What Is The Famous Wine Region Featured In The Movie Sideways

Thats Santa Barbara.

The greatest attribute of Sideways is that it promoted Pinot Noir, which became very popular because of the movie.

The region of Santa Barbara offers a great variety of unique tasting options with over 120 different wineries to choose from. This region is off-the-beaten-track, but should not be underestimated. Sideways drew much-needed attention to this region and all that it has to offer.

Truly appreciable this New World Cabernet, as a hallmark of Californians it is very fruity both on the nose and on the palate, full-bodied and generous.

CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2020 – BREAD AND BUTTER is a joy of flavours and aromas. Intense with a silky body and not excessive, it releases a prevalent and fantastic vanilla aroma in the mouth.

I am a fan of this wine. It is my favourite in terms of quality to price ratio. The vanilla aromas are indeed powerful and even draw towards liquorice. No acidity at all.

Intense ruby red. The nose expresses itself with hints of red fruits, notes of vanilla and at times spicy notes and hints of tobacco. On the palate it is very warm, with good acidity. Persistent. Overall an excellent wine.

This red wine is our favourite. The new vintage is even more delicious than the previous years. All our friends agree.

It’s a well-made wine, pleasant to drink right away. It has the buttery side of the white Chardonnay that I like. It does not have the complexity of a French vin de garde which improves with time.

Nice discovery for us! A very round palate, very fruity, but with a mix of vanilla and chocolate, a very pleasant and well-balanced result!

This is a powerful yet silky Cabernet thanks to a superb maturity, its length in the mouth announces a superb potential. Opening it a few hours in advance will bring out its aromatic palette.

Where In California Is The Wine Country

The Californian wine country is in the North San Francisco Bay area, with over 800 wineries located all along this scenic route. The Bay area encompasses some of the world’s most famous wine regions, including Napa Valley and Sonoma.

The success of these famous regions within the Bay area is largely to do with the sound soil composition and ideal climatic conditions. Each region is fortunate to have a wide range of temperatures and soil types, allowing the brilliant variety of grapes to thrive here.

Bread & Butter Cabernet Sauvignon 750ML

The Cabernet Sauvignon actually poured a little lighter than I expected, though were still not talking Poulsard here. The nose is heady, with ripe cassis and blackcurrant*, blueberry, vanilla and toast oak notes. The palate is rich and velvety, with blackcurrant and cocoa to the fore. Tannins are very restrained indeed this is no Pauillac facsimile. The finish has some residual sugar I couldnt find a tech sheet but I noted that Decanter included it within the Medium Dry, 5 18 g/L category. The sugar comes through as richness more than sweetness, especially to the untrained palate. This is the type of red than many drinkers go mad for at the moment its not a wine I would choose for myself unless I was eating barbecue with a sweet marinade, and then it would be quaffed with extreme prejudice.

Which Wine Regions Are In California

California is a vast region that consists of several smaller wine-producing areas. Although Napa Valley and Sonoma are what California is most known for, the states other regions produce equally outstanding wines.

Napa Valley and Paso Robles are renowned for the bold reds of Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel, as well as the scenic wine route which offers unique experiences to wine lovers. On the contrary, Santa Barbara and The Russian River Valley, with conditions more suited to delicate grapes, produce outstanding expressions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Each of these regions offers a unique take on the wines of California allowing for a greater expression and experience of what the Golden State can truly offer.

Bread & Butter California Chardonnay 2019

As its counterpart below, this is a California wine rather than any smaller AVA, so the grapes were probably sourced from several regions and blended together.

It pours a light gold in the glass, giving an indication that this is going to be a dessert wine , an aged wine or an oaked wine And so the nose reveals: layers of vanilla and buttery toast with hints of lemon and orange. The palate is exactly how you would expect a California Chardonnay to be: lemon curd, pineapple cubes and lots of creamy texture, though not the full on butter churn experience.

While its far from subtle, I really like this wine. At this price point many Chardonnays are unoaked for both cost and stylistic reasons, and those that have seen some oak can be disjointed or seem confected. And Im not alone I have heard several wine drinkers make a beeline for this wine and declare it their new favourite.

California Red Wine Review, three Cabernet Sauvignon wines tasted

Full-bodied

Full-bodied

  • INGREDIENTS DECLARED BY THE PRODUCERContains sulphites
  • Taste

Luscious and jammy reds are medium-bodied, full-bodied or very full-bodied wines that combine ripe berry notes and pronounced jammy flavours.

You can discern notes of cherry jam, wild berry jam or dark plum in these wines. Ripe tannins add the necessary structure for pairing the wines with food.

    Tips for use

Wines with rich flavours and aromas are a good choice when serving meat dishes.

Try with BBQ-marinated pork ribs, beef and vegetable skewers or T bone steaks.

    How to serve

Red wines are best served slightly below room temperature, at 1618°C. Chilling a bottle from room temperature to the perfect serving temperature takes about half an hour in a fridge.
