can also join their mailing list to get first-hand updates and discounts.

What To Wear To A Winery In The Spring

The weather in Napa during the springtime ranges from the high 60s to low 70s during the day and mid to upper 40s in the morning and evening.

Napa Valley in May is chilly in the mornings and evenings, but the daytime temperature is perfect. Perfect to me is the 70s, so if you like it a little warmer during the day, I would recommend waiting until last spring or early summer to visit Napa Valley.

In the spring pack more sweaters than you expect. Keep the sweaters handy in your car if you dont plan on going back to the hotel before going to dinner. Its also useful to keep them in the car when the tasting room is too cold or if you want to enjoy a glass of wine outside in the winery patio and its too breezy.

The Best Wineries That You Love To Drink At Home To Go Taste At While Youre In Town

Caymus Vineyards Great wines! Some of my favorite in Napa. And a absolute picturesque outdoor tasting area. I love their pinot noir and their chardonnay.

Cakebread Wines

I love Cakebreads chardonnay and cabernets, so wine tasting here is always great. Its a quick tasting, and located right off of Highway 29, making it an easy stop in a busy wine tasting day. Its a little commercial feeling compared to some of the smaller, more family-run wineries, but I LOVE their wine and patio so beautiful in the summertime!

Rombauer My go-to chardonnay. I always come home with at least a few bottles from here. Its a great spot for a casual, pop in tasting. But keep in mind this is more of a commercial feeling winery since they have gotten SO popular in recent years, so if youre expecting that mom-and-pop winery feeling, you should choose elsewhere. But if you love their wine like me and want to check it out, I highly recommend!

Joseph Phelps Winery Youve probably heard of Joseph Phelps famed Insignia label an insanely good cabernet sauvignon that is worth the trip to this winery alone. Add in a cozy lodge-like tasting room and a terrace like this?! This one is a must do.

Twomey located in Healdsburg and also in Calistoga, this is one of my go-tos for a casual drop-in tasting in the valley. Twomey is by the same label as Silver Oak, and their pinots are so good and I always end up walking out with a few bottles.

What Wineries To Visit In Napa Valley

My mom planned the most amazing day for me and my friend Chelsea. I absolutely fell in love with the Napa Valley experience. In fact, we decided to make this an annual Girls Trip for us. Below are the three wineries we visited, but there are over 700 wineries in Napa Valley, hence the need for an annual visit.

The tram was beyond charming. When you look down youre treated to a beautiful pond and a herd of sheep. Once you arrive at the main building, the wine is so-so, but the views are awesome. You also get to learn a lot about the history and explore the inner workings of production.

Mumm was my favorite. You get three tasting glasses of bubbles, a rich ambiance with a modern farm feel, a healthy amount of guests, and a stunning view of their vines. The experience was light and refreshing, just like their wine.

Fun Fact: Around closing time , they have to empty all their tasting bottles, so we got another full glass of the free of charge .

When In Doubt Go With A Simple Outfit

Honestly, wine tasting is literally just fancy day drinking. Youll be tired and a wee bit drunk after a long day of sipping wines. Skip the button-up romper that is hard to take on and off, or the wrap dress that likes to blow around and instead just wear something simple and/or hassle-free.

Now time for some major style inspiration!

Is There A Wine Tasting Dress Code

Napa Valley On A Budget: How To Wine Taste For Free & More ...

If youre trying to decide what to wear on a wine tasting adventure especially if its your first time youre probably wondering if there are any strict rules you should follow. While theres typically no agreed-upon dress code for tasting rooms and wineries, there are some unspoken rules we definitely recommend following.

Here are some tried and true guidelines for what to wear to a winery:

  • Skip the heavy fragrance: A big part of wine tasting is experiencing all the unique aromas, so keep the perfume and cologne to a minimum, for your own benefit and to be polite to other tasters.
  • Bring chapstick : Drinking wine all afternoon can make your lips dry and chapped, especially if youre outside, so bring some moisturizing chapstick with you and skip the lipstick after all, no one wants to leave lipstick marks all over their glass at a wine tasting.
  • Avoid wearing white IF you tend to spill: Its a myth that you should never wear white in a tasting room, but its a good idea to wear darker colors or prints if you think you might spill.
  • Wear layers, regardless of the season: While the season will dictate what layers you wear , layers are always the way to go they add class and style to your outfit and allow you to move between the tasting room, patio, and vineyards comfortably.

Farm To Table Restaurants In Napa Valley

Why does everyone rave about the restaurants in Napa? It is because Napa Valley is big on farm-to-table. If you are unfamiliar with the term, farm to table is when the food served at the restaurant comes directly from a local farm. The restaurant will only cook with fresh and locally grown ingredients, which also includes their meat as well. They will source their meat directly from a farm, rather than a distribution company.

Plan A Few Wine Tastings But Also Leave Some Free Time

Another of my Napa Vally wine tasting tips is to not make more than three appointments in a day. My preference is to schedule one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Generally, wineries are open from 10 am to 5 pm. Some wineries are by appointment only, so it important to research the wineries in advance. Since Chateau Montelena opens at 9:30, on one trip, we started the day there.

In addition to the tastings that you have booked, have a few other wineries in mind if you have time. If you are particularly fond of pinot noir and want to taste more of those, review a few wineries or tasting rooms near the scheduled appointments to see if you will be able to taste something that appeals to you. Alternatively, it can be fun to pass time in between appointments by strolling through the town. Also, check out these ideas for things to do in Napa besides wine tasting.

Auberge Du Soleil Ah, the Auberge. If I had all the money in the world, I would stay here every time I went to Napa. But with room rates a little out of my price range, Ill settle for taking in a sunset glass of wine on their elegant patio overlooking the valley. Cant beat this view.

Start The Day With A Big Breakfast

Whether you choose to have a sit-down breakfast or grab something at a bakery, it is critical to have a full stomach before you start drinking wine. I am a huge fan of Bouchon in Yountville. There is often a long line at the bakery, but it is well worth the wait. Additionally, when we have scheduled tastings without a lunch break, I have picked up a sandwich here. And, it is difficult for me to leave without having at least one macaroon. I also recommend snacking and drinking water throughout the day to stay hydrated, you will thank me in the morning.
