Most Inoffensive: Bold Rock Hard Ros Cider

Angry Orchard’s rosé cider is more floral and sweet than apple-y, so if thats what youre looking for, then youll probably enjoy it. But how did it stack up flavor-wise? Most of us found this cotton candy-hued cider too sweet, and compared it to everything from Jolly Ranchers to pink Starburst. One taster in particular loved this cider, but recognized that it wasnt overly complexI LOVE this, but Im kind of basic. The low ABV makes this cider a classy pick for day drinking events like tailgates, derby parties, and golf tournaments.

Wolffer Estate: A Terroir Like No Other On The Atlantic Coast

The heart and soul of Wolffer Estate Vineyard lies in the 55 acres of estate vines, managed by Richie Pisacano. These vines of Merlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Trebbiano, Pinot Noir and Vignole are cultivated with sustainable farming practices. In fact, the estate has been certified 6 years in a row by Long Island Sustainable Winegrowing. Here, the regions emblematic Bridgehampton loam soil and the breezes blowing off the coast of the Atlantic Ocean combine to form a maritime climate. This specific climate is largely responsible for that balance of ripeness and acidity that marks the signature style of Wolffer Estate Vineyard wines.

The winery, completed in 1997, is outfitted with the latest technologies, including massive, computerized stainless steel tanks, a laboratory, riddling rooms, an Old World style barrel room in high-vaulted caves, a bottling line and a cellar in which the wines are stored before distribution. The estate has also invested in a tasting room, which stays open 7 days a week, welcoming visitors to live the full Wolffer Estate experience.

Wolffer Estate Wines : Key Points

Established in 1988, Wolffer Estate has been crafting high quality wine, ciders and spirits in the heart of the Hamptons on Long Island. Founder Christian Wolffer brought to life a 14-acre parcel and farmhouse after envisioning a space where people could visit and share memories with one another. Today, Wolffer Estate has around 470 acres across Long Island,Argentina and Spain.

Long Islands unique climate, loam soils and proximity to the Atlantic Ocean breeze allows for a variety of grapes to thrive. Wolffer Estate grows classic varieties such asMerlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc andCabernet Sauvignon but also has a few small plots with not so typical varieties like Trebbiano and Vignole. Hailing from Germany, winemaker Roman Roth uses estate grown and locally sourced fruit to create food friendly wines that are elegant yet structured for longevity. All Wolffer Estate wines display a mix of traditional European sophistication with a Long Island innovative flair.

As the only non-American rosé cider of the bunch , I was admittedly skeptical about this one. To my surprise, everyone thoroughly enjoyed this cider. It pours a vibrant coral pink color, and it has just the right amount of crisp and funk to it. One taster described it as pleasantly apple-y, while another compared it to a flavored sparkling water. For the lower price per six pack, this well-priced rosé cider will appeal to a variety of palates, and its low ABV wont knock you off your feet, either.

Wonderful Wine Stand And Tasting Room

Entertaining With Joey Wolffer

We went to both the wine stand and the tasting room and highly recommend both! Kind and knowledgeable staff at both. The wine stand outdoor seating overlooking the vineyard was a perfect backdrop and covered if a little rainy day rosé is what you’re after! The tasting room also has outdoor seating but we stayed inside at a high top table with a cheese plate and a sparkling rosé. Their summer in a bottle is lovely!

Oh my…so unfortunate that this used to be a slice of heaven. Waitstaff used to be more present explaining the wines. It’s got more of a restaurant vibe now. Seems like they want people in and out and to generate more money . Used to have a lovely gift shop and I guess they still do but not in the same fun way. Much more upscale vibe than it used to be which is too bad. The welcome..the certain “hello” is gone.

Wolffer Estate Wine Stand

Having been to many wineries and vineyards around the country, this one is just average. Having said that, it is a perfect place to hear local musicians on the weekends sitting outside by the vineyards and sipping on some wine. However…as recently reviewed by others, the markup of the wine to drink it there is in my opinion ripping you off. I have never been to any other winery that does this. Summer in a Bottle White Table Wine should not be $40 something a bottle when you can purchase it anywhere else for about $20 something.

I’ve been lucky enough to visit vineyards the world over. France, Italy, new world, even England. So the Wolffer. The vineyards don’t wow you with organisation or horticultural beauty. The Maison or Chateau is ok – nice deck. Large. 5 guests ordered 3 different types of tasting . I selected the Wine Advocate option …well the wines all claimed to be mid ’90s scores but didn’t taste like it. Platter of cheese and biscuits was average. I’ve had better everywhere. Including England.

My anticipation for tasting TJs take on rosé cider was sky-high. It was on backorder at my local store, and I had to wait several weeks to even get my hands on it. With this cider in such high demand, it had to be good. So how did it fare? Compared to other ciders we tasted, this one was spicy, a touch peppery, and pleasantly tart. While one taster did call it Straight-up blah, others really enjoyed its surprising complexity. Colored with hibiscus flowers, rose buds, and petals, this cider pours an attractive pale pink color. Yes, the name is a bit odd , but this cider offers superior value for the price and flavor.

The Signature Style Of Wolffer Estate Wines

True Confessions with Scarlett Johansson and Mayor Pete Buttigieg

Wolffer Estate Vineyard produces a wide range of red wines , white wines , sparkling wines and ciders. However, it is for their signature rosé wines that they are particularly well known.

Their Estate Rosé is their first, the original. The 2018 vintage was made from a blend of 50% Merlot, 20% Chardonnay, 13% Cabernet Franc, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Sauvignon Blanc, 1% Riesling and 1% Pinot Noir. Truly a testament to the Wolffer teams mastery of blending, this light orange and copper-toned rosé exudes elegant aromas of ripe pear and apples, followed by a clean mouthfeel and fabulous minerality on the palate. Its great balance and long finish make it the perfect wine to pair with a variety of light summer dishes, including smoked salmon, tuna tartar, raw shellfish or grilled fish.

The aptly named Summer in a Bottle Rosé by Wolffer Estate Vineyard is also a blend, this time of 48% Merlot, 41% Chardonnay, 6% Gewurztraminer, 3% Riesling and 2% Cabernet Franc for the most recent release. The 2018 vintage comes dressed up with a colorful and sophisticated new limited edition label to mark its 5th birthday. The Riesling and Gewurztraminer in the blend add beautiful floral notes, as well as a fresh touch of acid, while the Merlot mellows the wine out, adding body and notes of fresh red fruit. A perfect summertime sipper to be enjoyed pool-side on its own, or paired with fish or pork dishes.

Wolffer Estates Summer In A Bottle Is One Of Four Ross All Made With Love But Distinctly Different

Wolffer Estate Vineyard introduced its Summer In A Bottle rosé in 2016.

There are a lot of reasons to put Wolffer Estate Vineyard in Sagaponack, Long Island, on a destination list, from the comfy back deck to the view it affords to the long list of delicious wines.

Among the wines that have made the winery so popular have been the rosés, including the current Summer In A Bottle, which certainly qualifies as one of the best in its class nationally when it comes to the wine and the appealing bottle markings.

Valerie Fraser, an associate marketing producer for Wolffer Estate, said the winery started making rosé back in the early 1990s when the vineyard was new and Roman Roth was just getting settled in as the winemaker.

Roman had this affinity for trying new things but making them very traditional, she wrote in a recent email. Instead of a kitchen sink rosé that a lot of wineries produce with their leftover grapes, he wanted to be intentional about it and make one that was not too sweet and food-friendly. We consistently offer rosés year-round and those include our Summer in a Bottle, Estate Gold Label, Grandioso , Finca Rose from our vineyard in Argentina, and Noblesse Oblige, our sparkling rosé. We also started making these Cellar Series rosés last year that are in small batches and limited quantity.

They also have been offering private virtual tastings with Roth or another wine expert, which Fraser said have been super successful this past year.

If I didnt see the can, then I might have thought I was drinking a glass of sparkling rosé wine. Compared to the other ciders we tried, Michigan-based Virtue Ciders roséwas in a league of its own. The flavor is smooth and dryand youd never guess that the ABV is as high as it is. It pours a blush pink color and smells more like grapefruit and flowers than it does apples. In fact, one of my colleagues commented This is kind of like drinking flowersit would be delicious with a splash of gin*!

*Update: I later tried thisand yes, it was pretty nice.

Wines Are Made Using A Blend Of Traditional And Unusual Varieties

Wölffer No. 139 Dry Rosé Cider (4 pack)

For the famously popular Summer in a Bottle Rosé, Wölffer vinifies an unusual blend of red and white grapes, including Merlot, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Riesling. The same blend is used for its equally popular Estate Rosé, plus the addition of Pinot Noir. Wölffer also produces a notable varietal wine using Trebbiano, a white grape rarely seen outside of Italy.

Wolffer Estate Vineyards: Representing East End Since 1988

Christian Wolffer was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1938. After stints at a bank, an import-export company and a German chemical company, he began his entrepreneurial career in 1971, selling Canadian real estate to investors from Europe. Later on in the 1970s, Wolffer moved to the United States and founded two venture capital concerns. Eventually, the great creative vision of this self-made venture capitalist brought him to Long Island, where he purchased a 14-acre parcel of land, originally home to a potato field and a small farmhouse. It is on this land that Wolffer founded his wine estate in 1988, originally named Sagpond Vineyards. In 1997, with the inauguration of its 12,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art winery, it was renamed Wolffer Estate Vineyard. The winery, whose ochre stucco walls and terra-cotta walls recall the rustic architecture of the Tuscan wine region, is known as one of the most beautiful on Long Island.

While Mr. Wolffer passed away in 2009 at the age of 70, his presence is still very much felt as one of the leading second wave vintners of Long Island. He was known by many in Long Islands East End as a joyful bon vivant who spoke six languages, as well as a fierce and very public champion of the regions wines.

Dont knock the nameCitizen Ciders bRosé hit the shelves long before #brosé even became a thing. The name has more to do with the flavor , a balanced blend of tart apples and sweet blueberries. The large format bottle makes this cider feel special too, and its even fancier served up in a wine glass. One taster called it nice and tangy, while another commented, This is…interesting? While the extra burst of blueberry flavor caught our taste buds off guard, we didnt mind it one bit.
