What Wine Goes With Ham? Thumbs Up Wine Food Pairing

The Saxon Brown 14 Righting Bros is another Zinfandel wine that offers a unique blend of black fruits for a rich flavor accented with various tasteful spices. It’s a much heavier wine than the others on this list, though the tannins add an astringent taste that brings life to this full-bodied wine.

This is a great wine to pair with ham as the bold flavors contrast the sweetness of ham and create a mouthwatering sensation that you won’t want to miss.

What Are The 2 Basic Rules When Pairing Food And Wine

8 simple rules for matching food and wine Keep food and wine at a similar weight. Match flavour intensity and character. Think about acidity. Beware mixing salt and tannin. Soften bitter tannins with richer, heavier food . Serve a wine at least as sweet as the food being served. Spicy foods need spicy wine . Pair with the sauce.

Inspiration For Your Glaze:

Use for example honey, brown sugar, maple syrup, Dijon, some mushroom soy sauce and black pepper for a succulent and sweet glaze. I often add some concentrated apple juice as well. For a truly glorious Christmas ham you can always spice the glaze up a bit with typical holiday flavors like ginger, cinnamon or cloves. Perhaps a dash of whisky, rum or cognac? Feel free to go to town with cayenne pepper, chipotle or chili pepper for a more racy, spicy touch.

Which Other Products Are Good To Pair With Iberico Ham

I want to share a list of possible combinations you can do with Iberico ham.

Pan con Tomate and Iberico ham: this is typical with breakfast or starter than comes particularly from the south of Spain. Toast 2 slices of good quality bread. Grate a red mature tomato, and in the bowl mix with Extra Virgin olive oil, salt, peppers. Ones the toast are ready put the tomato mix on the toast and really thin slices of ham in the top, the heat of the bread will melt the fat of the Iberico ham and will make it irresistible.

Figs with Iberico Ham, Mahon cheese and roquet: an easy starter, but really tasty. Buy nice sweet fresh figs and cut them in half. Add a small slice of Mahon cheese on the top of each half of the fig. Take a thin but long slice of Iberico ham and wrapped up all around the fig and cheese. You can present the dish with rocket on the bottom of the fig.

Iberico ham and manchego cheese platter: this is one starter you must-have in your parties with friends, or sitting on the front of the TV. Cut by hand with a knife really thin slices and plate them around the plate, in the centre make Manchego cheese triangles. Accompany with Picos or Regañas .

Wines To Serve With Turkey

Turkey on its own presents a fairly straight-forward pairing partner, but who really eats turkey solo? Herb-filled stuffing, roasted veggies, rich sauces, and an assortment of savory sides manage to make their way alongside the bird. Its these sides and sauces that must be taken into account when working out the best wine pairings.

Sauvignon Blanc is hands-down one of the top white wine picks for turkey and savory sides, as it tends to bring its own herbal tones to the table. The all time go-to favorite is a Pinot Noir or Burgundy red wine, its high acidity and low tannins makes for the perfect pairing.

Wine Spectator: What would you pour with the holiday table centerpiece, roast beef?

Joo Lee, wine director at Grand Award winner Saison in San Francisco

I personally like younger, more fruitful reds with roast beef. Jamet is one of the top producers from Côte-Rôtie, and as much body and depth as his wines have, they still drink wonderfully in their youth.

Rebecca Kirhoffer, co-owner and wine director of Award of Excellence winner Rebeccas, in Greenwich, Conn.

A great bottle of Gevrey-Chambertin or Morey-Saint-Denis would be a great choice. I fell in love with the wines from a number of years back. Paul Marchand, a fine winemaker, and a Canadian man named Tawse partnered up and bought a parcel in Burgundy, Domaine Maume. What those two gentleman and the land producedsimply amazing wines.

Best Wine To Pair With Honey Baked Ham

I never knew that The HoneyBaked Ham Company had the monopoly on honey-baked hams for many years until spiral cutter inventor Harry Hoenselaars patent finally ran out in 1981. At that point other companies, such as Smithfield, joined the game. These other companies used cutters based on the same principle as Hoenselaars, creating one continuous slice around the bone. However, Hoenselaar wasnt only known for the cutter, but he also devised a secret marinade, smoked each ham for hours over assorted hardwood chip types, then sealed the ham with his sweet, signature glaze, resulting in a crunchy, crackly wrapper. The Honey Baked Ham Company started in 1957 as one store in Detroit and has grown to over 400 stores run by his children and grandchildren.

Home cooks attempting this dish tend to use bone-in ham with brown sugar, honey and cinnamon. Some use pineapples or corn syrup, butter, nutmeg and clove. Interesting twists include the use of ginger ale and Dijon mustard. Some recipes dont call for honey at all, and get their honey-ness through other sugars and syrups.

Riesling Can Be Paired With Ham

Riesling wines, in general, are an excellent choice for ham dinners because they are versatile. They are typically light and can seem very similar to other varieties of white wine, like chardonnays. Both dry and sweet rieslings will go with whatever type of ham youve made.

You could even bring a variety of them and let your guests choose what they want to have with dinner. This German wine family will not disappoint, and your guests will be clamoring for more.

An easy-to-find Riesling is the Chateau St. Michelle Riesling, which is a blend of dry and sweet Riesling, so it has a balanced flavor compared to other Rieslings out there. There are also different varieties from the same winery that are exclusively dry or sweet.

While Rieslings are almost exclusively white wines, several varieties of red Rieslings could be promising for a dinner occasion. These tend to be heavier and less fragrant than white Rieslings.

A fancy ham dinner is a perfect chance to try out different kinds of Rieslings to see what you like. Once the experiment is done, you can use this variety with other pork dishes. Roasted pork belly with apple and pork chops with herbed potatoes are two great options to go with a nice Riesling.

    What Wine Goes With Ham

The wine pairing with ham depends on the type of ham you are eating. There are three primary methods of producing ham: salting , wet-curing, and smoking.

White wines: Brandon Seager, a wine consultant and educator from Elmira, notes that Easter dinners can have side dishes like asparagus and deviled eggs, which are tricky to pair with wines.

“Riesling is the answer,” he said, with conviction.

Seager was not alone in this opinion. When it came to white wines, dry and semi-dry Rieslings were the most popular recommendation this may have had something to do with the Finger Lakes region being renowned for its Rieslings. The judges’ recommendations included Rieslings from Dr. Konstantin Frank, Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard and Ravines Wine Cellars.

A reason the pairing works well is that Rieslings are high in acid.

“That saltiness needs some acidity,” said Kristin Kraft, an American Wine Society certified judge and president of the national organization.

Holly Howell, a Rochester-area certified sommelier and wine educator, plans to take both a Finger Lakes and an Alsatian Riesling to her Easter celebration because it is fun to taste and compare the two.

Another white wine recommendation was Gewürztraminer, a grape that grows best in cooler climates like the Finger Lakes. The aromatic wines are known for the sweet smell of lychee. Gewurtztraminers from McGregor Vineyard in the Finger Lakes and Flat Rock Cellars in the Niagara Escarpment in Ontario, Canada, are good choices, judges said.

“They have a bit more texture to them,” he said.

Rosé wines: Dry and off-dry rosé wines also can pair well with Easter ham dinners, the judges said.

The Best Wine Pairings for Thanksgiving Dinner (TEASER)

    zZorra5

Friends want to bring the ham for Christmas dinner, which is fine with me, but I’m not sure what wine to serve. I am assuming this will be a traditional baked ham with a simple brown sugar-type glaze. I have the vague notion, probably a delusion, that ham is fairly versatile as far as what wine you can serve with it. Suggestions?

Wines To Serve With Other Easter Meals

Not everyone serves ham on Easter, and the meals planned by the judges reflect that.

Doris Miculan Bradley, a wine judge, professor, wine buyer and certified sommelier has planned an Italian feast, complete with a wine for each course.

With battered and fried seafood, she will serve a sparkling wine from Benjamin Bridge winery in Nova Scotias Gaspereau Valley “one of the most interesting regions in Canada.”

With grilled lamb, she will serve Ripassa Valpolicella Ripasso DOC Superiore, an Italian wine made with dried grapes. And with her burnt sugar crema dessert, she will serve Moscato di Pantelleria, from the Italian island of Pantelleria “one of the most beautiful little wines that you’ll find from Italy.”

If the weather cooperates, Rick Cusker, an AWS certified wine judge and a wine educator, will grill salmon outdoors. He plans to start the meal with a Santa Margherita Prosecco, a sparkling wine from Italy. The salmon will likely be paired with a Pinot Noir-based wine from the Côte de Nuits, in the French wine region of Burgundy.

Jonathan Link, sales consultant for The Winebow Group, is taking a breather from ham and instead is getting a dry-aged ribeye from McCann’s Local Meats in Rochester. With it he will serve a Chateau de Saint Cosme from the Cote du Rhone region of France. He enjoys the spice notes of the wine, and says the fat in the beef will play well with the tannins in the wine.

Almost everyone I have met loves a good bottle of Pinot Noir however, is it good with ham? This light, acidic wine is also a great compliment to ham.

It would help if you paired it with smoked ham or any other ham type with cherry glaze. Some people love acidic wines like Pinot Noir to balance out the delightful ham flavors, especially those with glazing.

Sparkling Wine Is The Ultimate Pairing For Ham

Best wines to serve for Easter ham dinner

Out of all the varieties on this list, sparkling wine is the perfect wine pairing for any ham. Not only are they festive, but you also get an excellent complementary flavor.

Champagnes are a great pick, especially for sweet hams. Their typically dryer flavor can lift the dish, cut through the fatty flavors, and leave your palette cleansed.

Other sparkling wines also work. Again, carefully read the flavor profiles before buying, as you dont want to spend a ton of money on something you dont like.

You could even use sparkling cider, like , if you want a non-alcoholic option for kids or people who dont drink. Martinellis cider is one of the best ones and is widely available all across the United States.

What Wine Goes And Pair With Iberico Ham

When you think of what to accompany with Iberico ham, probably one of the best answers will be a glass of wine. The fusion of ham and wine is an excellent combination in gastronomy, pairing it properly will have an extraordinary connection.

But, which wines I should choose to create this excellent connection? We need to make sure that we are having a good quality wine, as I have seen some times, people with good ham and bad wine and vice-versa.Usually, people associate Iberico Ham with red wine but sometimes will not be the best match.

Lately, trends of the sector, are going to dry white wines, bubbly wines and sherries. In case if you want a red wine, this needs to be young wine, because the Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva will kill the flavours of the Ham.

In my opinion, the best is the light white wine, as will not kill the flavour of the ham, in the main time will have a bit of acidity. The acidity will help to eliminate the fat from the ham in the mouth. The secret is to balance the combination of fat-acidity.
