Where In California Is The Wine Country

2016 Patriarch Release

The Californian wine country is in the North San Francisco Bay area, with over 800 wineries located all along this scenic route. The Bay area encompasses some of the worlds most famous wine regions, including Napa Valley and Sonoma.

The success of these famous regions within the Bay area is largely to do with the sound soil composition and ideal climatic conditions. Each region is fortunate to have a wide range of temperatures and soil types, allowing the brilliant variety of grapes to thrive here.

Wine & Vintage Details

Tasting Note

Our 2016 The Leap Cabernet Sauvignon captures the distinctive personality of our estate vineyard and this incredible vintage, crafting a darkly intense, multilayered, rich and approachable wine with depth of fruit, plushness and creamy richness. This wine is classic Stags Leap District Cabernet, offering blackberry, blueberry and macerated strawberry aromas on the nose, along with subtle baking spice notes of cinnamon, milk chocolate and coffee, alongside more savory notes of black olive and chaparral herbs. On the palate, there is elegance, freshness and complexity, showing lifted dark blackberry, blueberry and black raspberry fruits followed by hints of chocolate, espresso and black pepper spice. With big, round, mouth-pleasing tannins and a silky, smooth lithe texture, this Cabernet exhibits the iconic power and intensity that have become synonymous with Stags Leap estate wines but drinks elegantly, demonstrating the opulence and grace of the estate.

Tasting Notes For Frank Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

A beautiful wine from a near-perfect vintage, this robust Cabernet Sauvignon shows balance and complexity a blend of dark berry, generous oak notes, clove, and nutmeg. This is a supple and complex wine, full-bodied in style, with a punch of power, ripeness, and elegance from start to finish.Sourced primarily from our family-owned S& J Vineyard in Napas Capell Valley and our Benjamin Vineyard located on the valley floor in the heart of Rutherford. Additional vineyard sources include neighboring Quarry Vineyard and Round Pond Estate both in Rutherford as well as Delouise and Shooting Star Vineyard located in Napa Valley. Our goal is to make a complete, balanced wine. Cabernet Sauvignon is a great grape, its the king of Napa Valley after-all. But it can benefit from the addition of other grapes, like Merlot which adds some softness. Together you get the whole package.

If youve ever been out to the Napa Valley, Frank Family Winery is a must stop. Its right off of Larkmead Lane in Calistoga along the Napa River, with an elevated tasting room overlooking rolling acres of planted vineyards. Unlike some of the other over-the-top Napa stops, Frank Family chooses to focus on their wines rather than all the bells and whistles. Most of the people who work there have been there for ages.

One of those people is winemaker, Todd Graff, who for the last 18 years has run the wine program at Frank Family. Unlike most, Todd has been on both the winemaking and the vineyard management side giving him a decisive advantage over most of his Napa neighbors. Todd joined FF after stints at Joseph Phelps, Schramsberg, Artesa and Stags Leap Cellars. Its as impressive of a resume as a winemaker can have. But even with all his knowledge, he still treats every vintage like its his first carefully surveying the land and following Mother Natures lead. His wines are consistently fantastic.

If you havent made it out there yet and are unlikely to do so anytime soon, you can still enjoy the fruits of Todds labor today at Nicholas Wines. With restaurants temporarily closed down nationwide, the opportunity presented itself for me to get my hands on five cases of the 2016 Frank Family Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

What Is The Wine Region Of Lodi Famous For

Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 || Napa Valley || Decants With D

The region of Lodi is famous for its powerful Cabernet Sauvignon.

This tight-knit wine region is nestled between San Francisco Bay and the Sierra Nevada mountains. It is considered to be the next up-and-coming region of the States, as several innovative winemaking techniques and wines are emerging here.

The regions real focus is the ability to produce cost-effective wines, with 80% of the vines being Cabernet Sauvignon. However, the region also produces interesting expressions of Chardonnay, Viognier, Albariño, Zinfandel and Grenache.

For Lodi to produce grapes with such success, they are reliant on the warm summers and the cooling effect that the Delta offers their vineyards. This key combination of warm sun and a cooling breeze, ensures perfect ripening of their grapes, without losing any refreshing acidity.

From its ancestral homeland in southwest France, to the sun-drenched vineyards of California and Washington, to emerging footholds in Tuscany, Australia, and South Africa, cabernet sauvignon stakes a fair claim as the most beloved wine grape in the world. A recent study revealed that its now the worlds most widely-planted grape variety, up from fourth place as recently as 1990 .

Besides consumer preference shifting toward so-called varietal wines, another cause for cabernet sauvignons meteoric rise is that its relatively easy to grow the grape berries are known for their thick skin and natural ability to flourish in a wide range of climates. More important than its ease of cultivation, however, is the fact that cabernet sauvignon is simply delicious. Bold and sturdy, with satisfying dark fruit flavors and big tannic character, its a crowd-pleasing favorite thats almost never absent from a restaurant wine list .

Blended with 13% Merlot and smaller amounts of Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, this is a focused and youthfully grippy wine, showing a fervor of succulent red- and black-currant and licorice. Thick, rich and intensely structured, it possesses a mineral-like earthiness of crushed rock and enduring structure. Virginie Boone

Best California: 2014 Heitz Cellar Marthas Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Region: Oakville, Napa Valley, California | ABV: 14.5% | Tasting Notes: Bay leaf, Cedar, Red currant

Heitz Cellar is a jewel among Napa Valley wine producers, and Marthas Vineyard cabernet is their flagship bottle. Aged five years in French Limousin oak barrels, this wine is made with intensely purple grape berries from an exclusive Oakville vineyard situated within its unique micro-climatemeaning this is one exemplary wine. Every vintage since 1966 is coveted by collectors, but 2014 was a particularly good year for this cabernet.

Positively a classic with true cabernet herbal aromas of bay leaf, cedar, mint, and flavors of raspberry, red currant, sassafras, dark chocolate and eucalyptus. Sweet, svelte tannins find a long, dry finish supported by mouthwatering acidity. Best of all, you could be drinking this and enjoying it 50 years from now!

Iw Harper Cabernet Cask Reserve Review

Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Cabernet Sauvignon Casks90 Proof

Please enjoy our IW Harper Cabernet Cask Reserve Bourbon Review!

I.W. Harper Bourbon History

IW Harper whiskey was first produced by the Bernheim Brothers Distillery back in the late 1870s. You may be familiar with the name Bernheim. Theres the Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, KY, where Heaven Hill currently produces its whiskeys, Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest and Bernheim Original Wheat Whiskey, also produced by Heaven Hill. So who was this Bernheim?

Who was this I.W. Bernheim?

Well, Isaac Wolfe Bernheim was a German-Jewish immigrant who first arrived in the US back in 1867. He was not a distiller at the time. He eventually found work as a bookkeeper either for two distillers or a wholesale liquor company, depending on which source you believe. Eventually, after earning enough money, he brought his brother to the US and the two started a distillery of their own, called Bernheim Bros. They eventually started blending whiskey and released a brand of their own.

Whats with the I.W. Harper name?

So why is this brand called I.W. Harper and not I.W. Bernheim? Well, because of the social climate and prejudices at that time, the Bernheim Brothers felt that it was best to have an American sounding name. So I.W. Harper was born.

I W Harper Cabernet Cask Reserve Bourbon

Kentucky- Finished in Cabernet Sauvignon Casks and then aged for a second time in luxury Cabernet casks. The result is a wonderfully complex bourbon with flavorful bursts of toasted vanilla, ripe fruit and spice, for an exceptionally clean, lingering, smooth finish and a rich character.

2 oz.

Muddle sugar and 1 orange peel in glass. Add bitters and bourbon. Stir well. Add ice cubes and stir again. Garnish with fresh orange peel.

Bourbon, Americas native spirit, traces its heritage to immigrants who brought their whiskey-making skills to the American colonies in the 18th century. Rye was the crop of choice for them, because it was easier to establish than the traditional barley. But when settlers pushed west to Kentucky, which had gained a reputation for fertile soil and pure spring waters, corn became the base material for their whiskey, and it established a style that Kentucky could call its own.

Although its historically affiliated with Kentucky, Bourbon today may be made anywhere in the United States, so long as producers follow a recipe and process that is set by law.
