The kitchen is adjoining the dining cars, and all the ingredients are of the highest quality,;humanely raised, hormone free meats and fresh, line-caught fish. The whole experience is reminiscent of a by-gone era of travel, with impeccably trained and attentive waitstaff and first class food.;Julie and I decided wed each order something different, so we could sample a bit of everything. We also shared the Napa Valley flight of wine which included a sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, pinot noir and a cabernet sauvignon, to go with our entrees. The first course, was a choice of the baby lettuce salad with candied walnuts, and smoked goat cheese or the soup du jour.;The soup that day was a delicious tomato bisque with house made croutons. Julie and I switched the soup and salad halfway, so we were each able to enjoy a bit of both.

Entree choices include beef, pork, chicken, fish as well as a vegetarian dish. I chose the Roasted Beef Tenderloin on cambozola toast with sautéed vegetables, which was absolutely fantastic! Julie opted for the Pan Seared Bacon Wrapped Pork Medallion on black truffle hash browns with roasted vegetables in a chardonnay-mustard reduction. Each dish came out cooked exactly to our specifications and hot. The beef was cooked to perfection, with a delicious cabernet reduction, and the cambozola toast was divine!

An Early Start In Napa Valley

The Napa Valley Wine Train allows guests to choose from multiple experiences. Some may choose a special romantic dinner or a mystery dinner theater. The company also has special events on days like the Fourth of July and Valentine’s day. Most experiences on the train last between two and three hours and include a meal. Some tours come with a winery tour. According to Winetrain.com, the Legacy Tour surpasses all of the other options. It lasts a full day, begins with sparkling wine, four courses, and two winery tours.

The tour starts early, but not too early. Vacationers still get the chance to sleep in since the train boards at 10:00 AM. They’ll enjoy views of vineyards from the train’s windows as they indulge in breakfast. The menu could include succulent offerings like maple bacon, lemon mascarpone crepes, and other such delicacies.

Just as servers clear away guests’ breakfast plates, the train slows to a halt beside the iconic Napa Valley sign near Oakville. For the next hour, visitors explore the area, take photos with the history-making sign and enjoy a three-wine tasting in the open-air car.

Should I Use White Or Black Truffle Oil

When you hear the word truffle, it most likely refers to black or white truffle. They are alike in some ways and different in others both enhance the flavors in recipes, but they do offer subtle differences in taste.

Black truffle offers a robust, earthy, nutty, aromatic flavor that is great for meats, soups, and sauces. White truffle is garlicky and peppery and works best with more delicate dishes like seafood. I use black truffle oil and salts for this recipe. The mushroom flavor seems more pronounced and its a little easier on the pocketbook.

Whether you chose black or white truffle oil, drizzle it on in small amounts and only add it after your soup is ready to serve. Cooking with truffle oil can compromise the flavor. A small amount goes a long way.
