Duckhorn Wine Cos Entry
Napa Valley-based Duckhorn Wine Co. has a sprawling portfolio that includes some of the most renowned names in California wine, including such own-make brands as Duckhorn Vineyards and Goldeneye, as well as more recently acquired luxury labels like Kosta Browne and Calera. But the companys major volume driver, and the entry point for many Duckhorn consumers, is the line.
Originally established in 1985, Decoy by Duckhorn launched with a red blend-exclusive lineup, aimed at making use of the companys surplus wine. In 2010, however, this business strategy shifted the Decoy range was expanded, and more emphasis was placed on building the brand as a stand-alone label in its own right. Today, Decoy is led first and foremost by its Cabernet Sauvignon. The Cabernet is really the anchor of the Decoy lineup, and its far and away the No.-1 Cabernet in the $15-and-up segment, says Duckhorn senior vice president and chief marketing and business development officer Carol Reber. Thats followed by the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which, altogether, are the three most significant wines in the lineup.
The brand has long held a 70-30 split in the off- versus on-premise, though emphasis on building restaurant and bar accounts has grown recently, with broader distribution coming on stream over the last two years. Reber notes that by-the-glass pricing for the brand remains strong in many markets, which has consequently driven success in retail channels.

Why I Like To Sip My Decoy Wine Instead Of A Real Bottle
Its hard to believe that theres still a stigma attached to decoy wines, especially when it comes to buying them.
And its not hard to find plenty of cases of fake wines that are being sold on websites and in grocery stores.
But the new science of decoy consumption is changing all that.
While you can buy fake bottles of wine online, they often dont have the same quality of flavor and aroma.
Now, with decoy bottles, you get more of what you pay for.
Heres how: A decoy bottle will look like when its sealed, sealed and labeled.
The label will say it has a blend of ingredients.
The ingredients will look different in real wine, too.
When the bottle is opened, the decoy ingredients will smell different.
In the case of a wine cooler drink like a decoy vodka or a fake bottle of wine, the label will look identical.
As you can see, the taste and aroma are not identical.
If youre looking to make a change in your wine drinking habits, you can always buy a decoction wine instead.
Youll still get a bottle that tastes the same as it did before, but the taste will be different.
If you want to make your own decoctions, youll need to know the ingredients and know what youre getting.
There are a few ways you can learn about these ingredients, and if you know enough about wine, you should be able to figure out how to make them yourself.
The most obvious is to visit a wine store.
If your local wine shop has a wine shelf, you may have seen it there before.
