BareFoot Wines Red Moscato Review ð?·

Region: Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France | ABV: 14% | Tasting Notes: Red currants, Blood orange, Dried raspberries, Baking spice

One of the top names in all of Burgundy is Louis Latour, and one of the most unique wines it produces is this Château Corton Granceya blend of four Grand Cru vineyards .

Delivering profound notes of black and red currants, blackberry fruit, blood orange citrus, and dried raspberries underscored by baking spices and dried red florals, this pinot noir is also a textural masterpiece with mouthwatering acidity and grippy cedar-like tannins.

Good to Know:

When it comes to red wine, balance is a non-negotiable for Alexandra Neverov, sommelier at Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton, New York. For me, there has to be this unspoken equilibrium in a great red wine, from tannins to alcohol to acid and fruit balance, she says. Neverov also goes for reds with pronounced aromatics. If I find myself entranced, then I feel that wine can be truly enchanting.

The Best Red Wines For Beginners (Series): #3 Merlot

Region: Rhône Valley | ABV: 14.5% | Tasting Notes: Black cherry, Red licorice, Earth, Warm cinnamon

From an ancient property at the cornerstone of four appellations in Frances Southern Rhône, near the town of Gigondas and situated in Mont Ventoux, comes this absolute marvel of a wine. Owners Nicole and Xavier Rolet are incapable of making a bad wine, and incredibly, they’ve taken the extraordinary step of aging their wine for a generous amount of time prior to release. The vintage they currently have on the market is the 2012, but its terribly hard to find. Luckily, the 2011 is up for grabs: A decade-aged Rhône red consisting mostly of grenache, it is a testament to the efforts of these renegade vintners.

Wild red berry fruit, blackberry jam, French vanilla bean and garrigue layered with cigar box spices. Silky soft, elongated tannins support a panoply of flavors, from warm cinnamon and brown sugar spices to curry powder-dusted red berry fruit, with generous dollops of black cherry and red licorice. It finishes with grippy acidity and vivid earthy notes.

    Grapes And Wine Regions

While moscato is known as a popular white wine, it’s really just the Italian word for an entire family of grapes. Muscat grapes can be made into still, sparkling, red, white, sweet, and fortified wines. Moscato bianco, the family of white muscat grapes including muscat blanc, Alexandria, and blanc à petits grains, has been cultivated for hundreds of years. These grapes are used to make the popular DOCG-certified moscato d’Asti as well as Asti spumante . DOCG stands for “Denominazione di origine controllata e garantita,” orcontrolled and guaranteed designation of origin.” It means the wine is made in a specific region according to specific quality regulations.

Regulations specify that both styles can only be produced in Italy’s Piedmont region. The grapes thrive in sunny, dry days and cool nights and are harvested mid to late season depending on the variety and location.

There are a number of different varieties of moscato wine produced in Italy alone:

    • Moscato d’Asti: Lightly sparkling , lightly sweet, low-alcohol white wine
    • Asti: Also known as Asti spumante Sparkling white wine with about nine percent alcohol
    • Moscato di Pantelleria: Amber wine made on the island of Pantelleria a dessert version made from dried grapes is called Passito.
    • Moscato Rosa: A sweet red wine from the Trentino-Alto Aldige region of Italy with flavors of berries and spice

    American moscato wines can include:

Red Wines from Lightest to Boldest

Just 32 red wine varieties make up a majority of the wine available in the marketplace. If all red wines were placed on this chart, there would be hundreds!

Where does boldness in wine come from?

A combination of several fundamental traits in wine define how bold it is. For example, the tannin level in wine indicates boldness, and so alcohol level. Higher alcohol wines tend to taste bolder.

On the other hand, wines with lower alcohol, less tannin, and higher acidity are lighter-bodied.

While Moscato dAsti may ring a few bells, Moscato wine is not a commonly enjoyed wine anymore. Shooting to popularity in the 1970s and 80s, this low-alcohol Italian wine was everyones fizzy wine of choice if they couldnt afford Champagne. However, Prosecco seems to have taken the crown for the cheaper alternative.

But Moscato wine is about much more than Asti it actually comes in a wide range of styles, including sweet wine, red wine, and even rosé.

In this article well guide you through what Moscato wine is, where it is from, what it tastes like, and why were not quite ready to let go of this retro wine just yet.

    Taste And Flavor Profile

Most widely available moscato wine is made in the style of moscato d’Asti. The frizzante wine is known for its perfume-like fragrance, light-body, low alcohol content, and dazzling fruit-forward profile with a welcoming sweet factor. Moscato’s inherent aromatics include orange blossom, honeysuckle, almonds, and ginger with flavors of ultra-expressive fruit like green grapes, citrus, and ripe peach. The delicate cascade of bubbles, light body, and sweetness make it a refreshing addition to brunch, a hot summer day, or even dessert.

The white wine is low in tannins, but there are red wine grapes in the muscat family. Black muscat can be used to make a red moscato with berry and floral notes, although it’s not particularly common. Most moscato wines are white, with varying levels of sweetness, acidity, and bubbles.
