Horse Heaven Hillsprosser Washington State
Located between Yakima Valley and the Columbia River, Double Canyon Vineyard sits in the Horse Heaven Hills appellation which has a dry desert landscape. The vineyard is planted primarily to Bordeaux varietals and Syrah.
The weather in the Horse Heaven Hills is influenced by the close proximity to the Columbia River, which creates sweeping winds and other distinctive weather patterns that protect the vines from extreme temperatures, fungal disease, and pests. Double Canyon Vineyard has sandy, quick-draining loam soils.
With the elevations ranging from 300 to 1,800 feet above sea level, a northern longitude and many south-facing slopes, the vineyards here receive an extended amount of daylight and experience cool evenings which helps the fruit ripen, developing concentration and also preserving natural acidity.
Vineyard Manager Will Beightol manages 90 acres of planted vines on Double Canyon Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hill AVA of Washington State.

Vintage Double Canyon Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Experts identify it as one of the regions with greatest potential to grow Cabernet Sauvignon, Horse Heaven Hills is characterised by a dry desert landscape influenced by the moderating effect of the Columbia River, along which it sits. The continuously blowing winds provide a natural drying effect that controls yields and disease pressure and therefore the area is particularly suited for sustainable, chemical-free viticulture. Although it is one of Washington states warmest appellations, the rivers cooling effect allows for an ideal diurnal-nocturnal temperature shift that promotes optimal phenolic ripeness and balanced acidity.
Its in the heart of this privileged terroir that Double Canyon Vineyard was planted in 2007, with a careful selection of Bordeaux varietal clones.
With a density double that of the regions standard to promote plant competition and naturally reduce yields, Double Canyon produces pristine fruit, with flavour complexity, depth and concentration.
