What Is Scout & Cellar

Scout & Cellar-What is clean crafted wine? Business Consultants? Is it legit?

Scout & Cellar is a relatively new company focused on bringing clean-crafted wine to consumers. Independent consultants like Diane create their own business under the Scout & Cellar umbrella to bring you wines that are different from the rest of the pack because they dont contain added sugars, synthetic pesticides, additional pesticides, and low sulfites. In short, all the junk that leads to morning-after-wine headaches. Their red wines wont even stain your teeth either!! Wines actually should never stain teeth so think on that for a minute!!!!

Scout & Cellar is always changing their offerings but has identified smaller-batch vineyards to help them keep an eye on whats being produced to ensure a quality product. They use sustainable and/or biodynamic farming methods, and their wines are lab-tested.

Scout & Cellars Founder And Owner Is A Female Sommellier

Scout & Cellar wines are tested in an independent laboratory for pesticides and other contaminants. Im loving that quality assurance and will pay extra for it. Isnt that why we buy organic food?

Sustainne member Catherine Mackay is dedicated to bringing our community the same clean living products she enjoys. Visit Scout & Cellar listing on Sustainne to learn more about the wines and to contact Catherine to arrange your own private tasting party or receive an invitation to one of her upcoming tasting events.

Healthy Wines: What The Labels Really Mean

Fellow wine lovers, I have good news and bad news. Heres the bad: Two-thirds of all wine production originates in Europe where grapes receive higher doses of synthetic pesticides than virtually any other type of crop. Since the U.S. is currently first in the world for the total amount of global wine consumption , this should give you something to whine about.

Many winemakers feel they cant rely on nature to establish continuity in their crops, colors, or flavors, so they utilize synthetic pesticides, chemical additives, and sugars. These additives and sweeteners mask flaws such as bacteria and other impurities. This results in processed wine that has been chemically-altered and tastes, well, unnatural. With pesticide exposure linked to cancer, liver damage, and nervous system damage, how can you assure what youre sipping is safe let alone sustainable?

Next time you head to the store to grab your favorite bottle of red or white, you may notice a cornucopia of terms. Confusing, overwhelming, and even contradicting labels can make you want to grab a theoretical physicist or microbiologist to decode the bottle. But no worries, you can now understand wine labels. Ive channeled my inner-cryptologist and decoded the terms for you below.

Why You Should Drink Natural Wine

Weve already gone over the benefits of drinking natural wine and why you should drink natural, biodynamic and organic wine;. But heres a quick recap that unfortunately applies to at least 95% of wine on the market:

  • Most wines, especially domestic wines, are highly processed and contain questionable additives and/or toxic pesticides and herbicides.
  • In fact, there are 76 chemicals and additives approved by the FDA for use in winemaking.
  • Standard modern wines are now much higher in alcohol, higher in sugar, and filled with questionable, if not downright harmful, chemicals and additives to improve texture, color, and flavor . Put another way: winemakers are trying to mask the low-quality grapes and winemaking techniques being used.
  • The U.S. government;does not require wine labels to include nutritional information or ingredient lists. If you think theyre protecting you, think again!

From all my research, Ive learned that low alcohol, organic, biodynamic or natural wines are the ideal alcohol choice to maximize the health benefits of wine and minimize the negatives.

So where can you buy natural, organic, and biodynamic wine?

If you think drinking clean is some futuristic endeavour, think again. The history of winemaking dates back to Bible times with no need to put chemicals and synthetic ingredients into their precious commodity. So why should we now?

The list of ingredients should be simple on a wine label. A glass of wine should be a pleasure to enjoy without the worries of allergies, arsenic;, or after effects. According to Food and Wine Magazine, wine has many long term and heart-healthy benefits.

Its not a mystery why every product category is leaning towards clean. Wine made with organic grapes, sustainably farmed with minimal intervention is key.

These days, many of the bottles of wine on the shelf are full of additives, fining agents and sometimes even artificial flavors. The mass produced wines are also sometimes made in a lab. So what you see isnt always what you get.;

What Is Clean Crafted Wine

If youve searched beauty aisles high and low for a harmfulchemical free makeup, you can understand the trouble of finding clean wines. Thatsbecause like in clean beauty, theres no universal definition of clean wine.

To make matters worse, theres a huge lack of transparencyin winemaking. Wine makers arent mandated to disclose additives, ingredients,or techniques used in the commercial production of wine. Thats why you neversee labels on bottles.

A bottle of wine sold by Scout and Cellar and defined asclean means that grapes are sourced from organic/biodynamic farms withoutpesticides, fertilizers, or added sulfates.

Good Clean Wine / The Claim:

All of our wines carry certifications listed on the table that indicate how clean the wine is. Symbols and letters on the label indicate the winemakers commitment to the environment, to the grape growing and to the winemaking process. To be classified and certified, both grape growers and wine makers must comply with strict standards regulated by the regions governing agencies. These ensure the quality, tradition and reliability of the wine. Certifications to look for: CCSW, SIP, PEAS, LIVE, DOC, DOCG, IGT, IGP, AOC, DO, IPR, DAC, QbA, VDP, VT, VR, Landwein, QWPSR.

Miller:

This is so patently absurd. Only a couple of these certifications could be even remotely interpreted to denote how clean a wine is. Its like the person writing this copy got their wine education out of a 5-year-olds coloring book.

The Pattersons:

Most of these are standard classifications used by European winemaking regions to tell you what you are drinking and what level of classification it has achieved. Thank you to Good Clean Wine for pointing out the obvious. As to the others, sure, knock yourself out doing research on SIP versus LIVE and let us all know why those were used, when USDA-approved organic certification is right there for the taking.

Zimorski:

Some of these are certifications , some are acronyms for appellations . Some are high quality and specific and some are very generic . A consumer would have no way to understand or even differentiate between them.

Were On A Journey To Discover The Unknown Good

Low Sugar

At Scout & Cellar, were on a mission to showcase just how incredible wine can be in its most authentic form by making it free of synthetic chemicals and additives. It’s all part of our Clean-Crafted Commitment® to doing the right thing. For ourselves. For those we love. And for our planet. No matter what.

It all started with Sarah Shadonix. While studying to become a wine professional, Sarah began experiencing inexplicable headaches. So she did the research, consulting winemakers, grape growers and physicians before discovering the truth: Many of the worlds wines can contain up to 300 questionable chemicals and additives. This discovery changed everything, and not long after, Scout & Cellar was born.

Scout & Cellar Clean Crafted Wines Review

November 28, 2018 by zenbelly

The following is my honest review of Scout & Cellar Clean Crafted Wines. Spoiler: I love them so much that I became a consultant for them. If you know me or this site, you know that I wouldnt have done that if I wasnt very pleased with everything about the company.;

Fun fact: Because grapes are on EWGs Dirty Dozen List, I pretty much only buy organic grapes. That means that I dont buy them year round because organic grapes arent available year round. But wine? Wine I buy year round, and its almost never organic.

I realize that wine is made from grapes and this makes me a total hypocrite.

In my defense, I have purchased organic wines. I just havent really liked any of them. And the reason I drink wine is because I enjoy it. I love trying new ones. I love having a glass of wine on the couch in my cozies, and I love selecting a bottle that perfectly complements what I cooked for dinner.

What I dont like about wine is the hangover I often get from it, more-so than I do from other beverages. Often from only having a glass or two. Sometimes, I feel a headache coming on from wine just a few sips in. Ive often wondered why that was, and have often heard Its probably the sulfites,; which makes sense. But it doesnt tell the whole story.

It turns out, in addition to up to 350ppm of sulfites, there are a lot of things that go into producing conventional wine, none of which need to be disclosed on the label:

Heres more about them:

What Is Clean Crafted Wine Exactly

Clean wine is wine made from natural grapes, without any added sugar, sulfites, or preservatives. You’ll typically find clean crafted wine is harvested from organic or sustainable vineyards, farmed without pesticides or harmful chemicals.;

It’s important to note that the term “clean wine” is not regulated by the FDA, and therefore you should expect some variance between clean winemakers. Before buying a clean crafted bottle of wine, do your research to differentiate between a trusted clean wine company, and those who simply have a clever marketing team.

Even with no government-regulated definition to reference, here’s what you can expect from the clean crafted wine industry:

Clean crafted wine who abstain from the use of synthetic pesticides and chemicals. During the winemaking process, clean wine companies allow the grapes to speak for themselves, rather than add sweeteners, sugars, additives, or sulfites. This results in a cleaner wine for you , and less headaches.;

Can A Wine Ever Really Be Clean

Generally speaking, its nice when things are clean. Clean clothes, clean lines, clean kitchens. The word has a way of putting people at ease. Surely if something is clean, it must be inherently, well, nice. And while that may be true for a pile of laundry, its not as clear what clean means when used to describe wine.

When I hear the words clean and wine placed next to one another, my brain shuts off for a split second, says Eric Moorer, director of sales and customer engagement at Domestique, a natural wine shop in Washington, D.C. I dont love it as a descriptor and certainly not for branding. Its not a way to define wine because youre simply talking about the product in front of you. Wine is about people and how you treat them and the earth.

And yet, clean wine is a pervasive turn of phrase in modern wine marketing, often used in the ever-expanding intersection of wine and wellness culture. Wine brands looking to tap into the $4.5 trillion wellness economy organize 5Ks through vineyards, or lead luxury wine-and-meditation retreats with four-figure price tags.

The clever marketing targets people who want to be able to go to yoga class and enjoy a clean rosé afterward, as a treat. The issue is that clean in the context of wine doesnt necessarily mean what you might think.

Can a wine really be considered clean if consumers dont even know whats in the bottle? Is the expectation that wine drinkers just need to take a brands word for it?

Scout & Cellar / The Claim:

How to make Wine part 1- Primary Stage – PoorMansGourmet

For a wine to be considered Clean-Crafted, it goes through two rounds of independent lab testing to guarantee that its free of yucky stuff like synthetic pesticides and chemical additives and has fewer than 100 ppm of total sulfites. We also evaluate and review farming and production practices to confirm that they are, in fact, Clean-Crafted.

Zimorski:

Trade-marked Clean-Crafted: This is the first sign of BS.

Cohen:

Looks like Scout & Cellar is working on or has trademarked the term Clean-Crafted when it comes to wine. They literally made this term up. The problem is that theyre intending for the term to indicate whats in the bottle and it gives consumers the feeling that there is meaning behind that term. There is not. Producers know exactly what goes into their wines as far as pesticides and additives. This new term is solely marketing lingo trying to clean-wash their wines, similar to the green-washing problem in wine.

Miller:

The childish language here is just moronic. Im not even going to speak to anything else regarding this companys wine philosophies, as it is an MLM . According to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, 99 percent of people in an MLM lose money.
