Werby’s Champagne Review: Korbel Sweet Rosé.

Region: Alexander Valley, California | ABV: 13.9% | Tasting Notes: Toasty oak, Cassis, Wild herbs

For almost five decades, the Duncan family has shepherded Silver Oak Cellars on a continued path of perfection. Their Alexander Valley property is worth a visit to California alone, just to experience their LEED Certified Platinum winery and, of course, to taste their Alexander Valley Cabernet.

Classic Silver Oak layers of deeply delicious toasty oak notes are harnessed with vanilla, blackberry, cassis and violets, further revealing black currant and wild herb notes over time in the glass. Expect bold tannins, bold flavors and mind-boggling complexity.

Region: Mendocino County, California | ABV: 14% | Tasting Notes: Plum, Spice, Vanilla

Bonterras reputation in the beverage trade can be distilled into two major points: first, theyre committed to producing quality wines, and second, they were organic before it was cool. Yes, even as far back as 1987, Bonterra has made their wines without using pesticides. The extra effort is evident in their 2018 cabernet, an inspired feat from the originators of organic vino.

Expect flavors of cherry, plum, and spice with pretty oak notes tinged with vanilla. The wine has a hearty structure with soft acidity and a fresh finish.

Korbel Sweet Rose California Champagne

From its ancestral homeland in southwest France, to the sun-drenched vineyards of California and Washington, to emerging footholds in Tuscany, Australia, and South Africa, cabernet sauvignon stakes a fair claim as the most beloved wine grape in the world. A recent study revealed that its now the worlds most widely-planted grape variety, up from fourth place as recently as 1990 .

Besides consumer preference shifting toward so-called varietal wines, another cause for cabernet sauvignons meteoric rise is that its relatively easy to grow the grape berries are known for their thick skin and natural ability to flourish in a wide range of climates. More important than its ease of cultivation, however, is the fact that cabernet sauvignon is simply delicious. Bold and sturdy, with satisfying dark fruit flavors and big tannic character, its a crowd-pleasing favorite thats almost never absent from a restaurant wine list .

We Have Yet To Make Our Best Bottle Of Wine

Korbel Sweet Rose Champagne

Silver Oak is timeless. Always indulgent, always a perfect snapshot of the Valley, its a wine that has symbolized Napa Cabernet for five decades nowand to understand why, you dont have to take a trip back in time and imagine what Napa was like when Silver Oak first made its name: All you have to do is take one sip right now.

Silver Oaks 96-point 2017 Napa Cabernet is everything you want Silver Oak to be. Deep ruby, showing bold aromas of blackberry, blueberry, coconut, espresso, and toasted vanilla bean, its opulent yet perfectly poised on the palate, with a flawless balance of supple tannins and refreshing acidity.

Silver Oak has helped drive American interest in fine wine since the 1970sa fact that can explain their ascent but doesnt scratch the surface of what has kept them at the top for nearly 50 years. In fact, their impeccable quality seems to be on cruise control only because of a restless desire to improve.

The teams replanting regimen stretches a quarter-century into the future, and in 2015 they acquired their own cooperage in Higbee, Missouri. That means every drop of Silver Oak Cabernet is aged in an American oak barrel thats been in their control since it was raw lumber.

Now, after two years in their custom-made barrels and another three years in bottle, the wine is drinking beautifully, hitting all the gorgeous notes that we have come to expect from Silver Oak.

What Kind Of Wine Is Korbel Sweet Ros

Korbel Sweet Rosé is a sparkling wine made from a careful combination of red and white grapes such as Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gamay, Chenin Blanc, and Zinfandel. If youre not familiar with Korbel, this winery grows all of the above varieties along with Sangiovese and Syrah in their vineyards. The Korbel Sweet Rosé opens with subtle aromas of melon, green apple, and berriesa fascinating mix. It also has a delicate vanilla flavor and a reasonably tart and oaky finish

The wide variety of grapes used in the Korbel Sweet Rosé blend lends the wine a beautiful pink color. It is almost too pretty to drink! By sparkling wine standards, the Korbel Sweet Rosé has a generous fizz and effervescence, a refreshing citrusy aftertaste, and just a bit of a punch from the acidity. I liked that it wasnt bone-dry and that it was smooth and not overly buttery.

Silver Oak 2017 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

New vintage of Silver Oak 2017 Napa Valley Cabernet now available.

96 Points Sames Suckling:This is a big upgrade in finesse and clarity to such a popular, premium cabernet from Napa. It shows lots of blackberry, tar, cedar and oak-tree aromas that follow through to a full yet toned palate of fine, integrated tannins and a vivid finish. Owner David Duncan explained that the American oak they use in the wine for aging now comes 100% from their own barrel-making facilities, which tones down the vanilla character in the wine. Really impressive and delicious. Its a joy to drink now, but can age. Drink or hold.

The Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is more limited in availability than the Alexander Valley. Production is the largest yet for the Silver Oak 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa . Full-bodied, chewy, and muscular with an inky dark ruby/plum color, and hints of wood smoke, tobacco, cinnamon, espresso roast, and herbs, this dense, chewy, lavishly oaked wine should drink well for 10-12 years.

The Korbel Brand History

A Czechered History

It started with the efforts of three Czech brothers, a cigar maker, a metallurgist, and a forger who dreamt of making cigar boxes in San Francisco. A booming business brought forth the need to source timber, and they turned to Sonoma Countys Russian River Valley.

It took a downturn in the building industry for the Korbel brothers to repurpose their land for agriculture. Grapes followed, and soon after, the winery along with a champagne master from Prague, and the rest, they say, is history.

The Prohibition Attack

Though the Korbel brothers started the company, they didnt survive prohibition. The next generation picked Adolf Heck, a third-generation winemaker, to buy the brand.

Originally from Alsace Loraine, Adolfs father brought the family to the US and set up a winery. However, prohibition ended that dream. Adolf went on a challenging adventure where he continuously proved himself a success- like re-establishing the Cooks brand, leading the Swiss Colony into a new era marked with their dominance of the American wine market.

Creation of a Signature Champagne

After studying Enology in Germany, he dreamt of creating his signature champagne that would be less European and, more American. When he bought the Kobel estate, he retained the name but modernized the winemaking and bottling process. It has been the best-selling premium sparkling wine on the market since its inception.

Lets go to the left bank of the Gironde River for the most famous expression of cabernet sauvignon on the planet! says Matthew Kaner, host and producer for SOMM TV and the 2013 Food & Wine Sommelier of the Year. Indeed, its hard to imagine a better standard-bearer of old-school cabernet sauvignon than the region of Pauillac, home to some of the most legendary and storied red wine producers in Bordeauxand one producer crafting their cab-dominant blends in a consistently traditional fashion is Château Lynch-Bages.

I love this style of cabernet for having a gentle ripeness of fruit, while also capturing the terroir so well, says Kaner. As Château Lynch-Bages ages, it gains an incredible peatiness, kind of like Islay Scotch! I love it so much.

Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Cabernet Sauvignon Casks90 Proof

Please enjoy our IW Harper Cabernet Cask Reserve Bourbon Review!

I.W. Harper Bourbon History

IW Harper whiskey was first produced by the Bernheim Brothers Distillery back in the late 1870s. You may be familiar with the name Bernheim. Theres the Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, KY, where Heaven Hill currently produces its whiskeys, Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest and Bernheim Original Wheat Whiskey, also produced by Heaven Hill. So who was this Bernheim?

Who was this I.W. Bernheim?

Well, Isaac Wolfe Bernheim was a German-Jewish immigrant who first arrived in the US back in 1867. He was not a distiller at the time. He eventually found work as a bookkeeper either for two distillers or a wholesale liquor company, depending on which source you believe. Eventually, after earning enough money, he brought his brother to the US and the two started a distillery of their own, called Bernheim Bros. They eventually started blending whiskey and released a brand of their own.

Whats with the I.W. Harper name?

So why is this brand called I.W. Harper and not I.W. Bernheim? Well, because of the social climate and prejudices at that time, the Bernheim Brothers felt that it was best to have an American sounding name. So I.W. Harper was born.

The new show at Richmond Hill in Geneseo the family-friendly comedy Leaving Iowa is definitely a mixed bag, in good and not so good ways.

Mother Nature made a memorable impression on the 2017 vintage. In January, we welcomed epic winter rains that brought an end to the enduring five-year drought. The generous precipitation filled our water tables and woke up the vines. After an average bud break, prolific shoot and vegetation growth early in the season required close observation and much weed control and leafing to open the dense canopies. Bloom proceeded at a steady pace and set us up for a healthy crop size. In June and July, three extended heat events tested our vineyard team and culminated with high temperatures around Labor Day.

Silver Oak Napa Valley

Korbel Brut Rose California Champagne.

Silver Oak was started in 1972 with a simple driving philosophy to focus production on only one varietal, Cabernet Sauvignon. Whats more, they resolved to create a wine with a style all its own: not another hard, tannic red wine requiring years of aging to enjoy, but a wine of fully developed flavors and a velvety soft texture on the day it is released for sale.

Silver Oak produces Cabernet Sauvignon from two appellations. Their Napa Valley derives its fruit from both owned and contracted vineyards, and is produced entirely at their Oakville winery. Beginning in 1994, small amounts of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot have been included in their Napa blend to add complexity and softness.

Silver Oak also produces stellar Cabernet from their Alexander Valley vineyards. A critical reason for the success of this wine, and every wine they make, has always been that they create the final blend before aging it in American oak barrels and then bottles. Over the course of four-and-a-half years, the wines flavors, aromas, and textures have an opportunity to meld with one another and the woods delicate qualities to create the kind of graceful cohesion found only in the worlds most elegant wines.
