The first Chardonnay icewine made by Royal DeMaria, it is made from grapes that are frozen on the vine, prior to fermentation. Due to its intensive production, the wine bears a great price tag. A pale yellow color, the company describes it as having a light nose of honeyed oak.
Part of the Billy Byers series, only 60 bottles of this particular wine was ever made. In 2002, one of these bottles were given to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth during her Jubilee Visit to Canada. Four years later, another was sold to a Saudi price for an alleged $30,000a staggering price, seeing as how typical icewines sell for $25 to $150 each!

To help with this, a senior winemaking staff will accompany the buyer to their place. The Block 42 Cabernet Sauvignon ampoules are the most expensive wines to be retailed directly from a winery.

The record for most expensive single bottle of wine ever sold goes to an imperial-sized bottle of 1947 Cheval Blanc. Despite being a very hot vintage, it is considered by many to be the finest wine of the century. This famed Saint-Émilion wine was purchased in 2010 by a private collector at a Christies auction in Geneva for 192,00 British pounds.

This famed bottle was technically never sold. The price paid, in fact, was a 1989 insurance payout to a wine merchant who brought the bottle to the Four Seasons in New York, only to have it dropped by a server. It was one of the famed Thomas Jefferson bottles, which were signed with the initials Th.J but never actually authenticated as part of Jeffersons personal collection.

The fabled vines of the Romanee Conti were destroyed by Phylloxera, a pest of commercial vineyards, just after the end of the Second World War. After the victory and right before the outbreak in 1946, only 600 bottles were manufactured before the vineyards could release wine again in 1952. While a bottle is sold for an average $7,600, the one originally owned by DRC owner Aubert de Villaine and donated to Christieâs fetched 123,900 in the 2007 auction in Geneva, Switzerland.

The sales along with a bottle of whiskey that sold at Sotheby’s on Saturday for $843,200 shows that demand for the rarest and best trophy wines and spirits remains strong despite global stock market jitters and trade wars. Demand for the top vintage French wines especially Burgundy is largely being driven by China, so the sales also suggest that while China’s economy may be slowing, China’s rich are still spending.
Sotheby’s described the 1945 vintage as “concentrated and exotic, with seemingly everlasting power a wine at peace with itself.”
