Alo Yoga To Take Over Banana Republic Space

Supply chain shortage hits local wine, liquor store

Another fallen retail icon. As first reported by UrbanTurf, Yoga clothing and accessory company Alo Yoga appears to be taking over the prime Georgetown retail space currently occupied by Banana Republic at the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and M Street NW. Plans filed with D.C.s Historic Preservation Review Board outline a series of changes to the exterior of 3200 M Street NW to make way for the new tenant. It is uncertain when Banana Republic will close.

New kids on the block. Georgetown Wine & Spirits at 2701 P St. NW opened in 1934 as a neighborhood market and has been run as a liquor store since the 1950s has a new owner. Nate Smith, a consultant whose family has been in the hospitality industries, purchased the business for about $400,000 from the Kapoor family. The property is owned by Bob Enzel, native Washingtonian and Georgetowner, who lives nearby, and also owns the former 7-Eleven building. Smith lives near the Navy Yard, while his wife, Sana Bokil, will continue to work as a cancer specialist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. Store manager Pascal Valadier will remain.

V.P. is a great boss. He’s funny and easy to get along with. He’ll work with your schedule and try to make everyone happy. If you stick around long enough you’ll get to do wine/liquor tastings. You also get discounts on the products.

Sometimes you’ll have to do heavy lifting. The work is really repetitive and can get boring.

A lot of down time., so much you can really arrange the store like your own. Extra time to try products., and expand your pallet. Great clients, it takes a certain kind of person to work here.

Cons

No benefits at all no medical, Health,401k, no paid vacation. You get zero benifits and work 52 hours a week. No overtime, just a industry low salary. Most stores in the area pay 15k more a year and you work less hours. Plus the other stores offer benifits.

Georgetown Liquor Store Moves Location Offers Discounts

Towne Wine and Liquor has relocated to a new storefront because of its inability to pay the rent at its former location.

The popular liquor store among students and members of the Georgetown University community, affectionately known as Towne, moved one block north to 1438 Wisconsin Ave. While Towne began the moving process Oct. 18, the new store location will not open to customers until Nov. 4.

According to Joey Chen, owner of Towne Wine and Liquor, the rent in the new lease for the former storefront was too high, so relocation was necessary in order to stay in business.

The landlord wanted to increase the rent, and at that time, because of COVID, school was closed, everybody was at home and we were closed for three months, and my rent was almost ending, Chen said in a phone interview with The Hoya. They wanted to sign a new lease to increase the rent to $10,000, and we cant afford it, so we just found a new place.

Alex Chan , assistant store manager at Towne Wine and Liquor who is responsible for running the stores social media platforms, announced the upcoming move in an Oct. 20 Instagram post.

The new location will have more space than Townes former location, which will allow for more customers and inventory in the store and a more efficient payment system. The changes will help make Towne more accessible, according to Chan.

Townes new location will represent a new era for the liquor store, according to Chan.
