You Can Now Order Alcohol For Delivery Through Uber Eats

How To Use Uber Eats App to Order Food: How Does It Work?

Uber Eats will be offering alcohol delivery in Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby and New Westminster through its Uber Eats app starting at noon today.

Uber is excited to now offer local craft beer, B.C. wine, and selection from around the world to pair with your Uber Eats delivery, says Dan Park, general manager of Uber Eats Canada in a news release.

Customers will need to present two pieces of valid ID to the delivery person proving they are 19 years of age or older and alcohol delivery is available from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily.

If a person does not have valid ID their alcohol order will be returned to the store and the customer will be charged a $10 cancellation fee.

The app also has a built in limit to the amount of alcohol a person can order.

We are excited to offer our customers top quality beer that is delivered responsibly thanks to our partnership with Uber Eats,” says;Marissa Mills, marketing manager at Parallel 49 Brewing.

The company says it will expand its alcohol delivery service across the rest of Metro Vancouver and into Victoria, Esquimalt and Saanich in the coming weeks.

Uber Eats Enhances Alcohol Delivery Measures In Toronto

Uber Eats has announced enhanced measures for its new alcohol delivery option in Toronto, which is officially available from select eateries.

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario announced in March that temporarily, licensed restaurants and bars can sell alcohol with food takeout and delivery orders.

This new allowance applies to both direct orders from restaurants, and those made through a third-party such as a food delivery service or ordering platform.

Uber Eats is now offering delivery of alcohol with food orders from select Toronto restaurants, including Gusto 101 and Chubbys Jamaican Kitchen. In order to make the transition seamless, the company has implemented new practices for delivery.

Now, drivers will review customers photo ID and enter their date of birth into the app. At this time, however, couriers are not required to collect customer signatures to complete their deliveries.

These new in-app steps are meant to support couriers as they navigate a new type of delivery.

Uber is excited to offer beer, wine and liquor to pair with your favourite Uber Eats delivery, said Lola Kassim, General Manager of Uber Eats, in a release.

Whether its for a date-night-in or even a virtual happy hour, Ontarians can now have local and international beer, wine, and liquor delivered right to their door when they order through Uber Eats.

We Ate Our Way Through Postmates Grubhub Ubereats And Doordash To Find Out Exactly Who Can Get The Cheesiest Burrito To Your Door Before Your Roommate Gets Home And Judges The Hell Out Of You

The on-demand food delivery market is steadily growing and innovating, much like its rideshare cousin. While the jury is still out on who is the;dominant rideshare giant, many freelancers, students, side-hustlers, and everyone in between have turned to these non-traditional job opportunities to support themselves. Like the rideshare economy, on-demand food delivery service jobs allow individuals to set their own hours, work at their own pace, and make a living as independent contractors.

But what does that mean for the more traditional industries? Restaurant owners are still expected to deliver food. Tech companies are still designing products for purchase that must run efficiently, while balancing the growing, ever-evolving needs of their clients. And at the end of the day, everybody still has to gather their W2s and pay taxes.

I sought out to create a fact-based analysis of Postmates, Doordash, Grubhub, and UberEATS, four of the most popular food ordering apps for restaurants. This is meant to serve as a guide for those in the foodservice industry, freelancing community, app design community, and anyone else interested in the human element in one of the many sectors in the on-demand economy. As a reminder, this is;not;a contestmerely an unbiased comparison so those parties interested can choose the right service, part-time employer, or management tool best for them and their needs.

What To Consider When Making A Choice For Your Business

Drivers seem to consider Postmates the most unique service compared to UberEATS, Grubhub, and Doordash. They cite its corporate debit card as the biggest differentiator and feel that Postmates uses it as leverage versus its competitors.

From a drivers perspective, Doordash seems to intend for no delivery to ever be truly bad, as one driver told me. Its assumed that Doordash is adamant about drivers earning a respectable minimum fee per delivery so that each delivery is worth the drivers time and theyre not reliant on customer tips.

UberEATS is fairly synchronized with the larger-scale ridesharing aspect of the company. This makes it easy for Uber drivers to break up a day of dealing with passengers to continue earning money via delivery of another kind.

Grubhub was still;king of market share;as of summer 2017, but other services arent far behind. Still, Grubhub can use its market share to further leverage partnerships with other services and brands, as it did with Yelps Eat24 and Groupon.

For smaller companies, choosing DoorDash might be a better way to go as awareness and positive association with your food or products continues to grow, as they provide a high quality of service for both the customers and drivers. For larger companies, that corporate card wont be such a heavy burden.

In Some Cities You Can Order Uber Eats For Dine

Uber Eats was testing a dine-in option in select markets as of June 2019, including Dallas, Phoenix, and San Diego, according to;CBS News.;

The feature allows users to place their order through the Uber Eats app and eat their food in the restaurant, rather than have it delivered. Just like a traditional Uber Eats order, you’ll be notified when the restaurant has your order. And you’ll have the option to track your food until it is ready for you to pick up, according to Uber.;

The new service has benefits for the customers as well as the restaurants. Choosing to dine-in saves users the delivery and service fees they would typically pay for a traditional Uber Eats order, and helps customers looking to dine in find rated restaurants in their area. Instead, restaurants pay a fee to Uber that is usually lower than the standard delivery fee, according to Eater. The dine-in feature also helps restaurants who don’t have a delivery service get more customers in the door.;

Although placing your order ahead of time may save you some time when you dine out, you may find that some of the items on your restaurant’s menu may cost more, to help the restaurant compensate for Uber’s fees.;

A Way To Keep Staff On The Payroll

MyGuide: How to use Uber Eats App to order food

One of the most heart-breaking impacts of the COVID-19 dining restrictions has been the massive layoffs especially for FOH staff. Even for the restaurants successfully offering takeout and delivery, many are operating with fewer staff members on hand in order to keep costs to a minimum.

With alcohol delivery now an option in most states and provinces, restaurants need staff on hand to facilitate the deliveries. As a result, many restaurants have been able to keep existing certain individuals employed or rehire restaurant staff to carry out alcohol deliveries. Though most restaurants cannot hire back their entire staff, the ability to keep some staff on payroll can make a huge difference in the face of extreme economic uncertainty.

Uber Eats Is A Separate App

When you’re trying to juggle a million tasks at once, the ability to order a car and your favorite udon noodles in the same app may sound like a total win. But the folks at Uber think their food delivery service is so great that it’s worth an app of its own.;

Uber;first began testing a food delivery option as part of its ride-sharing service app. But in 2016, the company rolled out a separate platform for its food delivery service in the United States with the Uber Eats app, according to Fortune. The split was made in an effort to keep the user experience simple for the customer, and so that both arms of the company could take the time to focus and develop their own strengths.

If you have an Uber account, you can use the same login and payment information on the Uber Eats app, according to Ridester. However, customers will need to download the Uber Eats app separately, which is available to both iOS and Android users if they want to take advantage of the delivery service.;

You Can Track Your Uber Eats Order Along The Way

When you place an order on your Uber Eats app, you’ll never have to wonder when your food is going to arrive. And if your order takes longer than expected, you’ll know if it’s because of a delay at the restaurant, or the traffic on the way to your home. The app allows users to follow their food from the restaurant all the way to their door.;

From the moment you place your order, Uber Eats allows you to track the status of your food every step of the way, according to;Fast Company. The app will push updates on your meal to your phone in real-time, so you know exactly when the restaurant receives your order, when your food is being prepared, and finally when it is on its way. And just like its app cousin Uber, once your food is ready to go, you can track your delivery driver on a map through the Uber Eats app until your food shows up at your door.;;

Doordash has a;process in place;for ordering and delivering alcohol. It requires drivers to verify a customers ID and refuse delivery of alcohol to certain locations.
