Stella Rosa And Its Sweet Wines

Stella Rosa Black Wine Review

This historical winery is omnipresent in the Californian market, and for a good reason. Its hitmaker, its semi-sweet and semi-sparkling Moscato dAsti, is beloved by many. Their other creations, from earthy reds to fresh white wines, are just as famous. If you wish to change it up a bit and discover other bottles with a similar taste pattern, follow along.

Stella Rosa Was Saved By The Church

Like many savvy winemakers during the parched years of Prohibition, the Riboli family looked for any legitimate reason to make wine. Many wineries made sacramental wine to get through the dry years. The Riboli family followed suit, making legal wine for a nearby Catholic church until Prohibition ended in 1933. Stella Rosa would launch about 70 years later.

In Piedmont, Italy, there is a redwine made from the Brachetto grape and other grapes. The oak barrels allow the wine to mature at various intervals throughout the year. The wine is then aged in the barrels for a minimum of two years before being bottled. StellaRosa is one of the most sought-after wines in Italy. It is produced by a small family-owned winery, and is available year-round.

What Type Of Wine Is Stella Rosa

Stella Rosa produces a number of different types of wine, but its most popular varieties are semi-sweet, semi-sparkling wines. While the brand also produces fully sparkling wines , the brand is best known for its light, spritzy, and semi-sweet wines, also known as frizzante, or semi-sparkling.

The original product was a half-sweet, half-sparkling Moscato dAsti, followed by the brands Rosso red. Since these original varieties, Stella Rosa has expanded to include a variety of styles and flavors. Nowadays, its most popular wines are Moscato Sparkling, Bianco, Berry, Peach, Moscato Rose, and Platinum French Vanilla. The winemaker also produces a variety of fruit flavors, such as Pineapple, Red Apple, Ruby Rose Grapefruit, Orange, and Mango.

Stella Rosa specializes in semi-sweet semi-sparkling wines, but they also have a number of different wines. Most notably, it produces full-sparkling wines, which they denote by the moniker Imperiale. These sparkling wines include varieties such as Imperiale Rosso Lux, Imperiale Pearl Lux, Imperiale Prosecco, Imperiale Prosecco Rose, Imperiale Orange Moscato, and Imperiale Brachetto DAcqui Docg.

Stella Rosa also produces non-alcoholic wines, coming in the flavors Black, Peach, Red, and Rose.

Stella Rosa Wines Are More Than Sweet

Granted, the Ribolis were answering a call for sweeter, friskier wines when they created the Stella Rosa lineup, but just because theres sugar there doesnt mean there arent other flavors. Among some of the more poetically descriptive tasting notes youll find about any of the Stella Rosa lineup: brisk lime spritz, crème de cassis, chalk, peach pie crust, raspberry Pez, rose petals, and blackberry Italian soda.

The original Stella Rosa was a half-sweet, half-sparkling Moscato dAsti, followed by the Stella Rosa Rosso red, but over the years, the Riboli family has put together a rainbow of Stella Rosa wines with a variety of styles and flavors . Theres even an award-winning Brachetto dAcqui from its full-sparkling Imperiale lineup. No word on where the rainbow ends.

Where Is The Piedmont Wine Region

The Piedmont wine region is located in Northwest Italy.

The Piedmont region sits along the Alps and is surrounded by several other regions, including Lombardia and Emilia-Romagna in the east, Liguria in the south, Switzerland in the north, and France in the west.

While these countries and regions have added their own influence on Piedmont, the region has managed to stand its own and set itself apart from any other surrounding area.

Stella Rosa And The Rise Of Sparkling Wines

Stella Rosa Black & Blueberry Wine Tasting | SippSation | #StellaBrate!

Stella Rosa became famous for its semi-sparkling wines that come from the Charmat method. Rather than fermenting twice in the bottle, like for the creation of Champagne, semi-sparkling wines are fermented directly in the tank. This results in fruity and zesty wines with a flavorful palate. This method originates from Italy and has become very popular in recent years.

Stella Rosa Gets Its Bubbles The Same Way Prosecco Does

Stella Rosa wines arent full-on bubbly like Champagne. Theyre frizzante, or semi-sparkling, the result of arrested fermentation. And that fermentation is done by the Charmat method, a.k.a., the tank method, wherein wine undergoes fermentation en masse, as opposed to bottle by bottle. This results in cleaner, more fruit-forward wines .

Stella Rosa The Star Was Born

To create the Stella Rosa wines, our family chose the region of Asti, a province in Piedmont, Italy, as the source for its aromatic grapes, which have become the hallmark for the Stella Rosa style of wines. From there, our first Stella Rosa wine was Moscato DAsti, which has become a flagship of this line.

Soon after, Stella Rosa Rosso was created the brands first semi-sweet, semi-sparkling red wine blend, and first wine of its kind to be brought to America from Asti. The rapid phenomenal successes of these two wines began the lineage of Stella Rosa, which now boasts over 20 distinctive flavors.

What Red Wine Is Piedmont Known For

Piedmont is most known for its red wine from Nebbiolo and Barbera.

Not only is Nebbiolo one of the most planted varieties in Piedmont, but it also forms the pillar for the regions premium wines.

Barbaresco and Barolo, which are two of the regions finest red wines, are both made from Nebbiolo.

Both the Piedmont Barolo wine and Barbaresco light in color, but offer vastly different experiences. On the palate, Barolo offers a fuller, richer mouthfeel and is considered more serious. While the Barbaresco is slightly brighter and youthful making it the easier-drinking wine between the two.

Regardless of which style the wine is made, Nebbiolo is most associated with aromas of tar and rose petals, and is enjoyed at its best after several years of bottle ageing.

Other than the renowned Nebbiolo wines, Piedmont also produces several different red varieties that have become iconic Italian wines. This includes Barbera, which has become one of the regions most planted grape varieties. What separates Barbera from Nebbiolo wines is its ability to drink well even after only a couple of years of ageing. The tannins are naturally softer, while the acidity remains vibrant and fresh.

The Grapes Have 1000 Years On Cabernet

Stella Rosa wines are meant to be easy-drinking, but that doesnt mean they lack depth of character. For instance, Stella Rosa flagship wine Moscato dAsti is made with Moscato grapes, a.k.a., Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains, a grape varietal thats actually more than a thousand years older than Cabernet Sauvignon.

Does Stella Rosa Get You Drunk

    Stella Rosa Black

Yes, Stella Rosa wines will get you drunk. However, due to their arrested fermentation process, they typically have significantly less alcohol than more traditional wines. Most Stella Rosa wines are between 5% and 6% ABV, which is more typical of beer than wine. A traditional wine will be closer to 12% or 13% ABV. So that means, youll need over twice as much Stella Rosa wine to get the same effect as a standard wine.

Some Stella Rosa wines are higher ABV, with one of its flagship varietiesStella Rosa Royaleclocking in at 8% ABV. This is still much lower than regular wine, but it may be a happy middle ground if youre looking for a lighter option than traditional wine that packs a bit more punch than the more popular Stella Rosa varieties.

Stella Rosa also produces non-alcoholic wines, coming in the flavors Black, Peach, Red, and Rose. These are unlikely to be confused for their alcoholic counterparts because they are clearly labeled as non-alcoholic, and they come in opaque bottles, as opposed to other wines, which come in translucent glass bottles.
