Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasnt until the 1970s that this marriage came to light sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stags Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.
Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignons structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soilas a perfect example, Rutherfords famous dust or Stags Leap District‘s tart cherry flavors.

Review: 2016 Black Stallion Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
This 2016 release from Napas Black Stallion Estate Winery is an iconic expression of Napa cabernet, enduringly fruit-forward, exuding heavy notes of currants and dark chocolate amidst a slurry of mixed spices. Lush to the point of opulence, it leans heavily on the fruit, with notes of blueberry and blackberry all chocolate-coated lingering on the finish. Fully expected, but a solid value.
Black Stallion Estate Winery
Black Stallion Estate Winery is named in honor of the historic Silverado Horseman’s equestrian center that once graced the property. The winery showcases the best of Napa Valleys diverse wine growing regions by carefully selecting grapes from an array of vineyards that reflect different Napa Valley terroirs. In some instances it’s a single vineyard block or a single row within a block. We blend the best lots to craft world-class wines, brimming with rich flavors and gracious, mouth filling textures.

Tones of candied cherry, earthy dried herb and pencil shavings highlight the rich core in this powerful wine. A crushed-gravel texture underscores the robust tannins and lasting grip. Virginie Boone

Barrel Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
Description
TASTING NOTES:
Our 2016 Barrel Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon begins with aromas of blackberry jam, nutmeg, and savory spices. Flavors of black current, toffee and baking spices are followed by bold tannins with a long fruit finish.
WINEMAKER NOTES:
Our Barrel Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is primarily sourced from vineyards located in the mountains with valley floor vineyards to round it out. Atlas Peak has rocky and volcanic soil which allows the grapevines to produce concentrated and flavorful grapes. Howell Mountain is especially well suited to growing intensely flavored Cabernet Sauvignon due to the combination of volcanic, iron laden soils and high elevation. The soils are especially lean which naturally limits the vigor of the grapevines, concentrating the flavors contributing to the intensity of the finished wine. The Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from Diamond Mountain contributes black fruit aromas and flavors. The valley floor vineyards bring balance to the wine and adds acidity.
