Black olive, elderberry extract, loamy soil and charred nut aromas show on the nose of this reserve bottling. A charred cocoa-nib, espresso-bean and coconut-husk flavor flows through the palate, which is wrapped in expertly focused tannins. Matt Kettmann

Napa Valley and Paso Robles are renowned for the bold reds of Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel, as well as the scenic wine route which offers unique experiences to wine lovers. Daou Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles

The DAOU Reserve is a shining example of Pasos ability to deliver world-class Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose is classic cab, with dark chocolate, blackberries and cured meats. The silky palate is an explosion of fresh, dark berry fruit with hints of toasty oak, graphite and lingering notes of exotic spices on the long finish.

Where In California Is The Wine Country

The Californian wine country is in the North San Francisco Bay area, with over 800 wineries located all along this scenic route. The Bay area encompasses some of the world’s most famous wine regions, including Napa Valley and Sonoma.

The success of these famous regions within the Bay area is largely to do with the sound soil composition and ideal climatic conditions. Each region is fortunate to have a wide range of temperatures and soil types, allowing the brilliant variety of grapes to thrive here.

Cured meat aromas meet with dark fruit and tarry minerality on the nose of this bottling. The palate blossoms a bit more, with dried blach cherry, soy and tobacco leaf flavors, as well as that charcoal and roasted meat core. Matt Kettmann

Cedar oil, charred cherry and tobacco aromas make for a dense, heady nose in this bottling. Chiseled tannins frame the roasted black cherry, cola and coffee flavors on the rich and hearty palate, which is powerful while still maintaining structure. Matt Kettmann

What Is The Famous Wine Region Featured In The Movie Sideways

Josh Cellars Wine Review

Thats Santa Barbara.

The greatest attribute of Sideways is that it promoted Pinot Noir, which became very popular because of the movie.

The region of Santa Barbara offers a great variety of unique tasting options with over 120 different wineries to choose from. This region is off-the-beaten-track, but should not be underestimated. Sideways drew much-needed attention to this region and all that it has to offer.

Review: Wines Of Daou 2020 Releases

Daou is a blue-chip family operation in Californias Paso Robles. This family operation, founded by sons of Lebanese refugees, produces a wide range of wines, but its its cabernet sauvignons that it hangs its hat on. Its the chalky calcareous soil here, found virtually nowhere else in California, that winemaker Daniel Daou, leading a group of media through an online tasting, said was the real secret sauce for the winery.

We tasted through three recent expressions of wines from Daous Adelaida District estate in Paso. Thoughts follow.

2019 Daou Sauvignon Blanc Adelaida District A beautiful wine, crisp with lemons, grapefruit, and green apple notes but also lots of mineral elements, driven by that calcareous Paso Robles soil. Lightly sweet and full of fruit on the finish, its the structure and somewhat creamy body that really took me somewhere special. A- / $50

2018 Daou Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Adelaida District 100% cabernet, made with 80% new French oak. This wine hits the palate on the sweet side, and it takes some time to settle down into a groove. In time a more sultry note of macerated blackberry and blueberry emerge, tempered by tannin, licorice, and dark chocolate. The finish veers back toward sweetness, giving it more of a milk chocolate character that comes across as a bit too unctuous. B+ / $85
