How To Sell Wine Online
If you own a winery and have your own wine label, then selling wine online is just another channel of sales and revenue. You can either become a merchant/seller on existing eCommerce alcohol selling platforms or launch your own online wine selling platform.
If you register for a third-party eCommerce platform, you need to pay a commission on every sale you get from that platform. While building your own platform is a costly affair in which you own all the profits.

Research Your States Current Liquor Laws
If your brewery is already up and running, youve already gone through the process of getting your liquor license from the appropriate state licensing board. To incorporate local delivery into your services, you may need to dig a little deeper to find out how.
Certain states have passed laws explicitly allowing home delivery of alcohol, but many states laws state neither whether it is forbidden or allowed. If your states laws do not address home delivery, the licensing board likely has set processes to deal with the issue.

Completing The License Application
This is the most crucial step to obtaining a liquor license in Texas. Youll need to fill out the proper packet for a new license or to reinstate an existing license, and youll need to ensure that the packet is for the correct type of business .
Youll also need to have a few things in place already before you can complete a Texas liquor license application. For instance, youll need a Federal Employer Identification Number , which means your business must be registered with the federal government and the state of Texas before you apply for a liquor license.
The application form is very thorough, and typically includes the following information:
- How the business was financed
- Whether you own/lease the business property
- All vehicles that would be transporting alcohol
- Whether someone listed on the application has been involved in certain specified illegal activity
- Names and contact information of all owners/proprietors
The liquor license application form covers much more than weve listed here, and can be fairly complex for new business owners to wrap their heads around. It may be wise to consult with a business attorney licensed in the state of Texas to ensure you complete the application correctly.
While waiting for the license to arrive, you may be required to post a 60-day notice prominently on your business property, alerting others to the fact that your business will serve/sell alcohol.
Youll also need to determine what type of liquor license you need to apply for.

Shipping alcohol in-state is the simplest alcohol shipping method but is still convoluted and confusing.
Since you wont be crossing state lines, youll only need to meet the alcohol shipping requirements of the state youre located in. However, you will need to be familiar with the local city laws for the different towns and municipalities in your state. Luckily, alcohol distributors should already be familiar with their local laws regarding alcohol production, distribution, and sales.
Consumers can also use one of the many alcohol e-commerce and delivery app companies such as Drizly or WineDirect to order alcohol directly to their home or to send beer, wine, or spirits to a friend.

Can I Sell My Homemade Wine
Hello there! I’m Dr. Vinifera, but you can call me Vinny. Ask me your toughest wine questions, from the fine points of etiquette to the science of winemaking. And don’t worry, I’m no wine snobyou can also ask me those “dumb questions” you’re too embarrased to ask your wine geek friends! I hope you find my answers educational, empowering and even amusing. And don’t forget to check out my most asked questions and my full archives for all my Q& A classics.
Dear Dr. Vinny,
Can I sell my homemade wine? What kind of license do I need to obtain to do that?
The good news is that federal law permits adults to make up to 100 gallons of homemade wine per calendar year if you are the only adult living in the household, and up to 200 gallons if there are two or more adults in the household. The law also allows you to take your homemade wine off premise, for personal or family use including use at organized affairs, exhibitions or competitions, such as home winemaking contests, tastings or judgings.
Guess what it says you may not do, under any circumstance? Sell it.
If that doesnt sound complicated enough, this process is currently halted due to the partial federal government shutdown.
I dont mean to be discouraging, but I want to make sure you know what youre getting into. Theres much more information at the TTBs website, including online application forms. Good luck!

How To Start A Wine Business
There are two approaches to start a wine business. If you wish to start a wine business where you sell your own wine, you need to have a winery to make your own wine, package it, and sell from there.
There is another approach where you dont make your own wine but instead buy huge bulk of wines from different wineries on a wholesale rate and then sell it further to distributors and retailers with a decent profit margin.
The process of starting both kinds of wine businesses is explained in detail in the blog above.
Making The Process Simpler
