Quick Tips And Tricks To The Best Wine Spritzer Recipe

Red Rock Ginger Ale Tasting With LB
  • Use cheap, drinkable wine. Theres absolutely no reason to bust out the fancy wine for this recipe!
  • Find your favorite fruit! I love blackberries in this wine spritzer recipe. However, you can use another berry or fresh stone fruit, like peaches or plums, for different flavor.
  • Make it a pitcher! Since this drink is scalable, turning it into a pitcher is awesome for easy entertaining. Just be sure not to mix it until just before guests are ready for it because the ginger ale can go flat.

What Is A Spritzer

Well, it depends on where you are and whats being served. The word spritzer is derived from the German spoken in Austria. Consequently, spritzer drinks are very popular there! Traditionally, a spritzer is a wine and soda water drink.

Fun fact: A spritzer is similar to an Italian spritz, which is usually made with sparkling wine and soda water. Youve probably heard of the classic Aperol Spritz.

This red wine spritzer recipe is an adaptation on this classic cocktail. It involves red wine, berries, orange liqueur, simple syrup and ginger ale. Its a bit more involved than a classic spritzer, but its no less delicious!

Whats In A Wine Spritzer

This Red Wine Spritzer has just 2 ingredients, you cant get any easier than that!

  • Club Soda, Sprite or even Ginger Ale

You really just want something that will compliment the flavor of the wine and make it fizzy. I really like to use sprite because it also adds a little sweetness. But if you just want fizzy go with club soda, since it will not add flavor.

How To Make White Wine Ginger Beer Sangria

Start your White Wine Ginger Beer Sangria by making your ginger simple syrup. Add equal parts sugar and water into a saucepan, then warm over the stove and stir.

Once the sugar has all dissolved, add the ginger root and let simmer for about a minute. Then remove from heat, and let it cool while infusing the ginger flavor.

Once cooled to room temperature, strain your simple syrup into a measuring cup or bowl.

Then in a large pitcher, pour in your choice of white wine. I added orange slices for fun, and is totally optional.

Then add in your fresh or store-bought orange juice.

Next youll add the fresh lemon and lime juice, being sure to catch any seeds that try to escape.

Follow it with the ginger simple syrup that you made, now cooled entirely.

Finish her off with the ginger beer, and give it a gentle stir.

When ready to serve, pour into glasses filled with ice.

Garnish with fresh orange, lemon, or lime slices for fun, and enjoy you White Wine Ginger Beer Sangria!

What Type Of Fruit Goes Best In This Red Wine Sangria

There are so many delightful fruit variations for sangria. My preference here is a citrusy combination. So I start with four large oranges, two lemons, and one lime. Each of these is quartered and squeezed into a large pitcher. Then the fruit, rind and all, goes into the pitcher to await its merger with a bottle of red wine and brandy. The freshly squeezed fruit as its mingled with the alcohol will ultimately add an intense complexity to this lovely libation.

    • Blackberriesfresh blackberries or frozen work here! Just be sure if youre using frozen blackberries that youve defrosted them so that they can be muddled easily.
    • Red winemy original recipe states merlot, but you can use whatever kind of red wine you have on hand. I suggest using a red wine thats dry since were adding sweetness and also one thats not expensive.
    • Orange liqueuryou can use triple sec, Cointreau or Grand Marnier here, as they all fall into that category. Cointreau is my favorite because it packs a ton of flavor without being excessively expensive. This isnt a traditional spritzer ingredient, but I like the flavor it adds.

Should The Soaked Fruit Be Discarded

Theres no reason to keep the soaked fruit in the pitcher. It adds no continued benefit to the sangria and in all reality, its pretty ugly from sitting overnight. Cut up new chunks of fresh fruit: apples, oranges, lemons, and limes and add these to the individual glasses. It not only makes for such a pretty presentation but the alcohol-soaked fruit is an additional prize at the end of the drink.

Remember , I believe in rewarding yourself for accomplishments in life. It provides you with incentives to press on to the finish line. It encourages you to discard the desire to quit in the middle of the struggle. To be sure, life does have its struggles, but the thrill of victory and the elation that comes from winning is well worth the battle. And this Red Wine Sangria with Brandy provides those accolades for me.

People, in general, need to be celebrated. So why not plan a get-together where your friends and family are applauded as well. What better time is there than the holiday season thats coming up. Whether its Thanksgiving, Friendsgiving or Christmas, throw together a pitcher of sangria and let it flow freely throughout the day. This is where stories of past accomplishments are retold, encouragement is given and the joy of true relationships linger in the moment. Your guests will feel cheered, loved and maybe a little tipsy.

What Type Of Wine Is Best For This Red Wine Sangria

Choose a dry full-bodied red wine. What does that even mean?

Dry means it has no residual sugar. Its when all the grape sugar has been converted to alcohol during the fermentation and leaves no sweetness in the barrel.

Full-bodied is a description of how the wine feels in your mouth. There are actually three categories: light, medium and full-bodied. Think of it like milk. Skim, 2% or whole milk. Each of these has a different feel in your mouth. Full-bodied signifies that the alcohol is weightier in the wine. In other words, the percentage of alcohol is more. Which in my opinion, is never a bad thing.

Merlot, zinfandel or malbec fits in this dry full-bodied category. I went with a merlot but any of these will work great. Theres no need to purchase overly expensive wine for this recipe. But I wouldnt go with a cheap bottle either. You can get a good bottle of red wine for under $15. Choose a bottle that you would enjoy sitting down and sharing a glass with a friend.

Reward Yourself With This Red Wine Sangria With Brandy

If you dont mind indulging me for a moment, Ill give you a little background on myself. The Camino de Santiago is a 500-mile pilgrimage across northern Spain which a friend and I hiked back a few years ago. We averaged 15 miles a day on foot while conquering rough terrain, navigating through dark forests, vanquishing mountains and descending their valleys. Fatigue, exhaustion, AND exhilaration were our constant companions.

My reward every evening when I reached my destination, dont laugh or judge, was a tall glass of Red Wine Sangria with a shot of brandy. I sat my weary bones down at some little bar, lifted my throbbing feet and refreshed my depleted body with a lovely, fruit of the vine drink. Life was good! I had done it, made it one more leg of the journey and found my soul fulfilled and satisfied for one more day.

Fast forward to present day moments of success and achievement, I still reward myself with this Red Wine Sangria recipe and I think youll find it just as gratifying.

    Red Wine Cooler

This simple mixture of red wine and soda is sweet, tart and incredibly thirst-quenching. In Spain, it’s known as “Tinto de Verano” and is popular during the warm summer months.

Lower in alcohol than Sangria, this red wine spritzer is perfect for sipping on a sunny afternoon – by the pool, on the deck or just lazing around with a good book.

With only two ingredients, it’s an ideal drink for a crowd – and it’s pretty!!! .

Should Sugar Be Added Or Not

This is purely a personal preference. I like my sangria just a little sweet. But because I add sugar to this particular recipe , choosing a dry red wine is best. These two, a little bit of sugar and the dry wine, end up complimenting each other instead of filling your mouth with a sugary syrup. If you prefer a less sweet sangria, you can leave the sugar out altogether. Either way, it is good.
