A Record For The Most Valuable White Wine Ever Sold As Of 2021 2022

Although not quite sold at auction, the impressive price achieved for this 1811 Château dâYquem ensures that it deserves a mention in our 2022 list of the most expensive wine. It is one of just 10 bottles that exist worldwide and has been awarded 100 points by Robert Parker, who described it as one of the greatest wines in the history of Bordeaux.

The bottle of white wine was sold by The Antique Wine Company to Christian Vanneque, a private wine collector. As the former head of La Tour dArgent, a famous Parisian restaurant, he certainly knows his wines. The wine was sold for $117,000, which explains why it now sits proudly protected by bullet proof glass in his current Balinese restaurant in Indonesia.

Four years later, another was sold to a Saudi price for an alleged $30,000a staggering price, seeing as how typical icewines sell for $25 to $150 each!

Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon 1992

The most expensive wine ever sold is the exception to the dated rule of rare wine, as it was not even a decade old at the time of purchase the six liter Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon 1992 bottle sold for a whopping half a million bucks in 2000 at a Napa Valley charity auction! It was only available for a limited time in 1995, and apparently was the cats meow, at least to one wine connoisseur out there, because it is rumored Chase Bailey, a former Cisco Systems executive, picked this up, though we have an asterisk* here , because the $500K bottle was knocked down a bit in price because it was a charity sale, although it could still have sold for more than any other wine in history.

Chateau Lafite 1787 $156450

This bottle might not seem particularly special, besides the fact that it is over two hundred years old, but it holds its own piece of history. This bottle, in particular, is speculated to have been owned by Thomas Jefferson himself who personally bought it in France. There is a Th. J. etched beneath the label for his initials, but its authenticity is still questionable. It was last sold in London to be a part of a collection since it is no longer drinkable after sitting for so many years.

Chateau Margaux 1787 $225000

This was another bottle thought to be owned by Thomas Jefferson himself, as it carries the same inscription as the Chateau Lafite. This bottle is only valued at this price because it was smashed during a dinner party. It was initially valued at only $160,000 but the owner had it insured for $225,000, which is the reasoning why it’s so high on our list. It might no longer be on the market or even attainable, but it has forever been granted a place in history due to this unfortunate event.

A 73-year-old bottle of French Burgundy became the most expensive bottle of wine ever sold at auction, fetching $558,000.

The bottle of 1945 Romanee-Conti sold at Sotheby’s for more than 17 times its original estimate of $32,000. Another bottle of the same wine and vintage went for $496,000 moments later at Saturday’s auction.

The bottles shattered the previous record for the most expensive bottle of wine ever sold a 3-liter bottle of 1945 Mouton-Rothschild that sold at Sotheby’s in 2007 for $310,000.

The sales along with a bottle of whiskey that sold at Sotheby’s on Saturday for $843,200 shows that demand for the rarest and best trophy wines and spirits remains strong despite global stock market jitters and trade wars. Demand for the top vintage French wines especially Burgundy is largely being driven by China, so the sales also suggest that while China’s economy may be slowing, China’s rich are still spending.

Sotheby’s described the 1945 vintage as “concentrated and exotic, with seemingly everlasting power a wine at peace with itself.”

Thats one expensive drop.

A bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon sold for a whopping $1 million at a charity auction in New Orleans earlier this month.

It is the highest price for a bottle of wine ever sold at an auction, Sonoma Magazine reports.

A man named Don Steiner placed the winning bid on the six-liter bottle of Setting Wines 2019 Glass Slipper Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon back on Nov. 6.

The wine was made in Californias Napa Valley by award-winning winemaker, Jesse Katz.

It wasnt immediately clear why the six-liter bottle fetched such a hefty price tag. A 750ml bottle of the same wine retails for $185 but only 900 bottles, or 75 cases, were produced of the larger bottle.

The bottle claimed by Steiner at the charity auction is believed to be the only six-liter one available, according to the magazine.

No other details about the highest bidder, including where he lives or what he does for a living, were released.

The charity auction was to raise funds for American celebrity chef Emeril Lagasses foundation.

It is such an honor to have set the world record for most expensive single bottle of wine ever sold and raise $1 million for a cause that is so close to my heart, the winemaker said.

Im still pinching myself.

Rare, historic bottles of wine have been known to sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars at auction.

Record prices, however, havent included bottles auctioned for charity like the recent on in New Orleans.
