Pa Residents Can Still Get Plenty Of Wine Shipped Directly To Their Homes
The list of vintners licensed to ship to Pennsylvania consumers includes corporate wineries to tiny family-owned vineyards
Pennsylvanias Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores are now open for curbside pickupand online sales. Still, Pennsylvania residents plenty of other e-commerce options for buying wine that to be shipped to their homes.
A decade ago, only Pennsylvania wineries could deliver wine to Pennsylvania residents, but direct-to-consumer sales from out-of-state vintners are now permitted. Pennsylvania residents may purchase wine from over 1,200 U.S. wine producers that maintain Pa. licensing, with a few restrictions: an adult signature must be provided upon delivery, this wine may not be resold, and no more than 36 standard 9-liter cases can be ordered from any individual company per year.
The list of vintners licensed to ship to Pennsylvania consumers encompasses everything from huge corporate wineries to tiny family-owned vineyards. A good chunk of these are high-end wineries that market to collectors of fine wines. But many of the names would be familiar to bargain shoppers since their wines are affordable staples on state store shelves.

Where Do We Ship
We ship wine to most states, though there are still some states that prohibit retailers from shipping wine in their state. We operate multiple warehouses around the country to comply with state laws. To determine if Wine.com ships to your state, use the drop-down menu at the top of the page to select your state. This will ensure you see correct inventory and pricing for your area. If we cannot ship to your state, you will see that on the red bar at the top of the page alerting you that your state prohibits delivery of wine from out-of-state retailers. We do, however, ship our non-wine items to all 50 states, including non-wine gift baskets, accessories and glassware.
Selecting A Delivery Date
We offer date-specific deliveries for most items purchased. A calendar with all available delivery dates will be presented to you after you enter your shipping address. You can select a delivery date up to six months out by clicking on the calendar arrow to move forward months. Note that we cannot select a specific block of time for your delivery, only a specific date. The carrier will make three delivery attempts before the item is returned to our warehouse.

Is It All Good News
A 2017 New York Times article sent nation-wide ripples across the wine connoisseur community with a conclusion that only 14 states allowed for cross-state wine shipping. However, the legislators have amended some of the regulations by late 2018.
For example, direct shipping has been legal in Oklahoma since October 2018. The carriers and wineries need to follow in-state reporting procedures and pay special taxes. The New York state legislation is unique in that it requires a winerys home state to have similar direct shipping laws as the state of New York itself.

For those who either didnt see the wine they wanted when they stopped by their favorite supermarket or convenience store or are abiding by the wishes of the governor to remain indoors during this coronavirus pandemic, remember that you can get wine shipped to your home.
Those options far exceed what they were even a couple of years ago.
More than a thousand wineries and wine-related companies from around Pennsylvania and throughout the country have licenses now to ship into the state, and those shipments can be dropped on your doorstep. That change took place when Act 39 passed the Pa. Legislature in 2016.
You can find the wineries with a shipping license on the Pa. Liquor Control Board homepage, under Consumers and then Direct Wine Shipping. Your other option is simply to , where you can peruse the list of 1,244 licensees.
Pennsylvania residents are permitted to receive up to 36 cases per year of wine shipped by a wine producer licensed by the PLCB as a direct wine shipper. Those shipments can be made to your home or business address and must be signed for by someone at least 21 years of age when they arrive.

How To Get Alcohol Beer & Wine Delivered In Pittsburgh
Instead of PA Wine and Spirits home delivery, try these options.
Confused about how to order alcohol in light of recent shutdowns? Us too.
The state of PA has been in flux since the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board closed all liquor stores in the state on March 17.
In lieu of in-person sales, state residents now have the option to purchase a restricted quantity of wine and spirits from a reduced catalogue on the Fine Wine and Good Spirits website, and have the option of getting PA wine and spirits home delivery.
But the story doesnt end there. As many residents have noted, the website is tricky and unreliable. There is a narrow window to make purchases before the site gets overloaded and displays a message that says, Due to overwhelming demand, the online store is not available at this time. Please try again tomorrow or in the coming days.
So, what are PA residents doing? Short of driving for the border, theyre shopping local! There is no better time to support local businesses! Distillers, beer distributors, and wine shops are able to continue operations, albeit without dine-in services.
Many have curbside pickup hours, delivery, and/or ship throughout Pennsylvania. Below are details on what a few Pittsburgh favorites are offering for PA wine and spirits home delivery and pickup options.

How To Mail Alcohol Out
When you cross state lines, the shipment of alcohol becomes more difficult. That its because you now must meet the requirements and regulations in both the state youre shipping from and the state youre shipping to.
There is a loophole that helps consumers ship beer, liquor, and wine to other states if that other state permits the shipment of alcohol to consumers. Instead of shipping a bottle from your state to their state, simply find a retailer based in the state youre shipping to and order it from that retailer. That way the retailer wont need to cross state lines and only meet the rules of their states alcohol regulation board.

The Wine Stores Are Closed
The What Am I Drinking?! wine pros offer their best tips for online wine shopping while quarantined.
Though an anomaly in Pennsylvania just a few years ago, it is now somewhat easy to find wine online from outside the PLCB system that can be shipped directly to you. And while the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board and it’s stores are shut down due to COVID-19 concerns, this may be a lifeline for those of us ahem who dont have large, stocked wine fridges.
Of course, there are some drawbacks to online wine shopping: First, there is no brick & mortar presence. If you need a last minute bottle, youre pretty much out of luck. If you want to have a direct conversation with a sales person or expert, youre also out of luck . If you get a bad bottle and want to return it, thatll be a huge hassle .
The second major issue is shipping. Wine is not like clothing. It is very heavy, and thus expensive. Many sites offer shipping discounts or free shipping with a large purchase , but that often requires buying the featured or special-sale wine. If you seek out a specific wine, expect to pay high S& H prices, or wait around and hope you catch a shipping deal.

There Are A Few Zip Code Restrictions
Local laws prevent us from shipping to certain zip codes that are considered “dry zip codes” in Alaska, Florida, Idaho and New Hampshire. We do ship to most of the zip codes in these states, but our system will tell you if the zip code you enter is one that is excluded by law at the time the order is placed, after the shipping address and zip code is entered.
Wine Shipping Laws In The United States
Wine shipping laws in the United States differ between states and are controlled by state law. While most alcohol sales are controlled by the three-tier system, nearly all states now permit some form of direct shipping of wine from wineries to consumers. Most states require wineries to pay for a permit in order to ship to consumers in the state, resulting in a winery-dependent slate of states that it may ship to. Direct wine shipments are also typically subject to sales and/or excise taxes. Most states also limit the quantity of wine that may be purchased monthly or annually, usually in terms of the number of nine-liter cases of wine that may be shipped, though most consumers are unaffected by these limits. Shipment of wine to dry areas is illegal.
In the 2005 case Granholm v. Heald, the Supreme Court ruled that states must regulate direct shipment of wines to consumers from in-state and out-of-state wineries in the same way, either allowing or banning both. Since that ruling, more states gradually began to allow direct shipment of wine from wineries to consumers. Some states also allow direct shipment of wine from out-of-state retailers to consumers.

When all is said and done, direct shipping regulation is to remain subject to state legislation. Some progress has been made to allow online retailers and wineries to ship without too much of a hassle. The important thing is that the wine shipping regulations are improving across the board.
You might be required to conduct some research and most online wine clubs and shops provide detailed information about their wine shipping rules. So theres no need to worry your wine collection is in jeopardy.
