BEST WINE APPS – Top 3 Wine Apps [2021]

The best way to efficiently manage a wine collection is with an inventory scanning system. By pairing each bottle with a barcode, information only needs to be entered into the system once. When you first introduce the bottle into your wine cellar organization app, youll input its information into the system.

Great Choice For Serious Enthusiasts

My third wine app and finally Ive found one that allows me to map my cellar graphically, track bottles by precise location and track maturity and apogée for optimum cellaring. Too many useful features to list. The combination of synchronized cloud and app is unbeatable. While the app doesnt have the depth of information about wines the big sites do, I have yet to find one that does a good job of accurately combining and filtering all the crowdsourced junk information from users that arent matching vintages and bottles exactly. I also dont care what people I dont know think about a particular wine, but thats just me. For me, Id rather enter the basic/key attributes myself and then link winery-sourced information from the web and PDFs directly in the app. I did most of the basic entry from my laptop with copy/paste making it something that took just a few days for more than 300 different wines. I also did bulk uploads from my old app extracts and that worked flawlessly. Maybe its not for everyone, but I put a premium on accuracy of data about the wine I buy and cellar.

What Your Software Should Do For You

As a minimum the wine cellar software should:

  • track wines going in and coming out of the cellar
  • give you the drinking window
  • show you the location of a particular bottle in your cellar
  • keep your inventory secure from prying eyes – unless you allow it

In fact many of the software brands do so much more than that, and include options like:

  • managing multiple cellars for those with vacation homes or an off-site cellar
  • check out the winery website of each wine
  • estimate the value of your wine collection
  • show your purchase price for each wine
  • view the tasting notes you and others have made
  • the option to use barcode labels and scanner
  • popular food and wine pairings

Best Wine App For Most People

Why we like it: The most crowd-sourced reviews and ratings along with tons of information in a user-friendly app. Plus, it lets you order wine for delivery.

I will never walk into a wine store without this app, and you shouldn’t either. There are a number of apps that let you scan a wine label to get information about the wine, but we found the Vivino Wine Scanner app provides the most useful information. It also has more users than any other app , so you’re getting extremely valuable crowd-sourced ratings and reviews, even on some pretty obscure bottles.

After you take a photo of a label, it gives you an average rating and price so you know if you are holding a good wine at a good price. You can also scan the text of a wine list should you find yourself clueless in a restaurant. In addition to rating and price, Vivino provides notes about the type of grape used in the wine, info about the winery that made the wine and a variety of additional rankings for that wine within its winery, region, country and world.

And since I last looked at the app, Vivino has added the ability to buy wine through the app or web platform and have it delivered to your door. Shipping generally costs between $12 and $15 per order but is free if you spend a certain amount. The free shipping benchmark varies based on the seller but is typically around $160.

Vivino Wine Scanner is available for iOS and Android.

What’s Next For Cellartracker

Track And Manage Your Wine Cellar With These Apps

CellarTracker isn’t in the Vivino league just yet. Its website hasn’t changed much in the past nine years. Light yellow and burgundy backgrounds set a predictable theme, with text cast in longstanding Microsoft fonts such as Georgia and Verdana. The company released its mobile apps in 2014. The homepage shows a photo of LeVine’s personal cellar.

Profile pages for individual wines display user-generated “community tasting notes” and scores on the wine world’s 100-point scale, the percentage of bottles that users have consumed and drinking windows. People can add or remove wines from cellars, post public or private notes, upload label images, submit food-pairing suggestions and view similar popular wines.

Before a redesign in 2012, there were no notifications, no miniature profiles while hovering over wines and no side panels containing rich information next to search results. To appease those who don’t appreciate change, LeVine introduced a classic mode that provided access to the old interface.

“We have people who are like, ‘Don’t ever take the classic site away, and don’t change a thing,'” he said. “There’s always a subset of people like that. If you only listen to those folks, maybe they’re going to be the only people using the site someday.”

While the site is familiar to old timers, it’s not a cutting-edge internet property that attracts millions of new users each month. And it isn’t doing much with its data, which other companies can’t easily replicate.

Delectable Wines Wine Scanner Ratings & Reviews

I originally downloaded the Delectable wine app as I noticed many winos in Perth were using it. So its great to keep in touch with what everyone around me is drinking. I have now logged over 1,700 wines and I am a premium member. See my Delectable profile here

Pros:

  • View ratings, reviews and prices based on uploading/taking a photo of a wine
  • You can like and comment on your friends wines alongside tagging friends and locations
  • You can easily find how many wines youve rated
  • If the app cant/wrongly identifies your wine you can submit it for a manual review which Ive found typically takes less than an hour and in the meantime you can still put in your tasting note in the moment
  • If you dont touch the rating bar when putting in your review it wont give an out of 10 rating, for me this works!
  • Taste Insights
  • You can go back and edit your review and any details at a later date if you need to

Top 3 Apps to Help You Buy Wine | Faylene’s World

My review here risks sounding negative as this app frustrates me due to its ancient design. The fonts, the look, is all awkward. It reminds me of the binary computers where you had to program the video games in them before getting to play them.

OK, thats not fair because its not that bad. You can check out the screen shots left and below to form your own opinion on its design.

However, this is the app that I use the most!

Thats because Cellar Tracker keeps track of wines in my cellar that are tucked away into boxes. I would have no idea where they were there if I hadnt taken the time to input them here .

Another feature that makes Cellar Tracker one of the best free apps for writing tasting notes is that it allows you to view your wines as a restaurant wine list!

The wine menu begins with your Sparkling wines, then moves through your whites, then rosés and finally reds and then your dessert wines.

You also get to choose the style of the menu. For example, if you want to select an old world wine, you can view your cellar under Restaurant Style Wine List and select Traditional .

You can also view them as Grouped by Varietals or by Grouped by location and bin and many others.

Drizly Get Wine Delivered In An Hour

Drizly is one of the no-nonsense alcohol delivery apps out there. And I agree with its philosophy when you can have an app to deliver your food, why not an app for your alcohol? This online market app offers same-day delivery across 100 cities in North America with the option for pre-paid pick-up. It may also take 2-3 days for shipping in select states.

Obviously, you must be of the legal drinking age and provide valid ID proof upon delivery when ordering from Drizly. But it is a great option to order beer, wine, and liquor online.

Why should you try it?

  • An extensive selection of beer, wine, and liquor.
  • Offers online payment options.

Adding Wines Accurately Is Just Too Much Work

VinoCells app works great and is powerful but since you cannot accurately add many wines without a lot of legwork, it is a nightmare to use. My primary point here is that there are too many matches to choose from when searching for a wine in the app. When searching for wines I have purchased, that I am trying to enter into my cellar, there are many times just too many scattered matches many users have entered their own version of a vintage release, so picking the right one with the most accurate information is a daunting task. Basically, if someone volunteered to enter all of my wines for me, I would use this app for my cellar management but only then. I overlooked all of this because I wanted an app that shows the visual layout of all of my wine racks in my cellar. This app can do that portion and do it somewhat well, but in the end I just need to be able to know exactly where every bottle is placed in my cellar and be able to quickly add new wines as accurately as possible. CT is still the best app out there for this. I do wish CT had some aspects of VinoCells interface but in the end, accurate and thorough organization and barcode/label matching is the clear winning component of CTs features which unfortunately still beats all the other competition out there in app-based cellar management.

A Barcode Scanning System

Initially setting up an organized wine cellar is all well and good, but a big part of wine cellar management is coordinating its moving parts. The best way to efficiently manage a wine collection is with an inventory scanning system.

Most scanning systems are either apps or handheld scanning devices. Ideally, a wine cellar app has the option to use both. The wine cellar organization app itself for quick one-off or low-volume usage and a handheld scanner for lightning-fast, high-volume usage.

Once information is input and scanning is in place, wine cellar management becomes a succession of quick scans instead of a wrestling match with a physical cellar book. Youâre saving a ton of time and making your life a lot easier. But it doesnât end there. Every piece of information you enter and scan is recorded. And you can draw some valuable conclusions with it.
