They reserved a small private wine room at a local restaurant, brought in chocolate cake, made me a scrapbook of photos from our 14 years of organizing Womens Service Day and found so many ways to make me feel special.

What Are The Best Paints For Wine Glasses

When you want to do a DIY painted wine glass, you need to find the right paint for the job. Glass has a non-porous surface, which means that the best paints for wine glasses would be acrylic enamel paints. I Will Show You How Hand Painted Flower Wine Glasses Are Easy To Make Even If You Have No Art Skills

I always love having a momento for special occasions like wedding showers and birthdays. One of my favorite things to make is painted wine glasses for each of my special guests. I have an upcoming Summer Girls Retreat with some of my best friends and Plaid was nice enough to send me a bunch of great supplies to complete my hand painted flower wine glasses!

To get the rest of my supplies I headed to Walmart. I was shocked at how many Plaid Crafts products were available in their aisles!

Items youll need:

• Plaid Folk Art acrylic paint
• Plaid paintbrushes
• Wine glasses
• Mod Podge acrylic sealer spray

To begin, choose your paint colors for the wine glass and put a little dollop of each color on a palette or paper plate. Turn your wine glass upside down to it is easier to handle.

Using a smaller Plaid paintbrush, paint the small center of the flower with short strokes on the outside of the wine glass.

Now youre ready to start layering colors. Starting about halfway up the yellow center, start painting small brush strokes with your second light based color . Its ok if your paint strokes are uneven it will help your flowers look whimsical!

Now start adding the darker tones to the base of the flower to give it some depth. I also added green and yellow tones to the stem of the wine glass in horizontal stripes for an eclectic vibe!

And thats it! Beautiful and exquisite hand painted wine glasses for just a couple of bucks!

Choosing Your Wine Glasses

You can use whatever wine glasses you like, although smooth glass as opposed to fluted or cut crystal which is uneven is the most suitable choice. If you are new to glass painting, you may want to do a practice run first using cheap wine glasses.

That way you can be sure of perfecting your designs and painting methods before moving on to better quality glasses. The current trend is for stemless wine glasses, but if you prefer traditional stemmed glasses, that is entirely your choice. Six: Adding A Green Stem

Get ready to add some green! Using your favorite shade of green, paint the stem of the wine glass for your flower stem. Most flowers have green petal-like leaves underneath so you will want to cover the bowl of the glass with that. Let the leaves cover the ends of some of your flower petals as well. Do you ever do Christmas crafts of DIY gifts? When I was younger, a lot younger, I used to get together with my mom and her best friend, who was an artist, and wed make gifts every year for everyone! Last year I made DIY coasters..bought the tiles from Lowes, printed black and white photos out on white tissue paper, and mod podged it together, with felt on the bottom. They came out so amazing that my mom wont even use them for anything other than decoration!

First, wash your glasses really well, and make sure they are completely dry and free of any film before starting to draw on them,

Once I removed the stencil I smoothed out the edges with the gold marker and let it dry..which only takes seconds!

Preparing The Glass Surface

To have the paint go on evenly, you need to prepare the wine glass surface. This is a simple process that begins with washing the glass with some soapy water to remove any dirt. Then, you can rinse it and allow the glass to dry.

Once dry, take a piece of paper towel and moisten it with some rubbing alcohol. Wipe off the surface of the glass with this to make sure that any grease marks and soap have been removed. Instead of rubbing alcohol, you can also use white vinegar to wipe the glass surface.

Leave the glass to dry and then you will be ready to begin painting! If you are going to paint the lower end of your wine glass, you can tape the edge of the upper lip to help prevent any paint or fingerprints from getting onto the glass.

If you will be painting freehand, all you will need is a small set of art brushes. If you prefer a more polished look or don’t have the artistic inclination to go freehand, tape stencils to the glass during the painting process. For vitrea painting, you will need either vitrea pens or paint jars, as well as several containers for the dipping process. Plastic containers work well for this application since you can throw them away when you’re done.
