What Is A Standard Size Bottle Of Champagne

How much is a bottle of Dom Pérignon Champagne? Julien’s Wine School

Champagne often comes in a 750 ml or 25 ounce bottle. When shopping around for a New Years Eve bubbly, the 750 ml size is most likely what you will see. However, there are a few other sizes for champagne, including Mini, Half, Standard, and then even larger sizes.

The Mini has 200 ml and is ¼ the size of the standard bottle. It equates to a single full glass of champagne.

The Demi or Half champagne bottle holds 375 ml and is ½ the regular size. You can pour two full glasses of champagne.

Larger bottles like the Magnum are 1.5 liters or 12 glasses. The Jeroboam is 3 liters or 24 glasses. Ever hear of a Methuselah-sized champagne bottle? A single Methuselah holds 8 standard bottles of champagne, or about 6 liters or 48 glasses. You may have to shop around to find bottles bigger than the standard 750 ml, however.

Second Skin Ruinart Ros

Founded in 1729, Ruinart is the worlds very first Champagne house, and one that seeks to preserve its legacy in bottle form. While the brand houses its Champagne in a distinct squat bottle that was popular during the 18th century, in effort to adapt to the 21st century and consider the environment, Ruinart has revealed a new, entirely recyclable paper bottle case made from wood fibers . Filled with a non-vintage rosé sparkler approximately one quarter of which is composed of reserve wines from the last two yearsthe bottles delicate exterior color matches the pink wine inside, while its textured exterior mimics the underground caves in which its rested.

A Brief History Of Moet & Chandon

Back in 1743, Claude Moet established the brand Moet et Cie or Moet & Co.. Claude, the first man in Champagne to exclusively produce sparkling wine, began shipping his product to Paris.

During its early years, Moet was the drink of nobles and aristocrats. Later, in 1833, Moet & Co was renamed Moet & Chandon following the joining of new members to the company.

In 1840, the concept of vintage champagne was introduced. Moet went with the concept and began marketing their first vintage in 1842. A couple of years after this, in the 1860s, Moet introduced their best-selling brand, Brut Imperial.

Growing in popularity, Moet joined forces and merged with Hennessy Cognac, as well as Louis Vuitton, in 1971 and 1987, respectively. These combined brands quickly became the biggest luxury group in the world.

The beverage itself is made from a divine selection of grapes. There are three types of grapes used, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, and Pinot Noir.

The variety of grapes is picked from a number of vineyards situated in the five main areas of Champagne. Blending this elegant drink with a selection of the best grapes is the key to its success.

Moets Brut Imperial appears with a lemon-yellow color. Hints of gold hues and amber tones add to the overall elegant look of this champagne. This best-seller also brandishes a deep and rather complex aroma.

The Latest Prices Of Moet & Chandon Champagne In Nigeria.

The shipwrecked Champagne earned its price by historical association and extreme rarity, but Cristal Brut 1990 Millennium Cuvee Methuselah scored it through sheer size, which is the equivalent of six liters or eight normal bottles in this case. Theres also the factor of rarity, as this particular Champagne is known to have only 2,000 similar bottles produced.

Why The Price Difference

Champagne is clearly one of the more volatile priced wine groups. So why are proseccos, sparkling wines, and true Champagnes so different in pricing?

Primarily, the price for true Champagne is higher because of its exclusivity. Champagne is made in a specific region using a particular set of grape varietals.

Secondly, the process is a bit more intensive for Champagne makers. Carbonation is required during the bottling process to produce the sparkling effect. This step is labor-intensive and a bit more expensive.

Dom Prignon Vintage 2010

Dom Pérignon is one of the most famous names in luxury Champagnes. It is special because if theres a weak year for grapes, the company will skip production. This makes Dom Pérignon a vintage champagne.

Dom Pérignon has been mentioned in many popular songs from Taylor Swift to Billy Joel. At around $899, it has a price tag to match the reputation. This is definitely one for a very special occasion. It carries hints of vanilla, cream, and some fruit flavors.

Where Is The Really Expensive Stuff

You may have noted in our Moët & Chandon prices list that the prices range from $51 $64. This is quite the diversion from many higher-end champagne brands. One reason for this is certainly its segmentation of the Dom Perignon brand.

Dom Perignon represents the luxury, or prestige champagne. While produced by the Moët & Chandon Champagne House, it is considered a separate group of products and thus is missing from the price list. Here are a couple average Dom Perignon prices for comparison:

  • Dom Perignon 2009 around $150
  • Dom Perignon P2 Brut 2000 around $400

As you can see, Dom Perignon provides the higher price point missing from the standard list of Moët & Chandon champagnes. A popular champagne that matches this high-end feel is known as Cristal by the Louis Roederer family of champagnes. Cristal and Cristal Rose are around $250 and $500.

Louis Roederer Cristal Ros

Its 2013 distillation carries a price tag of about $750. Steep, yes, but something that you might be willing to pay if youre in the mood for splurging on alcohol. Experts say this bottle tastes crisply acidic with a rich honey flavor.

How Many Bottles Of Champagne Do I Need

Knowing how many ounces are in a champagne bottle is going to benefit you when it comes time to plan a party. Consider how many people are coming to the event. Some of those people will have a single serving of champagne while others may have 2 or 5. If you plan on serving champagne as a toast, a single flute of champagne is enough for every guest. Also, you only fill a third of the flute for a toast.

In this case, a single bottle of champagne serves about 10 guests.

Planning on serving way more than one flute of champagne per person? Figure out how many champagne bottles you need this way: Take your number of guests and divide that by 6 or 7 servings of champagne per bottle. You will see that you need between 25-30 bottles of champagne. If you know guests will be drinking a lot, tack on 5-10 extra bottles.

The Top 10 Most Expensive Champagne Bottles In 2021

Expensive champagne has been synonymous with the drink of high class society. It is seen being enjoyed by A-list celebrities, it is saved and served for special occasions, and in general it has been used as a sort of high-status symbol.

While champagne bottles can come in all forms, sizes, and price tags, few will ever reach the heights of these 10 most expensive champagnes in the world:

Starting off the list of most expensive champagnes in the world we have an unnamed bottle found in 2010 at the bottom of the Baltic Sea. The case of 11 bottles was sold at auction for $156,000 in 2012, breaking down to about $14,182 per bottle. Thought to have been under water for more approximately 200 years, the contents seem to have been preserved quite well. Nevertheless, a bottle with such a story is more likely to be celebrated as a display item rather than something that will be brought to a special occasion.

What About Other Wine Bottles

While champagne often comes in a 750 ml bottle, you may see other kinds of sparkling or dessert wines in different sizes. For instance, many liquor stores sell dessert wines in demi bottles, which are 375 ml or 12.6 oz. This size was created to make dessert wines more affordable.

Although you might be tempted to purchase bigger bottles of sparkling wine or champagne, given the chance, taste test with demi or mini bottles! That way, if you dont like the flavor, the whole bottle isnt wasted.

You can also spot many wines, including red, white, rose, and sparkling, in 1500 ml bottles. That is double the size of the standard champagne bottle. If you are planning for a special occasion, it may be smart to keep your eyes open for larger than average bottles of sparkling wine. While it might be a different kind of champagne, such as prosecco or brut, it is much more affordable.
