Ripple wine is available on auction sites such as eBay, but I’m not sure if it would be in a drinkable condition, and there is no guarantee of its originality. However, expect to pay between $150 and $200.
Where can you buy Ripple Wine these days?
Ripple wine was manufactured by E.J. Gallo from 1960-1984. It was a very popular drink, although “real” wine lovers argued that it was more of a punch than a wine.
It may have been due to its low price that production stopped as maybe it was no longer viable, or it may have been pressure from the government as it was too cheap and easy for people to get drunk on the stuff!
It was certainly very popular with teenagers and the rising hippie movement who thought it a very “cool” drink. I think Ripple Wine was the “alcopops” of its day, so it started a bit of a trend. It was aimed at the young, and people who weren’t really keen on other alcoholic drinks.
TV and radio ads labelled it “the ice cold refresher with twice the pleasure, and, a little creepily perhaps, the wine that winks back at you.
The bottle had a ripple effect and eventually came in three flavours – original, pear and pagan pink. Gallo decided against putting their name on the bottle though which possibly speaks volumes regarding their own faith in the product!

I know Ripple best as a song by the Grateful Dead, but apparently there is nostalgia for the wine as well. The fortified and fizzy sweet wine concoction was produced by E & J. Gallo between 1960 and 1984. And, according to The Drinks Report, “Surviving bottles are extremely rare with unopened bottles, originally sold for $1, valued at between $150 and $200.”
If you do decide to spend two hundred dollars on a bottle of Ripple versus, say, Bordeaux or Burgundy, unfortunately I doubt that it will be as long-lived as storied and costly French vintage wines from the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
Speaking of vintage, check out this commercial for Ripple, appealing to “lively people” looking for “ring-a-ding flavor” in a wine that “winks back at you”. I never thought of the bubbles in sparkling wine as winking back at me but now I can’t get that image out of my head and I’m sort of freaked out.

How To Buy Ripple With Usd
According to the Ripple website, you can buy Ripple directly with your cash via your bank account or credit card. To get started:
Create an account on Bitstamp and enter the required information – a username and password is sent to your email.
Log in to your account with the username and password provided, and then immediately change your password when prompted. You may also want to enable two-factor authentication.
Then, verify your account by filling in the prompted information here. You may upload documents that fit the requirements. Hit “submit verification request.”
Once verified, go to your account and click the “deposit” button, where you will be able to select what bank transfer method you want to use on the left-hand side.
Select “international wire transfer” and fill out any information needed.
