How Does It Work

While people are more familiar now with the concept of stores offering alcohol delivery through Instacart, some are still fuzzy on how the whole operation works.

When it comes to buying alcohol, which you need to present a valid I.D. for in the United States, there is a particular protocol for ordering this substance in delivery order.

Firstly, you should note that there are limitations to when you can order alcohol delivery through Instacart.

In Atlanta specifically, 9AM until midnight is the typical time frame. However, if a local store you want to order from closes early or closes for a special holiday, you might not be able to order alcohol at a certain time.

Drinks To Your Door: Publix Instacart Roll Out Home Liquor Delivery

Feeling boozy but lazy? Good news: Tampa Bay’s alcohol delivery options just got a little bigger. Publix is now offering liquor delivery from select locations around Florida.

“Everything about online ordering and delivering is about providing choices for your customers,” Publix spokesperson Brian West said. “Choices and convenience.”

Publix customers will be able to order liquor either online or on Publix’s mobile app, the same app through which groceries can be ordered. When people search for a store in their area, a “Publix Liquors” option will pop up if it is available nearby.

“It was just another opportunity to add yet another option for our customers,” West said.

The new offering which rolled out Nov. 15 builds on the Lakeland grocery chain’s existing beer and wine delivery. Publix currently delivers beer and wine through Instacart in Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Liquor currently has a smaller delivery radius. About 200 Publix locations offer it, and those are all in Florida. Several of Tampa Bay’s Publix locations will be included. But expect that radius to grow in the near future, Publix’s West said.

Ordering liquor works similarly to ordering other groceries from Publix online. Shoppers can choose the items they want to purchase, enter payment information and choose delivery.

And liquor orders must be separate from grocery orders. The two can’t be combined.

West wasn’t sure how such a requirement would be enforced.

Following a gradual rollout, Instacart has expanded same-day delivery of alcohol through grocery retailers and liquor and beverage stores in 14 states and the District of Columbia.

Instacart said Tuesday that customers can now have beer, wine or spirits delivered in as soon as an hour from supermarket chains such as Albertsons, Kroger, Publix, Schnucks and Stater Bros. as well as specialty stores like BevMo!, Binnys Beverage Depot and Total Wine & More in select locations.

The San Francisco-based online grocery provider originally began alcohol delivery with a small number of retail partners but noted that it has expanded the service substantially over the past year.

Instacart alcohol delivery is now offered in the states of California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Virginia and Washington, along with Washington, D.C. The company said it will launch alcohol delivery in more states, where permitted.
